I hope they are best in class for crash safety. Because the Tundra has been very terrible in crash testing for the it’s entire run up to this point. The gas mileage is pretty bad too, especially for a half ton truck. I hope they upgrade the toothpick axles also.
Ford had their issue with the F150 super cab not having the tire deflector steel members installed with the supercab but did with the super crew cab with corresponding poor and excellent results. Ford added these and the super cab truck then did well in the overlap crash testing. Toyota never or only recently installed these simple metal parts that keep the front tires from entering the cab causing horrible leg injuries. Look at the crash testing results! I think it is crazy that a company could build a full size truck that does worse then the same company’s smaller cars in crash testing! Don’t tell me how reliable your truck is if it can’t survive a serious crash and instead folds up like a beer can!
IIHS crash test of a 2019 Toyota Tundra scored “Poor” in overlap crash testing. So for 12+ years Toyota did nothing to the truck structure to make it safer knowing this newer test was coming and people’s lives were at stake! Toyota learned little from their past safety debacles!

The Tacoma already has power outlets in the bed ans the Tundra will have a hybrid possibly even at launch so that will very likely have a generator function as well.
Well at least it looks... different still though I really wish the 5.7l stayed, yes yes I know the TTv6 will prolly be just as powerful if not more so and just as reliable etc etc
Bit its still just not the same
The latest tacoma engine 3.5 is not reliable at all. I am assuming is the same v6 they will be using.
@@relicaro21 why do you say it’s not reliable
At least it’s not a I4 or not yet hopfulley
@@emeryk5227 because i am a Toyota technician, the 4.0 was the best tacoma engine. Reliable and had power. 3.0 sucked, 3.4 sucked and the 3.5 sucks. 3.0 and 3.4 were reliable but no power and too much maintenance. The 3.5 with its direct inject syatem and the redesign engine came out with a lot of issues. Obviously that was in 2017 but the issues continued, Toyota stopped making good vehicles since 2006 everything made after that became poorly made. The tundra is still good because is the same engine from those years.
@@relicaro21 when did Toyota use 3.0?
I thought it was cool until I heard V6 and mild hybrid system
What's wrong with that? It's better performance
@@Mako32 maybe only in mpg you can easily make NA V8s with more horsepower and torque than a turbo v6 and you won’t have turbo lag and reliability problems turbos bring with them. There’s a reason there are so many million mile tundras why fix something that ain’t broke. Then when you add a mild hybrid system it’s just more electrical junk to go wrong.
@@joejohnson8159 Toyota knows how to make hybrids reliable. Turbos are at this point pretty tried and true. What NA V8 in a half-ton is actually more powerful than ford's 3.5 liter ecoboost? Last I check the f-150 with the v6 has the highest towing capacity in the half-ton truck market.
@@joejohnson8159 you're living in the 2000s bro. Turbos engines are getting better. Companies need to keep up with the times and competition. Maybe if they had a turbo v6 diesel it'll probably sell a lot better but with how the world is right now with emissions rules getting more and more strict, it was only a matter of time.
That’s more than enough to go to Starbucks and HD, what’s the big deal?
You cannot update the perfect truck. Whatever they did it wasn’t going to be better than the last model.
They could fix the cheesy frame and that would be a huge improvement
Of course you can. Needs better mpg and much higher payload for sure to be a "perfect" truck

I feel sorry for americans when they cant have a hilux
I would 100 times rather have a Tacoma.
Hey Toyota!! Can we get a real heavy duty Tundra? 3/4 ton and 1 ton dually and a diesel option?
Won't happen. Toyota has a brand for real trucks called Hino and they could use that knowledge for an American HD truck but they won't because they're lame.
Crew cab with a 6.5’ bed would sell a dump load more trucks. Toyota has been pushing more people to the F-150, including myself, who want a family truck with a useful bed.
That's what I don't like about their crew cab, bed is too small and it doesn't look good combined with that big cab and front nose
6.5' bed should be standard on all full-size trucks.
@@Togged - nope. They sell way more 5 foot beds still. I really do appreciate that it is your taste and respect that. I find the crew cab and 6.5 foot bed is just too big for off-road use. The break over angle is brutal. Needs too much of a lift to compensate and doesn’t corner as well in tight scenarios. When you have a family to fill the cab though, I can see how the 5 foot bed can be too small. I still prefer a SuperCab, or extended cab so all brands are taken into account and the 6.5 ft bed. I don’t have kids though,,,,,,. Currently driving a F150 SuperCrew PoweBoost Hybrid. Love the 7.2 kw out back for camping and have been using it since January!!
I think Toyota will bring out a CrewCab with a 6.5 ft bed later in the model year. The 5 ft bed is still their bread and butter and will be for years to come. You will get your wish, I’m sure.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
there is rumors that this truck along with sequoia 4runner and tacoma will all be using a brand new chassis developed for their san antonio plant (where the trucks are built now). this chassis, in order to accommodate to the different sized trucks, will be made in pieces (absolutely forgot the name), so a long bed tundra is a possibility
I'm just hoping it'll actually be an original redesign. So far I'm seeing Silverado headlights, ford engine, Tacoma body & wheels & and who knows if it'll be a Ram interior type of thing. Idk...
Lol. So true. I doubt it will dominate over the chevy silverado. Looks like they leaned more towards what the EPA wants out of the engines, and towards the silverado hype
At first everyone will hate it. But then everyone will love it. Same shit every time.
I hope they are best in class for crash safety. Because the Tundra has been very terrible in crash testing for the it’s entire run up to this point. The gas mileage is pretty bad too, especially for a half ton truck. I hope they upgrade the toothpick axles also.
The Tundra will shred an F150 in a head on crash. It’s still the safer truck.
Ford had there issues with the 150
Ford had their issue with the F150 super cab not having the tire deflector steel members installed with the supercab but did with the super crew cab with corresponding poor and excellent results.
Toyota’s newer vehicles do very well in crash tests
IIHS crash test of a 2019 Toyota Tundra scored “Poor” in overlap crash testing. So for 12+ years Toyota did nothing to the truck structure to make it safer knowing this newer test was coming and people’s lives were at stake! Toyota learned little from their past safety debacles!
This truck will have to be revolutionary for me to buy it, since apparently it won’t have a V8.
Japanese engineers are way smarter than Americans for sure, Toyota will bring a decent Turbo V6
Toyota killed the tundra if they kill the 5.7 v-8
They say new styling has to grow on you over time. I may need a lot of time for that front end styling

It actually towed better than the previous 5.0 my dad had. It also makes most of it torque low down. I will miss the V8 in the Tundra. They really should keep it as an option. It will probably be the most reliable turbo charged V6 on the market and that could take sales away from ford.

No v8 I’m out. Not everyone wants a turbo gas engine. Just another component to break. If your towing a lot makes more sense but v8 are now getting 17-19 mpg. That’s not much less then turbo v6 get if there even getting better.
Terrible. No V8 and still has wheels and suspension for a "mid size vehicle". Just terrible. Go large Toyota!
Better mpg and good turning radius are more important. I don’t like standing in the rain constantly filling a vehicle with gas or the inability to bust a quick uturn.
I HATE 20” or larger wheels. The tires are way to expensive, ride horribly, and are worse in mud, ice, and snow. 17” are perfect. I have 17” on my Silverado and BFG’s are only $120 each

It sounds like everyone complaining in this comment section is buying a truck for what others think about the truck they bought. You're telling me that you'd rather buy 2 extra cylinders for the sound it makes than saving a potential $10000+ of the fuel savings over the time you have the vehicle or a warranty runs out, and not to mention the torque specs will be higher at way less than half the rpms of the current model? Or rather even greater than that and competition with a battery package that than has increased savings and a warranty that pair with it? Sounds like I'll have more options to choose from when I'm ready to buy one
I bought the 2020 because of the V8. Lol, I bought a truck knowing it wasn't going to save me $.
