Twobarpsi thanks bro. I'm a simple guy. If I want speed and exhilaration again, I'll get another motorcycle. A miata is all I need for driver engagement and satisfaction.
Twobarpsi you should let people desire whatever they want... Some may want a Lotus, some may want a S2000, some may want a Miata, some may want a 370Z, some may want a Porsche, some may want a Jeep. What they do with their money isn't really our problem unless they buy an SUV, and contribute to the SUV/crossover trend...

As someone who owned a 2010 GT (Copper Red Mica on Beige - Beige top), I can attest that the smiles Sofyan demonstrates at WOT are genuine. S2kTi yeah I thought of that but I could get really good deals right now on 2017/2018 models. Will 21 more horsepower really be worth the wait and thousands more $$$$?
Michael Brashier haha you're right, probably not. I'm a sucker for higher redlines though.. I'll probably get one in 2020 myself. Either way, can't go wrong!
@@Tware8100 mine was absolutely perfect until it got t-boned by a guy with no insurance. Now it's just been falling apart ever since. Hoping to get an nd soon!
Nah. I'm 6' 2" and i'm fine. Granted, I don't think anyone over my height would be comfortable, but I don't mind the cockpit feel of it. I've never driven car where I feel so connected to anything. Would love to get into a Lotus Esprit though!
My wife has a 2018 club. I'm 5'11 and have driven it on a 400 mile day on back roads. I had no issues with room. The passenger seat is a little more close but not bad if you remove the cup holder. On real tight mountain roads it is in its element.
To those unhappy with the power and speed, remember this car is a driving roadster. It's not all about the speed - in fact too much speed can be a bad thing in this case
Good review! I've been an 2008 NC MX-5 driver for over 2 years now and my car still has the ability to make me giggle as well. It's fun to watch your enthusiasm and I'm so glad that Mazda is still making such a great and affordable driver's car. Keep up the good work!
i recently drove the RF model at my mazda dealer, and i was quite impressed! This thing drives like a fuel efficient mazda RX8 ! If you guys like the RX8, then you will definitely love this car:)
God damn I want one so bad. As someone with no kids or dogs, I can easily daily this.. I've had 2 NA's and now an NB2 but this is gonna be next no doubt. Great review can't wait for the 2019
i just love These cars. i had a 1995 NA, a 1998 NB and now a 2001 NBFL. for me it is the most fun car ever. and you're just saying it: People who don't like miatas have never driven them
Nope, the 2018 Miata is not the answer, the 2019 model year, however... Wait till next year when you get a 26 hp + bump and a redline increase to 7500 rpm... Plus some other goodies like a telescopic steering wheel and others upgrades as well...

Why is it every a bad thing for a company to give you more for your money? Especially if that company's motto is zoom-zoom.
intelmike181 that's the problem, people want a 200 + hp mx5 with all these , telescoping things and back up camera that etc for less than 25k it's fucking ridiculous. No , if people want the zoom zoom Mazda speed bla bla edition it should cost as much as a Civic type r
As much as I appreciate the sharper performance of this Club version, I'd probably still choose the GT for the added comfort and tech features. I agree that both trims should be available with the same tech features. It always bothers me with brands force the buyer to make compromises that they shouldn't have to make, especially on their flagship car.
Sam s2000 isn't coming back. Honda already confirmed that a few months ago.. they said the S needs to stay where it's at in its place in time yada yada .. they claimed it was due to safety regulations and lack of demand.
I agree, that dark cherry top looks amazing on this color! I still want to own one of these after owning two NB Miata's in the past, such great little cars! Nice review!
Pricing is getting way out of line in my opinion. For fun my wife and I bought a low mile 2001 NB LS and that car is a great value. Simple simple simple, light weight, just powerful enough. I have no doubt the ND Club is fun, but pricing is too high for what it is. Great review, and keep up the great work. What a way to make a living!
Knowing that the 2019 is getting a 26 HP bump, is makes me wonder if all the new 2018's at the Mazda dealers are "bolted to the showroom floor" as the salesmen say. I would need to see HEAVY discounting on the MSRP to pull the trigger on a 2018.
Pretty sure sports car enthusiasts all hate revving engines. Easing the clutch out at idle and puttering around at 1100 rpm is my favorite thing to do. Guess I need to buy a used school bus instead.
Tucsonan, what are you even talking about. Miatas are LITERALLY the car you drive to redline and only shift then. Literally, if ANY car gets to claim that, it's the Mazda Miata. You drive these cars to redline. And if you're just puttering around you only drive them to 5-6K before shifting up.
Both hands on the wheel, man! Dude, what a great review. I'm pretty much sold as this being my next daily driver, and you DDing yours is my justification!
If they released a “rally” edition Mazda with a turbo and awd. They would sell like crazy. They would be the kings of the world. I don’t know what the bell Mazda is thinking because I really want a rwd sports car but with the current shitty snow weather I need a awd car.
By 2022 the nannies at the NHTSA will likely require Nomex suits, helmets, and asbestos underwear for the entire family before you can sit in the driveway and listen to the radio. "If it saves just one life blah blah blah . . . "
Depends if you like old skool British sports car styling or modern Japanese styling, the mx5/miata based around those classic brit cars such as the Spitfire. I dig those early models cos they provide that indiscernible something that these simply don't. These modern cars just kinda line up and look the same as all the others, despite its good looks they are too contemporary
Eric Chang agree, lot of people are still stuck in old ways and say new cars sucks and this and that. As I get older, my back can not take most of older cars I used to enjoy. I always buy newer car for my wife, and learned to enjoy newer tech.
I have the 2016 club.. (rear diff) mine gets amazing mileage.. Your vids helped me buy it.. 158 ish HP is enough for a 2300 lb car... 280 would be fine.. My other car is an accord stick 287 HP... and both feel equal fast.
IMO, I don't see the point in a back up camera unless your towing something or have a problem turning your head. Other then that it's just laziness. Great review as always LOVE these cars!
I do like this car a lot however it's just too small for my taste. Tried it out at the auto show and I just wanted more room. My feet wanted to stretch more so yeah. Other than that, really great car! Glad you enjoyed it Sofyan!
Todd Medium Wellington III I agree. This is so small that it’s like a toy car. And with top down , you can see everything around. A camera makes no sense.
I think you miss the point which is that so many cars now have a back up camera that it's expected. If you can get a cheap Honda with a back up camera you should get one in the Miata.
Lol all the "I can turn my head" comments, you're missing the point. Blind spot, lane departure, back up camera, all means lower monthly insurance bro.
Great review - thanks. I have been thinking that the Club would be the one to go for, but your review confirms it. Also, it seems that the Brembo/BBS/Recaro option is well worth the money, also. Under 6 seconds to 60 is great, more importantly it is rev happy (higher redline for '19, too). I'm sold....
Its a fantastic car, I've had my 2016 GT since Feb of this year. I drive it a lot traveling for work and I average 39.5 MPG on the gauge. If you do some searching you can find a great deal on a used one with low miles. My GT only had 3,700 miles and it was less than $23K as a certified pre-owned car which gave me extra warranty. The only issue I've had has been the headliner falling down a couple of times, currently its fixed but waiting on additional clips from Mazda.
Best fun affordable car mx5ND yeah that's what I've noticed. I'm surprised how much they've depreciated already even with sub 10k miles on many of them. It'll be interesting to see if the deal gets even sweeter when the 2019 update hits the streets.
You really make me want this car! I've been looking at Caymans, GT86, TT and 370z. However, I like driving cars that aren't too powerful fast and really pushing them and driving them hard. I like it when they're loud, small and nimble, throwing them about around corners and really having fun. I'll have to test drive one or perhaps the RF as it could be what i'm looking for. Should be cheap on maintenance and fuel too. The 981, TT and 370z, although powerful feel like are pretty big cars. For me the TT has the least sporty vibe kind of like a BMW 4. I drive a lot down tight twisty country lanes.
Well i've only ever had pretty small low powered cars so i'm kind of used to them - 106, Fiesta, Fiesta Classic, Suzuki Alto. I like to push the engine and use momentum to get the best out of them. I think i'm the kind that feels more excitement driving a slow car fast. You really can't drive a fast car fast and get the best out of i ton the road very often. I do like the look of big aggressive cars though but the ND has really grown on me.
Mazdas are not my favorite, and two seat roadsters are not practical for me, but I really like this car! The styling, performance, and especially the Recaro seats, BBS wheels and Brembos. I prefer an automatic, but I believe for a car like this, or a Honda Civic Si, the standard is a must. Like you said, this is a toy car, or daily driver if it's practical for your lifestyle. You can get a cheap, used truck or SUV if you need it to carry stuff. Great review, as always. I like how reviewers like you and Matt Maran are overjoyed by the performance of certain vehicles. I live in Hawai'i, and I wouldn't mind having this to drive around the island and take in all our nice ocean views.
I confirm. I am 186-7 cm or 6ft1 and I barely fit in the car. My head is touching the roof and the metal construction on the left side of the roof. Also the seat is not far enough for me and yeah, the steering wheel is too far away. But it was the only car that I drove and put an immediate smile on my face. I wish they made it a bit bigger to be able to fit at least someone who is 185-188 cm tall.
The seat is not really the problem. I am touching the metal construction of the roof. If someone hits me, im a goner. Im just too big for the car. I am really sad about that... :/
Get yourself an NA. I'm nearly 6'2" and I fit fine. I have just as much fun as my mates who have NDs... and for a fraction of the price ! I find even the NB is more cramped than my NA.
This is probably an odd statement to make here (more of a suggestion though) but I was thinking you should probably use a drone for your glamour shots. It makes it look smoother and minimizes seeing the cameraman walkaround reflections of the vehicle.
I wish you would review a base model Sport ND Miata. Nobody ever reviews them, and because of that everyone seems to think that to get a Miata you must spend over $30k. For the money a Sport model is an amazing car and way cheaper than the club and GT trims.
I tried the ND. It comes closest to recapturing the feel of the NA but for me still has too many useless gadgets. I also found it a little cramped for me - I'm 6'2. So all in all I was glad to get back into my 1995 1.8iS NA which gives me just as big a smile as your ND does for you - but at a fraction of the price.
Well for Canada all new cars are REQUIRED to have a reversing camera as of May 2018 per new Transport Canada regulations. Mazda with this model is one of the last models to currently NOT have one in the Canadian market, regardless of class. Hell nearly every 2018 bare bones subcompact model car for sale in Canada currently have a reversing camera. So pretty sure if they want to keep selling them in Canada, the 2019 model MUST have one.
Never driven the new one so I can't really make a quote about the noise. I think it would be cool though if they brought back the hardtop from the na Miata. Which is what I have. I use the convertible, but almost every day I'd rather have the hardtop on because it's quieter. Sure it's a pain when you want to take it off because you have to be at home to put it in a safe place, but it is so much nicer in the winter having a hard top. At least give an option where you can buy a hardtop extra.
custommotor Funny that. I have a hardtop with my NA. I put it on in December when we had a cold snap in Europe but found it very boomy and noisy. It was off again and back in store by the end of February. I was glad to see the back of it.
Yep, it’s still the answer. Now that being said I had to add the OEM backup camera myself but that was pretty easy. Waiting now for CarPlay and Android Auto release. However man this thing is FUN to drive, thrash the gear box and rev the crap out of it, it comes back for more and leaves you giggling like a nutcase.

Even a turbo or supercharger on low boost is more than enough for most people
No competition IMO. I have mine custom dyno tuned, and some day will put the BBR Turbo Charger in it and will be pushing 210-220hp. #beastmode
2019 is supposed to get the engine out of the Mazda 3 with 180-185.

By 2022 the nannies at the NHTSA will likely require Nomex suits, helmets, and asbestos underwear for the entire family before you can sit in the driveway and listen to the radio. "If it saves just one life blah blah blah . . . "
asbestos underwear LMFAO
Depends if you like old skool British sports car styling or modern Japanese styling, the mx5/miata based around those classic brit cars such as the Spitfire. I dig those early models cos they provide that indiscernible something that these simply don't. These modern cars just kinda line up and look the same as all the others, despite its good looks they are too contemporary
As I get older, I want the tech and comfort features.
Eric Chang agree, lot of people are still stuck in old ways and say new cars sucks and this and that. As I get older, my back can not take most of older cars I used to enjoy. I always buy newer car for my wife, and learned to enjoy newer tech.
I really think that backup cameras and cruise control are great
Just bought this one two weeks ago in that color and trim. Loving it!
Get any discounts?
No discounts (officially), but I did some tough negotiating. Knocked $4500 off MSRP.
Great review. I'm actually waiting for a Sentra Nismo review, just to see what he would say about it.
every time I see you drive one of these, I feel an urge to experience driving one... one of these days...
Edgar Mertins Pappa I have a 16gt my first sport car and first stick shift car . It's so fun at 3-4500 rpm in the corners
Both of my favorite colors right there. Leaning gray w black top.
Dude, you are best advertisement for miata :D Shame I am 6 feet 3 inches, and having real trouble fitting in this car properly :D
Double JJ sadly, it’s not for all. I think it’s too small for people 6’ and taller .
Unfortunately yeah, this has been a problem since 1989 really. BUT at 5' 11" i fit nicely enough :)
No problem for me at 6'1" in my 1995 NA
shadowkeeper0 hmm, if that's true I'll consider getting one
if you need a back up camera for this specific car. My advise would be to work on your driving/parking skills.
Todd Medium Wellington III I agree. This is so small that it’s like a toy car. And with top down , you can see everything around. A camera makes no sense.
Agreed. I just turn my head. And I put a blind spot killing mirror on the side view so I never miss anyone on my driver's side
I think you miss the point which is that so many cars now have a back up camera that it's expected. If you can get a cheap Honda with a back up camera you should get one in the Miata.
Lol all the "I can turn my head" comments, you're missing the point. Blind spot, lane departure, back up camera, all means lower monthly insurance bro.
mamba109 so safety nannies lower your car insurance?
Wish they would go back to pop up headlights
The only issue I've had has been the headliner falling down a couple of times, currently its fixed but waiting on additional clips from Mazda.
harrismi7 that is am amazing value no doubt. Someone took about a 10k hit on that for you ! Well done.
S2kTi my 16gt was 3500 miles used and it cost almost the same. You can get a good almost new ND for the same price if you look correctly
Best fun affordable car mx5ND yeah that's what I've noticed. I'm surprised how much they've depreciated already even with sub 10k miles on many of them. It'll be interesting to see if the deal gets even sweeter when the 2019 update hits the streets.
A very combination of the cuteness and sporty style. Salam dari Indonesia untuk Sofyan 😉
I thought all cars legally in America made after like 2017 need to have back up cameras
Samir Samhouri depends on production date. Mazda just made the cut.
Any car that's a 2018 model year or newer has to have one. Or so I thought.
as of April/May of 2018
Music rules makes me think I'm in love....... Don't ask
All the best Shaun of NYC
Buy one...if you like tiny. The Cayman, 370Z are not. I drove an ultimate BMW M2 (Perf Pkg) thru Turo and still like my Miata ND more.
Great review as always. Btw what is that intro song? It's thumpin
Wow that music at the start is dope Sofy!
TL;DW: 2018 Club exactly the same as 2016/2017 Club, but with nicer seats.
BTW, how much HP and torque does the engine have, not counting the 5 extra HP from the red oil fill cap? Lol You forgot to mention that.

Bless you Mazda for making this wonderful car! The black wheels look nice, not sure about the red top. I would buy this car.
Auto dimming and heated mirror is the only thing I wish I had on my club!
Is there a hardtop Miata? That would be one of my dream cars
Carter Davis miata rf
MX-5 RF ! You didn't know that ??
There's the RF, there's the older PRHT, and there are aftermarket fixed hardtops available too
Carter Davis the RF.
Enterprise rented me one, it is like a go-kart, so fun to drive!
One touch up windows are only available on Chrysler and Mercedes Banz cars. They developed it.
Watched this video in my S2000... them amenities, add ons for the Club trim and seats are enticing.
Burnt Cherry top looks awesome on the ceramic!
Glad I went with the manual. It’s the best Manual transmission in its price class!
You are the best car reviewer !!!! LOVE YOU!!! I DO OWN ONE MYSELF AND I LOVE IT!!!
This car would make me take the back roads home almost everyday.
I’ve had my 2017 MX5 Club RF with BBS package. I love it! I’m a big guy b
The Miata 2018 flies. I highly recommend everyone test drive one.
Am I the only one who prefers last generation Club model with hardtop!?
Can You show more of the car in stead of 1 angle the whole time. I really need to see more of the interior and exterior.
I wish they made it a bit bigger to be able to fit at least someone who is 185-188 cm tall.
kamata93
Maybe you can do a foamectomy as tall drivers do on the NA
Great review and love good comparisons. Do try and remove repetitive use of the phrase "a little bit more."
By far the best car reviewer out there.
I can get a chirp in 2nd from my 013 club.Corners better than the old mg's and triumphs i used to drive.
It always worth looking at a Miata!
I'm glad I chose the 2016 Club
I really like the way these look but they're out of my price range. I got a 2013 FR-S a few weeks ago that I'm really happy with.
Wow this is a NICE car!!!!
I want one!
At least give an option where you can buy a hardtop extra.
custommotor
Funny that. I have a hardtop with my NA. I put it on in December when we had a cold snap in Europe but found it very boomy and noisy. It was off again and back in store by the end of February. I was glad to see the back of it.
Just heard that the 2019 MX-5 is getting a bump in HP, about 30 more ponies and higher rev line 7500 RPM.
What is the name of the song playing at the beginning of the video and by the way great job on your video great review
That car can fit in my back pocket!
説明が的確でわかりやすくイイですね!MX-5の魅力が伝わりました。
