Fabulous musicianship as always Warren. I play primarily bass and guitar but I have a midi controller and have been getting more comfortable with it watching your vids. I already have a good grasp of music theory but going back to the basics with piano is just solidifying all the concepts. Taking your advice and my time working through the scales in ALL 12 keys to get my technique going. I know the results will come since I applied similar approach teaching myself bass and guitar. Solid foundation is key! For anyone out there getting started be patient with yourself, follow Warren's guidelines and don't give up. You'll get there in time.

Well i guess because a minor and u move a half step up and make it a Major B flat major, then it will sound nice. Conversly, again at G major u went up a half step but instead played minor A flat to give a nice interesting sound.
Sorry, from exactly 13:40 can you explain how you think or the thought process behind the B flat major to this chord progression, it sounds good. Starting from C (1st chord) then you went A minor (6 chord) then half step up to B Flat major ? Then to G major... and here you did that embellishment again. G major half step up to A Flat Minor into A minor(6 chord) again. Thanks :)
I learned a lot in this video. For the life of me I couldn't figure out polyrhythms (specifically 2:3) until now, for some reason. I got lost in the fancy fingerwork, but it's a joy to listen to you play, Warren, and I was still able to understand the concepts you were teaching. Mr Warren, I don’t read music. But I had a theory and tested it. When u were speaking on triplets, I played a metronome and you were saying “tri-pl-et” in 6/8 timing. Consequently, Can I understand playing triplets in the hands as playing 6/8 in one hand and playing 4/4 timing in the other hand?

Damn, İ play sax but piano is too hard. Double clefs to read, a lot of notes to play together. İ started recently but is too frustrating becuz İ cant play what is in my mind 😔

But I also understand it’s a different instrument, so I have to give me body time to adjust to using my fingers and how my brain handles reflex in a different way.
I wish somebody made videos about rhythm that are beginner friendly,. Always playing with a METRONOME, SLOW tempo (something that a beginner can follow and play), no fancy chords.. I think most of the cross-rhythms can be shown and taught with ONE or at most two FINGERs per hand. Replacing single finger moves with chords or scales is relatively easy... rhythm is hard. To be clear I could follow more or less the first 10 minutes (well, I could only feel what was going on at 5:50... :). Tapping and vocalizing the rhythm is a great idea, I've found konokol / the takadimi system / other variants that helped me to internalize some rhythms. I wonder why rhythm teaching is so neglected. There were several books written in the last two hundred system (Schmitt, Hanon, Liszt, you name it..) that teach step-by-step hand independence, even/smooth playing, finger movement and positioning, scale harmonizations... Why isn't rhythm treated in a similar fashion with a good progressive system? Am I missing something? I guess people who attend to a piano school pick this up through a series of small musical pieces (gavottes, tiny etudes...). But I feel this method tightly couples the rhythm to the actual piece/melody, and it could be taught independently just like the any other building block you learn, like scales, chromatic fingering, playing a melody with octaves and so on.. Thank you again, and can't wait to hear what you'll come up with!
Karoly Horvath honestly in my opinion, I think it’s neglected because it’s difficult to teach rhythms. For me rhythm comes naturally, I can feel pulse in my bones, it’s just something I’ve always had. But I will make it my duty to create a method any folks struggling with this concept.
Hi Warren, I think if it's hard to teach it's because it is taught the wrong way. I'm serious. I never naturally felt rhythm, dance... Yet everything I've learnt became second nature and now feels completely natural (octave bass, tri__et, blues shuffle, 3+3+2, 1 andof2, ..). I had to internalize rhythm to my body: counting, verbalising, clapping, singing helped a lot. I also practice on the jew's harp and that forces you to synchronize your hand movement and breath, and that did wonders too. I feel some part of rhythm education should be instrument-neutral. I think there are only two key elements: One is a good set of exercises that progressively teaches you new things, slowly raising the bar, making sure that each exercise only adds a small challenge. The other key element is a slow pace. Test on a beginner what's the tempo they can digest a new exercise. I think that's really crucial. Some of the stuff I had to learn at a snail's pace (e.g.: 52bpm), yet now I have no problem playing it at a fun tempo (eg: 170bpm). Let me know if I can help you with anything!
Usually that jam is played in a 3 rhythm timing(think Elvis's cover).... maybe, it's called 3/4...right here he played in an even timing like 2 or 4. I'm not too technical but I can hear a difference, lol.
