Hey, consider yourself lucky when I got home from Afghanistan in 2009. My wife fucking took everything for me so I didn’t even have a truck to work on.
Interesting, nice way to do that. Although if your going to so much trouble, do both seals, not just one of them. I suppose you would after replacing one side seal, temporarily install ring carrier, move adjuster back to original position, then unscrew other side adjuster one turn and repeat the steps again. OR you could just turn both adjusters back one turn at the beginning.
@@californiakayaker on the aam axle you don't haven't a disconnect the front axle is always locked. The passenger side seal is replaced the same way as the driver side
How would you go about doing the long side? I figure while being in there it would make most sense to replace both side seals. Good video here and thorough. I like your style!
Is there a video to show how to pre load the bearings on the adjusters? I’ll be replacing the axle seals and pinion seal soon. Want to make sure I pre load correctly.
Sorry I don't have that video but the manual said: from zero play on the side bearings and then tighten 4 more hole on the adjusters. 2 on each side or depend on how much play between the pinion gear and the ring gear. I would mark the pinion shaft, the shaft nut before remove the nut to change the pinion seal. and mark both side on the side bearing adjuster and count the turn when taking it out. Hope this help
Exelent video,,I have a problem on my 2008 ram 6.7 ,,,I have a leak on passenger side wheel,,,I don't think I can tackle this project,,my question is how much it cost if I take it to the dealer
I’m doing my 04 dodge it’s just like this one I have no lift so I’m struggling to get the diff gears back in correctly I marked the sides but I have a sway bar in my way so it makes it very hard would u recommend taking the Sway bar outa my way or just fighting it
I am doing both seals right now. Do I just put the bearing adjuster right back where it was when I started (counting turns, etc.) or is some pre-loading that must be done? Thanks.
Put it back the same where it was but, If the Vehicle Have over 200k km, the bearings worn out you can tight the adjuster one more note on each side to pre load
@@silverstonespov5291 I can't get the adjuster all the way to original location without a lot of pressure. Do you only use the screwdriver in the video to tighten the adjuster? Should it be that tight if it's going back to original position? I know there's a $50 tool to turn the adjusters. What do you think might be going on?
My 2019 Ram Power Wagon 2500 front axle is leaking fluid in the same place as first shown in this video. 36700 miles. I do offroad it but I am not abusive in terms of speed or crashing into rocks. I am also pretty tame on the road and always do a check to make sure 4WD is disconnected before going from offroad to on road. Any input on why this leak would be happening at such low mileage? Not looking for the Ford/GM fanboy responses.
Check the Axle shaft U-joint make sure it not dry causing vibration or check the diff breather/ vent tube not plug causing high pressure inside the diff
Depend on how it set up but it would be similar procedure, either adjuster wheel or shims try not to mix up, keep them the same side of shims or the same turn. Mark everything before take it out and keep them in order, good luck
good video could you include part numbers and or exact names for the seal you're replacing on the 2008 ram 2500. as well you could also mention 4x4 it is implied but it would help a search.
It’s a great video, except the adjusters that you backed off to remove the gear assembly, were wayyyy to tight on mine, I legit cannot get them to rotate it makes no sense how it’s easy for you to
well done! informative video no bullshit. I was wondering my abs wheels speed sensor was ripped off I replaced the wheel side and bought a new plug end. but I don't know where the wire went. would you know where that sensor connects? I would love to know it's driving me nuts
That worked perfect for me. I was deployed and came back to multiple problems and this was one. Thank you
Man I swear I came back and my truck went to shit lol

I know this is an older video but what brand seal do you recommend?
We use most seals from Napa. Sometimes dealership. Quality between them not much different
This is very helpful video, thanks
Good video my friend bout to do them in my 13

I’m not exactly sure because dealer labor cost is high. You can call them and ask for a quote

I’m doing mine right now how are you able to get the axle nut off without the differential spinning around on you?
I use impact gun or you can put the bar thru the u-joint behind the knuckle to stop it
Is this the same process for Dana 60 on 2 nd gen rams
I’m not sure, never open one of that before, if the year not far and it’s 2500 it should be the same set up

What is the cost usually for a shop to do these?
It aroud 3 to 4 hrs job depend 1 or 2 seal. Cost about $700 or more depend on how much the shop labor charge.
My axle keeps piping out you think that the seal is bad
Check fluid level, see if the seal been leaking, check both side of axle U-joint too.
There is tool that should be used to install the seals that keeps the seal square in the tube.

Do you have to get the right seal out first to move the shaft over far enough to get the gear assembly out
I don't have to remove the right seal only the shaft, after both shaft out then the gear unit
@@silverstonespov5291 thank you

The right seal is the same process as the left seal
