Thanks for watching, and see you on the lanes!
Am not going to comment on these techniques for shorter people other than to say that longer steps is the method I have most seen used successfully but will point out that for tall bowlers (I am 6'4") they will play havoc on your timing. When I was in serious competition (I used to bowl the northeast regional circuit when I was younger) the only way I found to increase ball speed was a higher backswing. Basic ball speed was set at top of backswing and the simple way to do this was to hold the ball higher in stance and let basic laws of pendulum affect your backswing and ball speed. The advantage of this was it did not affect timing. Good vid, tho'
Do you already have a video on how to react to the lane breaking down? But I only have a 1 hook ball and a spare ball so I cant switch balls.
thats all we had in the day..so it means more real skill
@@aptknifethrowerguy8342 i was asking because everyone tells me to switch balls
Hard to cover a topic like lane break down since there are a ton of variables that can cause it to break down in different ways. But maybe Coach Arthur can give us a video on this subject. Good suggestion!
You can change your hand placement or flatten your wrist. I usually bowl starting with my pinky being right next to my index finger. When I'm over hooking the ball I simply move my pinky away from my index finger. Loosening your wrist will completely kill all hook which is why some pros like norm duke do that instead of using a spare ball. Increasing your speed, moving left, and or finding more oil (typically the middle of the lane) wouldn't hurt either.
Art... Please do a more advanced video for us 190-210 ths bowlers on how to increase entry angle at the pindeck to avoid wrap 10's.. thank you.
Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll get on it
when you hook a bowling ball, the ball loses a lot of speed and power when it reaches the pins because of the change of direction and friction so theoretically, isnt throwing a straight ball faster and more powerful?
In a way yes. The other impotant factor is the angle the ball and the direction the ball is rolling in.
@megatank • Theoretically yes, but not more efficient.
A straighter ball is going to be faster than most hook balls. If thrown correct. I would agree and say that is a solid statement. But More powerful a hit well then not a chance it will be more powerful. The USBC did a study and the balls that strike the most enter the pocket on the 17.5 board at a 6% angle. If you a right handed bowler draw a straight line at a angle 6% from the pocket you will be starting on the approach to the right and have to cross two gutters with the ball. Meaning it is not possible to make.
Not saying you cant strike with a straight ball but out of all throwing styles out there the 17.5 at the proper angle delivers the best results. The main thing to a hook ball is No matter how you bowl, that your ball speed and rev rates match up. Big huge hooks from one gutter to the next and in the pocket look cool as heck but don't carry the most strikes and often end in splits and 10 pin leaves.
Learn how to be a good semi roller in bowling. this gives the ball a good end over end roll from coming up the back of the ball and it flares late giving a snap on the end. I wish I would of learned this 20 years agp
This Ivan dude seems fimilar
A little...right!
I'm really needing to roll my bowling ball Instead of sliding the ball. I need help.
Thank you
You are welcome
Does using a glove help or hurt your average?
i denpends
do you have a wrist injury
No but I have a problem keeping my wrist from turning
How do I get more speed if I’m a two finger bowler ?
What weight ball are you using
@@ArtOfBowling 15
And I’m not a two hander
@@parisbryant3311 • Footwork.
The main problem I have is keeping my balance mainly because I have a bad habit of looking up right before I release the ball. Is there any drills I can do for this problem?
Pratice keeping you eye on the target until you hear the ball hit the pins
@@ArtOfBowling ok thanks I’ll be sure to try that the next time I go bowl.
I have always been told that a lighter ball will increase your ball speed.
So, if he just used a lighter ball, he would NOT have to do any of those 3 things, and his ball speed would still increase.
Yes but we do want to stay at 14 pounds to take advantage of the more advance weight blocks. If we get lighter than that they change. He woukd also lise to much of the inertia the bowling ball creates keeping the arm swing stright and not muscling the ball.
What weight ball was he using? Just curious I think I need to step down a pound or two from 16lbs can’t throw faster than 10-11 mph and always leave a 10 pin
Time to drop in weight
How is Ivan doing now?
he is great saw him on December 30th at Art of bowling reunion day
Talk about dropping the ball
If your a 2 hander I had the same problem. I fixed it by not getting as low and giving the ball a slight loft, after a week of that I got lower and worked on a smoother release
You look a little like Drew Carey... no offense.
none taken... the only difference is that Drew Carey is funny... but I'm HILARIOUS 😛
Gosh Art... A former Coach of the Year giving a youth coach lesson? Shameful. 👎
😛
