I have been working with Windows (as a Microsoft MVP) for decades, and never knew this verbose command even existed. I just set it with GPedit. Thank YOU, Joe!
Normal users don't tend to need specific messages like this. It use to be specific by default but around win2000 it was changed to be generic. Think of how a Linux boot sequence looks compared to Windows or Mac.
also i know you havent been spending years of your life looking for this one windows setting. you probably tried looking for it like once a few years ago, and tried again like a year ago, which kinda counts as been looking at it for years.
Because they were under development and devs want to know what's going on if something fails, and the devs thinks the average user wants only to know that it is booting... Which is partially true, but I think that if they get used to see those messages they will just ignore them, and then we all win
Fairly sure windows wouldn't know about why something caught on fire, since if it did it would try to prevent it before hand by under-clocking whatever component was overheating.
i have used winaerotweaker and this key for as long as i can remember, i use this key in every installation of windows starting from windows 2k, it’s very handy
yeah this is pretty useful. back when i daily drove windows winaero tweaker was one of the programs i would always install and this was one on the settings i would turn on.
You can do it from group policy editor which can be enabled in home editions of windows with a small line of code turned into a batch file. Called "Highly detailed status messages"
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this issue! Sometimes I'll shut down my laptop and it will just stay for hours, so I hold down the power button and when I turn it back on, after it recovers or whatever, *then* it'll tell me that it was updating without saying so or warning me it was going to! The shutdown button said nothing about an update 😡😫
This would have saved me so many headaches with a laptop that became nearly unusable from how much it was hanging on startup and shutdown. It should be on by default
If you're a Windows Pro Edition user you don't need to use WinAero Tweaker just follow these steps 1) Click Start and search for "Edit group policy" 2) Expand Computer Configuration then Administrative Templates and then click System 3) In the right pane double-click Display highly detailed status messages (It will be at the bottom) 4) Click Enabled and then OK 5) Close Local Group Policy Editor and then click OK You also might be able to do this on Home Editions but I don't know I don't think they have access to Local Group Policy Editor
Joe, there are many people having issues when they shut down their windows Pc, most of the time app calls "t" show up and prevent the shutdown process. Is there a way to know what is this app and how to fix the issue?
I have this feature enabled because I find it useful, but the main thing I use WinAero Tweaker for is disabling Windows telemetry services. I like having the verbose feature on (and other features) because I like knowing what my computer's actually doing and not having it try to simplify things and treat me like a noob in the way Windows 10 does.
I have this exact problem. I activated verbose messages and while it does give me some detail as to what's happening, there comes a point where nothing else is said and is stuck shutting down for a long time. Same with restarting. Any help?
@@BlueyTheProtogen Unless it changed since October when I went back to Windows, it's much harder to game on with limited support for certain ones like Destiny 2

well it comes originally by default in a unofficial windows version called windows 11 lite but i didnt know you can enabled it on the official windows 11
This program can be dangerous! One of the main reasons is that microsoft can change things in newer updates that make the settings in winAero not work correctly and you can destroy windows. I have experienced this. One setting worked, After win update the setting didn't work like it did
It's done that two times, one time I woke up to it stuck on saying restarting and I didn't know why at all, and another time (the same day), it was stuck on saying shut down when I tried to shut it down on lock screen. So I just held down the power button for 10 secs until I heard the computer fully shut off both times and then it was fine
I’m hoping this will, display something useful when my PC randomly restarts for no apparent reason. Event Viewer logs are useless for helping me pin point the issue. The few errors recorded, I’ve followed most if not all suggestions and it keeps happening. does it also tell you what is happening when it is stuck on "updating windows don't turn of you computer" ?

I think it is in windows server editions (well when I restart it says a lot of stuff)

@Confined Spiral Possibly. There are other OS's, and they could've changed platforms too. Could be using a Mac.

Great tip! I've been wanting that for some time! Im actually using win that tweaker but i didn't explore it all yet.
Good video, but it will be better if you show how to enable in registers instead of installing another software for doing this.
I do show where it is in the registry. If you don't know how to change it based on that, you are probably better off not messing with the registry.
