In this video, I learn how to drive a tractor, fell a tree, and mill a log! Felling a tree is something I never attempted before shooting this video. I am well aware of the dangers in this type of work. Thankfully, I had some experts (Chris Rauber and his dad, Brent a.k.a. Papa Bear Rauber) to guide me through the process. This was a ton of fun! I hope y'all enjoy the video.
Please note that this video is not intended to be an instructional video.

Good job on the tree felling. I grew up using wood heat so we learned a lot about how to cut down and cut up trees. Safety is the first consideration, our neighbor was killed cutting down a tree.
Seriously, how have you not got more subscribers?! Your videos are well presented, filmed, edited and branded etc! You're a fantastic role model for women looking to get into woodworking and am the amazing source of information for a complete novice like myself. Thanks for the great content.
Oh and greetings from London, England!
Wow, thank you so much!! :)
Love watching all the things Ashley Harwood does. You can tell she really gets in to all wood working aspects of wood turning and everything involved up to the process of turning great job Ashley 👏
Shapen that chain!
Those will be some wonderful pieces to turn!
Ash will Dye so well!
15 years doing this kind of work takes a toll on your body!! Be safe!😎👍
Your drive and motivation never ceases to amaze me.
Hi Ashley, just letting you know how much I enjoy your videos. It's fun to watch, informative and interesting. Please keep it up. Looking forward to the next one.
One thing I've noticed about you over the years is your friends are really nice and considerate people. And yet they didn't trust you with a sharped chain saw. ha! Another xclnt video.
Or had the decency to put the ROPS up on their Tractor.
Ashley, you are a brave lady!! You will try anything. I'm in central New York, also cut trees to turn. Turning is dangerous, to a point, but sawing a standing tree, more so. From the tree to the Bowl is a great feeling of acommlishment, that most woodturners, don't have that chance, if they don't live in the country. Great Video, keep up your good work....
Thanks! So glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome Video Ashley, I miss the hills of central and northern NY.
Great teachers you have there 😊👍👍👍
It's always nice to learn something new. Thank you for sharing. Love and God Bless.
Thanks for the variety of videos.
I do enjoy your work plus the tricks and tips you offer, thank you.
Nice one Ashley! A perfect couple of fellings. Great to see the process, but if I ever get a milling device I'll save up for one with an autofeed...
Ashley absolutely fair play on taking on that especially if you haven't done it before and to starting with something as big as them two Ash trees waow 👍👍👍
I grew up around all this sorta stuff then spent 20 years living in a subdivision. Now I'm on acreage and have some dead trees to bring down. Tremendous respect to the men and women that do this stuff. A falling tree is no joke. Hope we get to see some bowls from that tree soon.
Almost August, and I'm so looking forward to colder days again. When I see this I feel the want to get up and help out, just simply do something. Summer is just too easy in my eyes, and I'm a person who give up when things get easy. Nothing like a natural resistance to get you on your feet. And it's completely free even, how about that.
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Looking good in chaps Miss Ashley, good to see you back too. Take care. Wedges are your best friend.
Nice work. Well done video.
I am SO glad that you used the safety equipment (like chainsaw chaps, etc.) that too often gets omitted when this type of video is made. I ma old, not obsolete, because all my life we used ear protection, eye protection and body protection, while so many of my peers now need hearing aids and such.
The quote was supposed to be I am old.
Well done Ashley as always
Another set of skills for the rennaisance woman. Enjoy watching your journey!
What a great learning experience I thought you did well for the first time doing everything
Will be looking for that tractor to show up in your backyard. 😁. That was a fun video.
Well, looks to be a dreary summer you’re having there!?
Guess it was filmed some time ago?
Wonderful. As always. ❤️
Haha - yeah, this was filmed back in January. Glad you enjoyed it!
Fun video. Good job.
Glad you enjoyed it
amazing, i like everything you do!
Hi Ashley, I am happy to see that you used much better safety equipment during the felling operation on this video. I will suggest that when felling, your wedge should be about 90°, instead of the much smaller wedges that your friend suggested. The larger wedge angle will keep the hinge intact until the tree is almost on the ground, helping keep the tree on path to your intended felling target.
Nice shots with both of those drops. Looks to me like that chain might need some TLC though.
Awesome job...like a pro!
Chainsaw looked blunt.. lots of dust rather than shavings!
My saw never labored that much but I know to file the chain before cutting. I would have been frosted in tree shavings!
So when do we get to see the bowl video? Awesome video as usual Ashley.
Good Job Ashley 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏼💪🏼👸🪵
Nice job. Bar oil and sharpen....
Nice job.
Thank you! Cheers!
The cutiest lumberjackie I have ever seen 😍
Hopefully you will do a video of you turning a bowl with this wood.
Another great informational video, on how NOT to do a lot of things. Ashley, if you had of tipped that Tractor over, you would have done one of two things. One, tried to jump off the Tractor, which is the most dangerous thing to do. Two, not using the Seat Belt, or having the ROPS up (Roll Over Protection System), it is there for a reason, and as your head is clearly higher than than the hinge part of the ROPS, you would be injured. Both of those things, if you had of been injured, as the ROPS isn't up, you would be wiped by the insurance, as safety measures haven't been taken into account. Don't get me wrong, I love that you try new things, and show them to us all, so we can see if we want to try them out. And I'm not picking these out because your a female, I would be saying the same to anyone that was clearly doing something that puts them at risk. Others commenting have pointed out things already that I was going to mention, and I'm not here to bash you, just please take some things into account, esp. as your sharing your adventures online, which I truly appreciate as it shows people what we do to produce the products they like to purchase, and helps them to appreciate what goes into it. Please be safe, keep turning, and we want to see you doing so safely.
This Carolina girl definitely isn't used to the cold. The heated gloves give it away 😂
Yeah.... very true!
Your brother is my kind of guy!
I like Chris. Can we expect more of him in future videos?
Did you say Canisteo, NY? Bloody hell, that is way out in the puckerbrush, Ashley. And in January, no less. Looks like you got a little snow, too. A far cry from SC, right?
Adorable.
Ash is beautiful lumber but it won't be very long before there are any left. So sad.
@9:15 'even a woodturner' Are you saying there's something wrong with turners?
Where did you move to ? I see snow ❄️
Is the living sign still on the hill in Canisteo?
Yes it is!
It's January on the east coast? August on the west. 🙂
That looked like the dullest chainsaw I've ever seen
or the hardest ash in the world..
Definitely blunt
coucou, Ashley tu es vraiment fantastique qu'elle travail pas facile de coupé un arbre. j'adore se que tu fait aussi en tournage. Merci
Great job, but next time Full Bunny!
Awesome video! Love to see ya learning new skills, that guy has the personality of a wet blanket though haha
Thanks for watching!
I know they call it saw dust but it really should be throwing small chips.
Молодец!!!
Does Ashley's southern accent get a little more pronounced when she is away from home? I can't tell if that or I just noticed it more in this video. :)
@@DukeStarbuckle I don't think it's intentional or annoying, more subconscious reaction to being away from home. I think I do the same only mine is Boston unfortunately 😀
Did you tell," temperature?
Can't believe it is snowing in the video, it feels 112 degrees here today.
You didn't include the tree cam shot during the fall :(
I was felling trees at twelve years of age. Pretty good for your first time.
Snow, how old is this video?
It was shot in January.
ASHley fells two ASH trees, priceless to be an observer of your experience. A little more time on the tractor and you'll be a pro.
How mad were you with that dull chainsaw.
That just makes a dangerous task more dangerous.
Seen sharper cheese knives… good job though
All I can say is DAYUM
He should have put a new blade on that saw before you even started cutting. If you watch the video, you see the sawdust coming off the saw. If you had a sharp or new blade, you would have been done in a minute or less. There should’ve been chips flying off that saw, no sawdust. Just a little bit of information for you on your next tree felling adventure. Good video for you though.
цепь хорошо бы поточить, стружка как пыль летит😏
Ashley you are unbelievably gorgeous
Łancuch naostrz
First
Someone please get a sharp chain on that saw. Painful to watch.
long hair..... always tie it back.... and shove it down inside your jacket/top... long hair hanging down the front is not good... imagine if you lean over too far and the chain gets hold of your hair.... it will rip it out...
So SAFETY FIRST....... :-)
A proper tractor.. friends don't let friend drive green and yellow.....
Oh My -- family channel, family channel - what a nice piece of --------- lumber you have there.
You are so darn entertaining. The Orange safety pants really made me think "Orange you a cutie"
Until next time, stay safe, be good (ok as good as possible) and keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you are up to.
And all I really want to know is -- does your husband have a channel? and when are you going to be 30?
Creep...

@@Stillnapie Well thank you Sappynapie. Do you know that there are a lot of husband and wife teams where each member has their own website? Naw, you are too busy with Mario Brothers.

Ok... as long as you'll pay the videographer and editors to produce these videos ;)
If you had been taught by a professional , you never make a back cut higher than your notch. too many reasons to mention.
Show us your experience video
Complete bullshit there keyboard craftsman...
@@Stillnapie we will wait for him to post his expert video.... but I sure won't hold my breath as I'm sure he's all talk
You should be saving trees, not cutting them down
Boofheads
Perhaps you didn't hear when they explained that these ash trees were killed by the emerald ash borer.
First
you win!!
