    Thank you Eddie for making this video! I just got my licence not long ago and I had friends telling me that my turns are quite worrying and I have totally no idea what it is as they can't explain. I realized what I can work on after watching your video. I always turn too early like your first demo turn and went wide at the end of the turn. Now I have a better understanding and gonna practice my proper turn! Thanks so much!!!

    Ok for the record this is by far the best cornering lesson I have ever learnt!!! I learned to ride in Dubai and there the instructors only safety tip is to kit up and nothing beyond that. They want you to just follow instructions and follow mindlessly. They don't explain the cause and the effects.
    I need to take my license for North America again and I wish I could come down and take a day or two instructions from you. It will be better than any riding school.
    You are the instructor every would be rider needs. Amazing!!!! Hats off to you. I think I am a fan spinning at 8,000 rpm!!!!!

    Hi Eddie! Need your advice. I`m thinking about choosing a seat option for BMW GS1200. Im pretty high 6.6. I used to think until recently, that if you a tall guy, you need a high seat. But just by chance, I tried a lower seat option for the motorcycle, and it immediately became more comfortable. I think the way to think about this is if you seat in a car. The taller you are, the lower you put your driver seat, to have good ergonomics, and if you short, you crank that seat all the way up. Any thoughts on that?

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  5 років тому +1

      The GS has a low/high position built into the seat if you take it off and look...that what you mean? Other than that, I would leave the seat as is and just practice to get used to it.

    Not sure if you covered this in past videos: cornering and street paint. As in crosswalks, PED XING, speed limit paint on streets. I have seen Tour De France racers eat it, as they corner and hit the street paint. I know the tires are much different, but as a new rider, would love some insight/tips.

    I've been doing practices in the parking lot at work using your advice.
    Just yesterday I got lucky on the road during a slow turn, It had rained earlier in the day and I hit my first wet street lid.
    The front tire slipped a little but thankfully the MSF training, and what I practiced thanks to you in the parking lot came in handy, applied a little more throttle to make the bike stand back up. I'm just waiting to get hit by my first stone now. I heard that's going to scare the crap out of me.

If the camera person could maybe stand on a small 3 step painters ladder, it would give us the perfect field of view for this and similar setups.

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  4 роки тому +1

      All depends on your pace....you can ride through turns and never use the brakes but you'd be going at a very moderate pace...when you're going faster, the engine won't slow you down enough at all. Mastering the brakes is key. Learning how is only possible through high level courses like champschool.com

    • @PanRider939
      @PanRider939 4 роки тому

      MotoJitsu Hi. I wasn’t suggesting as a riding style but a practice. True about pace if this is quick you won’t slow quick enough. I used to do it the other way around, braking for corners easy, was turning in to early, being in the right gear at the right time not so much because i’m off the throttle and don’t live on the track. For touring the wide entry, engine braking added so much smoothness, less brake and about 10-15 k to my cornering speed. Overall a more smooth consistent and enjoyable ride. Great video by the way, on point.

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  4 роки тому

      Do as you wish but at a certain pace, rolling off and engine braking won't slow you down...if you're just cruising at 30mph then you probably don't have to do much of anything.

    I just bought a 2014 Harley Dyna Switchback. I swore I’d never get a bike unless it was a Harley. I know. One owner, immaculate. Maintained. Low, low kms. A trade for a job I’m doing for a long time client. A once in a lifetime deal on my dream bike that I couldn’t afford otherwise and I couldn’t walk away from. I’ve never ridden before. Not really. Laid a Honda 500 on its side when I was 13 and had a low speed wipe out on a gravel road with a Honda 50. I’m 60. Next week I do the written and then I start on professional training with a licensed instructor. Watching these and other videos on learning to ride I alternate between anticipation and excitement and then fear. What am I getting myself into! I knew if I was going to do this I was going to learn the right way but I honestly had no idea everything that is involved in being a safe rider, and that doesn’t account for the unforeseen dangers. Maybe I did bite off a bit. Just have to wait a few more minutes for the fear to reside and the anticipation and excitement to return. Lol

    Fast Ed thanks as usual for this nice video. Safety comes first, the choice of speed is personal but anyway MUST be safe. So the right technique if mastered is a good tool to achive this goal. So keep your videos and information going. But, as a a matter of fact, people should get a debrief from a trainer like you. It is never enough to watch videos, it will of course help in many ways, but at the end of the day one should do this training with a trainer or coach. Thanks a lot buddy.

    At these slow speeds "Look & Push" (push being counter-steering) will get you around any corner just the way you need too.
    Body position, line selection, trail braking, throttle & gear selection will all come later for new riders, add steps gradually.

    • @MotoJitsu

      @@MotoJitsu I do understand what you mean, but giving a new rider too much to think about going into a turn is going to cause them to panic. If they are watching their speed, they'll be fine.

  • @JeremyUSA

    Hey great video and very useful! Quick question, at the 4: 20-minute mark, you state that you want to have the most lean at the beginning of the turn when the bike is at it's slowest. Is it still o.k to retain that same lean angle until you're done with the corner and throttle out? Also, at least on some turns, it looks like you might be trail-braking (?); if so, for those of us that haven't mastered that, is it best to just maintain the speed you entered the corner in (until you throttle out of the turn)?

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  5 років тому +1

      If you lean a lot in the beginning, as you go through the corner, the lean angle decreases. :)

    also what happens if you try knee dragging without using a knee if that makes sense ? like you go over that far without trying to drag it and leave it close to the tank ?

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  5 років тому +1

      Only time I really drag knee is practice or the track...mostly I just move my upper body.

  • @rodneybosire417
    @rodneybosire417 3 роки тому

    Wish I knew the dimensions of that corner. Now I know that when leaning you have to deliberately turn the bars (I always thought that both tires had to be on the same plane.) Great tutorial. Just a quick one, is there a minimum speed for a lean involving putting the knee down? I assume you were doing so at 25mph.

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  3 роки тому

      I say in the video I think, 50ft diameter...or 40ft, I believe. Knee down depends on speed and how big the radius is.

    I’m so addicted to riding it reminds me of my cocaine days.
    I’m 58 retired got a Suzuki Boulevard C90T 1500,bad ass bike, heavy and quick.
    When I’m not riding it, I’m always checking out gear and videos, these videos do help you look for certain things.
    Cornering is major concern if you don’t enter correctly or are going to fast for a turn.
    I had a Honda XL-100 licensed at 15 years old.
    Got slowly bigger bikes.
