I swear the chemistry between Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews really made this movie what it is. I doubt it would’ve been nearly as beloved if it hadn’t been specifically those two, their bond just feels so genuine and loving by the end.
Fun fact: the fall on the bleachers wasn’t scripted and all the reactions were genuine. She also unintentionally set the man’s arm on fire at dinner. LOVE this movie!
Lily: "I told you, I need an attitude adjustment" "Wow, that is very self aware" Yeah, in the books, both of Lily's parents are therapists so, while she has the same issues as any teen, she often shows a greater level of introspection, especially in retrospect, because of her parents' influence.
You guys have GOT to watch the second one for all the amazing Joe moments (with both Mia and Clarisse...)! One of the few times a sequel was just as good as the first one
Yes! That scene where he threatens Viscount Mabrey with one of the most iconic movie lines ever. Mabrey: "Fear is not in my vocabulary!" Joe: "No....but it's in your eyes."
In Mia's defense, she _asked_ Michael if it was a date & _he said no._ She's not wrong for rescheduling a (as far as she knows) platonic hangout. I don’t believe she would have ditched him for Josh otherwise.
Agreed. Had Michael said it WAS a date, Mia might have held the evening with more significance instead of saying she would just hear him play another night.
The actress who plays Lily (Heather Matarazzo) hosts a podcast named "Shut Up And Listen", same as the cable show she hosted in this movie. Also, in the books: dad was alive, but was diagnosed with testicular cancer and rendered infertile leaving Mia his only heir. Mia didn't know he was royal, just thought he was a wealthy European. Grandma was a crazy lady who tattooed on her makeup. Her mom's family were also alive, and were kinda hick farmers.
It's actually because of Julie Andrews the dad is dead in the movies. They told Meg their plans to make the Queen more important, and give a lot of the dads lines to her, so Meg asked who they got as the queen. They told her, and she was like, "Kill the dad!"
Joe, Charlotte, Paolo, the grumpy neighbor and probably a few others all worked together in Prerty Woman. Manager, front desk, store manager, and elevator attendant respectively.
Julie Andrews is such a legend love her in Mary Poppins (1964) and the sound of the music (1965) which I used to love watching on the abc network company during Christmas in the 2000s but this movie was the one that introduced me to her...
So happy to find more members of the Joe fan club! Also fun fact: the woman that wanted to steal the throne from Mia with her ghoul of a husband is the face of the nun from the conjuring movies.
Fun Fact: the friend's brother (mop head) is brother to actor Jason Schwartzman, cousin to THE Nic Cage and grandson to legendary director Francis Ford Coppola. His mother is the actress that played Adrien in the Rocky movies (her real name is currently escaping me)
@Michelle-DiPalo He's the only one still in the band, though, from what I understand. Feancis Ford Coppola is his uncle. Carmine Coppola, who scored The Godfather, is his grandfather. Talia is Francis' sister. She also played Michael Corleon's sister in the Godfather films.
This is the 2nd reaction to this movie I've watched since my grandmother passed away this past summer. She took me to see it in theaters when I was a kid and the relationship between Mia and Clarisse always reminded me of us. So this movie means even more to me now. 💖 Also, Fat Louie is the best. 😻
Just a heads-up to Chris and Curtis. If you're not aware, Julie Andrews (Queen Clarice) is the very same actress who is world renowned as the great "Mary Poppins"... Just letting you guys know in case you're not aware already.
Julie Andrews. Best actress of all time IMO. She was also the queen in the Shrek sequels. Still as much a gem in these recent classics as she was 60 years ago. She nailed her 1st 3 films with all kinds of awards. I recommend all 3. Mary Poppins, The Americanization of Emily and of course the best film ever made, Sound of Music. Many great ones throughout the years as well.
28:41 Keep in mind, all of these paparazzi’s would have legal action taken against them. Not just because of invasion of privacy, but she’s a minor. They’re taking pictures of a half naked girl on the beach. That’s a crime.
So.....can we get a The Devil Wears Prada, since we have started a anne Hathaway film here. It is literally my "guilty" pleasure film. Meryl Streep kills it.
Finally, you guys reacted to one of my favorite films! You gotta watch The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. You won’t be disappointed. Seeing Anne Hathaway as Princess Mia brings back nostalgic memories ❤ Speaking of Anne Hathaway, you guys should react to her film Passengers (2008). This film shows that she can take on a more serious role as an adult actress❤
To answer your question at the end Julie Andrews, who played the queen decided Genovia was known for their pears. The director asked her to imagine what she thought Genova would be known for. The other was music I believe.
I watched this movie when I was young. When Hathaway took off and started starring in big movies, I would always think "Hey, that's the Princess Diaries girl!"
Fun Fact: Christy Carlson Romano (Kim Possible) was originally casted to play as Mia Thermopolis for the feature, but due to scheduling conflicts while filming the Disney Channel series Even Stevens, she's unable to make the audition.
This was a Garry Marshall film, he also directed Pretty Woman and had a few Easter eggs from it in this movie. A few of the actors are in both movies lol like the actor who plays Joe in Princess Diaries is the same actor who plays the hotel manager in Pretty Woman
I am so happy yall love this movie (that was actually based off the book) and I can’t wait for you guys to react to the 2nd Princess Diaries in preparation for the upcoming Princess Diaries 3!
He was the giant in Jack and the beanstalk (2009) too. Which was an odd film despite the great casting. It also featured Gilbert Godrey (parrot in aladdin and was in the pbs kids show cyberchase), christopher loyd (back to the future and who framed roger rabbit), Katey Segal (married with children and futurama), and Chevy Chase( community show, national lampoon vacation, and caddyshack). It aged pretty well tho.
The girl who plays the bedt friend was in an amazing movie when she was younger. It's called Welcome to the dollhouse. Worth a watch, a dose of reality compared to most Hollywood teen movies.
Julie Andrews also from Mary Poppins and many other films. She is a Queen. Yes, there is a second. movie. It's called The Princess Diaries 2 the royal engagement.

I was like 11 when this movie came out and was the perfect age for it. I had the movie on vhs and watched it all the time. I also had the soundtrack on CD. Love Julie Andrews and Joe is awesome.
Fun Facts about this movie: it came out actually 2001. The movie features characters who sometimes walk from one place to another. This movement is captured by the camera and shown to the audience. The dialogue in this movie was written in complete sentences. These sentences were then spoken by the actors. It’s like they planned it or something.
The real heroes of this movie are the Prime Minister and his wife. It's a common thing among royals to do. If a guest or the royal themselves embarrasses themselves, do the thing too to take the attention off of them. There's a story that Queen Elizabeth had a dinner with African leaders, and when they were brought lemon water to dip their fingers, they thought it was for drinking, and did so. The queen then proceeded to do the same thing too.
If you love this you need to watch the sequel. If you love JOE, you NEED to watch the sequel. He drops one if the COLDEST LINES in history, you'll know it when you hear it. Plus it features the first time Julie Andrews sang again after her surgery, which is a beuatiful moment. 🤌
Didn’t see it till a few months back. I’d seen bits and pieces when it aired on Disney channel but didn’t see it in its entirety till a few months back. I think that was because back in the day when it came out it was marketed primarily towards girls. But I think it’s absolutely one that works for everyone. In addition for a G rated 🎥 it’s got good jokes (and not easy ones either no cheap laughs)
This is the first movie where I knew Julie Andrews as Julie Andrews. I did see Mary Poppins first as a child, but I never connected the dots that Queen Clarisse was the same person as Mary Poppins.
Dude, you think Joe is smooth in this movie, wait till you see the sequel. Princess Diaries: Royal Engagement has Joe pulling one of the smoothest moves I've ever seen. They also make him both more endearing and more devious. It's well worth the watch.

the side characters also make this movie fr. gupta, mr robitussin, joe, paolo, i could go on lol
Anne Hathaway got the part because when she went in for her audition, she went to sit down, missed the chair, and fell.
They went, "That's her."
Shut upppp 😩😂
