I was fortunate enough as a racesafe Marshall to meet Keith several times at BSB and chatting at the Creg during the TT, but just like the effervescent Norma De Bidaph it's sometimes the people in the background who are the greatest characters in racing. R.I.P both ..

Yeah GSX-R 750 the modern rendition of it gets knocked for lack of electronics and gadgets but it's still one of the best balanced performance bikes that can be purchased and in skilled hands is going to run circles around the track or twisty over a lot of these hyped modern bikes. And for people that want a bike that's exhilirating without all of the electronics it's still a nice deal price wise.
It gets to a point where it's like what happened to learning how to actually ride? A GSX-R750 is a beast.

I did all my training on a Honda CB650R, it's a cracking bike, and I loved the howl from its inline-four engine (11:29). I nearly snapped my neck the first time I opened it up, though, and I had to hang on for dear life! 😲

Always fantastic to listen to you and read your MCN et al reviews/thoughts.
I just don't see why sportsbike should decline when all the manufacturers could offer a bike with adjustable footpegs/clip ons. Many bikes (eg S1000R/RR) have cruise and heated grips. All it needs, imo, is the adjustable pegs and clip ons. KTM did it with the RC8 years ago.
I'm an old git and will not give up my S1 RR!
RIP Keith Flint absolutely fabulous person, musician and gave so much to bike sport.

Love the stories about Keith Flint. What amazed me about him chatting to you in the wings is how doing a gig and being a star performer is to those of his kind just like us going to work in the normal world. Breaking off from a few emails to chat about a shared interest with a colleague is not quite the same though!

Thanks for sharing the Keith Flint stories. There seems to be an innate link between music and motorcycles.
And thanks for answering my question. I am beginning to soften to these other engine formats having listened to you and your colleagues explain the rationale. That Guzzi Mondelo has caught my eye and I am trawling the bike shops looking at the triples and stuff with the intention of giving them a try next season. Indeed, if that R9 ever happens, and it is not too small and on the wrist, I would give it garage space. Still, not sure about those parallel twins!?! Keep up the good work and thanks for posting.

Depending on pollution regs, I don't think the I4 will disappear, but the mid capacity will. People are used to, and like the low end torque of the twins, and the liter bikes can provide that. I'dnever had an i4 and I ran into a used gsx-s750, and I thought "last of the line of the bikes that started the modern bike." So I bought it. It's a different way of riding than my duc 821 - but there is a joy to it, and a skill to it. Sadly Suzuki discontinued it - but the liters soldier on. Things do have a habit of going full circle, and Honda has the 650s, so maybe the tiny sport bike won't return, but small capacity I4 screamers may yet re-emerge.

Thank you for this honest video format. When it comes to Superbikes, I think there is a small but loud minority that prefers those bikes to be extreme in every possible way. They have to have high-strung engines, very low clip-ons, hard seats, cramp inducing foot-peg positions. I'd assume that sports bikes 20 years ago were much more comfortable and fun to ride at road speeds. For that reason, the Tuonos and Streetfighters are so popular now. Especially the Tuono, since it has a windscreen at least. There is a market for sports bikes with either a more comfy position and/or straight bars. Naked bikes are nice, but I'd rather ride something sporty with wind protection.

I really thought that you were damning the Honda Hornet with faint praise in that vid. Reviewers aren't the be all and end all. Riders should try bikes out themselves before they buy. Having had lots of bikes, it's very often the little annoyances that start to scream at you and make you buy another one: lousy switches Yam and clocks most. I loved the ergos of the Hornet, the dash (hated the headlight) so will buy one asap next year.

Dear Michael, are there any manufacturers who invite feedback part way through a bikes development?
Have you ever been involved in this?
Have any made adjustments because of this feedback, or after the press have reported on a bike have the manufacturers made changes then?
Dave Moss suspension guy did a survey of new bikes from a variety of manufacturers and tested to see the suspension settings as they left the showroom floor. They could be all over the place. Do you manufacturers have quality control to make sure that these things are set up correctly?

    Questions.
First, thanks for all the great videos.
Have you ever reviewed a yamaha super Tenere 1200? What do you think of it.
I have a 2020 T12 best bike in the world for the money if you ask me. Never anything wrong with them. Had a 2016 GS 1200 but couldn't come to terms with the gearbox and major lack of feel in the front. Also had to change the entire front damper and brakes after 4.5 years, luckily it's under warranty, it's so expensive. Yes, the super tener is heavier and lacks horses, but I still feel like I can still go faster in the corners and accelerate faster on gravel.
    Thanks 😊

I think any bike with non-adjustable suspension is a terrible idea. The rider amounts to 1/4 - 1/3rd the overall weight and the difference in even minor adjustments makes things so much better (or worse). Built to a price be buggered. Same with OEM hoops.

Enjoy reading about the racing, but was wondering if sometime you could talk about the different types of racing and the differences in the motorcycles for each (Moto GP, BSB, WSB, supersport) as it's a bit confusing to me. Also, I've heard you say a couple times that one front fork on a race bike costs more than the entire motorcycle you were testing at the time. Was that an exaggeration or actually true? Thanks.

Hello! I really respect your work and knowledge and like to listen your opinions. But just because the majority of people are overweight or fat and don't do exercise and are not flexible that do not make that normal! Superbikes are made to go fast and be the absolute best doing that! They are not for the majority. They are for those capable of doing that! The Fireblade, RSV4 and GSX R1000 are not small. Ergonomically, they are perfect for doing what they are meant to. The S1000RR is a great bike but has 2 major problems, the suspension and ergonomics.. the rear sets and handlebars are placed for the "majority" (overweight and not flexible people) but that doesn't make it good or normal. To go fast properly and safely we must change and make it more like the Fireblade, RSV4 and GSX R. I know because I own and ride them all..

Have to comment on this "death of the sportbike" thing---- outside of Yamaha killing the R6 and the Triumph Daytona going away--- all makes are still putting out liter bikes that keep getting more and more potent and 3 of the big 4 still have a quality 600 out. I see sport bikes everywhere in CA, loads of 600s ridden new ones and older ones.
Then regarding the twins -- RS660 is almost on performance par with a classic 600 and it's handling and looks are amazing and Yamaha will release the R9 which will be a proper sport bike just with practical elements.... the race replica 1000s still sell like crazy, you still have the 600s avail and you have a new crop of hyper nakeds, practical sport bikes like RS660 and even gentleman's sport bike the Triumph Speed Triple RR....
Fair to say in bikes capable of tearing up track and twisty that there's more 4cyl bikes than 3s and 2s? Where does this perception come from that sport bikes are dying LOL
