Claire, the flavor of this apple pie was incredible! It will be my new go-to. It set just right, no soggy bottoms, and the sweet/tart/spice was well balanced and allowed the taste of apple to shine! I was also a big fan of the crumble topping :) such a versatile topping for future bakes. I rarely comment, but this was a gem of a recipe. Thanks!
I like to let the apples sit in the sugar coating and release some juices for 30 minutes then reduce the syrup to add an almost caramel like flavour before putting them into the shell. Also helps reduce the risk of a soggy crust :)
@@ElleAlexandria thank you! 😊 I skip the cornstarch at first, let the apples sit in the sugar and cinnamon, then reduce the syrup by half and then mix it back in the apples with the cornstarch.
I kept thinking “if she posts all her recipes no one’s gonna buy the book”! But then I realized that this is an amazing business move. Yes, book sales might slow down just a little bit but even then the videos will make constant revenue. Rather than one hundred thousand book sales, she can has that many views and even more over time. It’s honestly genius. And also providing a more visual aid for her recipes. It’s all literally perfect.
Made this right away! Just swapped vinegar with lemon juice. Also added some nutmeg and a little clove. The sweetness is spot-on. The crust, flaky as ever (ugh good pie takes a long time to cook). The crumble, what a lifesaver! Not doing lattices again. Thanks, Claire, for this recipe. Even my mom, who doesn't like cinnamon, loved this pie! 🍎❤
Crumble is always delightful on an apple pie. It is just the BEST way to make apple pie. I will never double crust again. This is so delicious. I ramp up my apple pie by adding cranberries - I like the tart contrast-, and a bit more spice (she is a bit low on the spice, in my opinion) I add cardamom, more cinnamon, allspice, ginger and then cover it with the crumble. I will try her pie crust. I don't think you can ever over spice the apples. That's me, though. Apples can take a lot as can cranberries. It just makes it more amazing. Seriously. I live on an orchard, with some of the original pippin tart apples from Johnny Appleseed (or John Chapman if you follow history), and you must use TART apples, like Granny Smith or pippins or other green apples. Don't go to sweet apples like Macintosh... (I would like her to comment about that). They aren't baking apples. Apples, like all fruits, caramelize in the oven, so you need to take that into account that they do that while baking, so they get sweeter in the oven.
I always liked Alton Brown's idea of mixing sugar with the apples to draw out some of the moisture. This helps prevent dome collapse, which isn't an issue here but still a nice thought for other pies.
I baked this pie yesterday in preparation for today, and it was absolutely incredible. I've never made a pie before, and I really appreciate what an exceptional teacher Claire is. I felt so accomplished enjoying this pie with my family today, and could hardly believe I was the one that made it! lol So thankful!
I created this pie for the second time for Fourth of July. The first time I did it, I couldn’t taste it because I lost my tastebuds after COVID. This second time, I appreciated all the flavor from the crust, crumble, and apples. It’s the best apple pie I have tasted. Thank you for creating recipes that showcase the fruit and don’t drench it with loads of sugar.

My whole family was raving about it at dessert time. Thanks Claire, Queen of Desserts!!
I've made this pie before and everyone, including me, loved it! The ACV accentuates the tart filling flavor and the topping is just amazing. Granola is the perfect pairing to apples.
My daughter and I did this filling with a lattice top crust this year and I absolutely will be making my filling this way for the rest of my life and so will she and her kids after that I'm sure. It was a big hit at my family gathering this year. I absolutely will try it soon with the crumble topping soon as well.

They are fun to make! I used to get intimidated/overwhelmed by them lol I get that way with most things involving dough but once I just make myself jump in and do it, it almost always turns out fine. Every once in a while it doesn't but even then it's a great learning experience. I just made this and I think this is the best apple pie I have ever had in my life. Claire you are a baking goddess ily for this. This pie makes me emotional 🥹🥹
Adding apple slices around the bottom edge. Why didnt I think of that? Brilliant! I always enjoy watching your dessert person episodes. I always learn something new. Apple pie story: some years ago, I was alone in the house, making an apple pie. When it was ready and bubbly hot, I carefully pulled it out and turned around to put the pie on the cooling rack on the counter. My bro in law was on the other side, looking at my pie and commenting how good it smeled. He showed up out of nowhere. I almost dropped the pie! He pops up anytime I am making a pie. I have concluded that he has pie radar!
Regarding apple scraps : when making apple pie, I like to boil them in some water in order to extract as much pectin, sugar and flavour as possible. Once everything has completely collapsed, I strain and return the liquid to the rinsed out pan and simmer until think and viscous. I add the liquid to the sliced apples and slightly reduce the amount of corn starch I use. The filling is more more luscious and silky when I do that, and less stodgy or gloopy.
So I just baked this pie. Currently eating it, I love it warm but I know for tomorrow it’ll be so much better. Yes, just make it! will not disappoint. Thank you Claire! *chefs kiss*

@@arnoldspirags9995 Sounds lovely. We have two Dorset trees, which I believe hail from England; even an EIN Shemer from Israel! You should try making a Dutch apple pie! It's the best there is - if you ask me Maybe a series on different pies from all over the world? That would be amazing.
I also accidentally used apple cider vinegar in the apple tart. I realized it halfway through, drained some of the mix, and added back mango apricot juice to boil down because that was all I had. It worked!
Sorry if I missed this but can you explain why you don't prebake the crust with weights/beans here but you do in many other of your pastry recipes? I love the cabin videos! Thanks.
It depends on the bake time of the pie. A fruit pie that cooks for a long time will have enough time in the oven to cook the crust. A custard type pie won't cook long enough to cook the crust.
This is the best apple pie I've ever made or tasted! I recommend a larger pebble size crumb, mine was a fine crumb and I wish I'd had more to sink my teeth into. Thanks, Claire!

I took the easy way and used already made pie dough lol But still, it was sooo yummy! I’m gonna use this for years to come. Thank you!!
Vanilla is key. I started adding that to fruit pies a couple year ago and it makes a huge difference in flavor.
MY FAVORITE PIE!!! but only second to cutie pie claire 🥰
Also, can we talk about how AMAZING and CHARMING that intro is?? Captures Claire’s essence and personality perfectly! 💥🌹
*chefs kiss*
finally my favorite video on youtube is up
the editor putting faces on stuff is truly my favorite part of these videos
Yuuuummm! I would love to see Claire's version of a raspberry blackberry pie!!!❤
We need to appreciate the editors more. Because at 10:40 I was SHOOK! Like “CLAIRE, THERE’S A FOX! YOUR CHICKENSSSS!”
And then at 10:48 I saw Big Bessy.
I made this pie for a coworker's birthday. It was surprisingly easy, came out of the oven looking beautiful and tasted amazing. I will definitely be making this again! Thanks Claire.
I just love the editing of these videos
I highly appreciate the ingredient list in the beginning ❤
I already committed to making the pumpkin pie for thanksgiving this year...but now I also want to make apple pie! This is such a difficult decision. Great video!
Yay!! So glad you are getting sponsors now. Congrats guys
Love the snowfall effect in the window. ❄️ 🌨
This looks so good! And we just harvested some fresh apples from our garden! Definitely will try!
Nice! What kind of trees do you have?
@@TheBereangirl I don't live in the US, but in Europe so we have different varieties. We grow Renet Burhardta. They're pretty tasty on their own.
@@arnoldspirags9995 Sounds lovely. We have two Dorset trees, which I believe hail from England; even an EIN Shemer from Israel! We have also managed to squeeze in some of the standard apple varieties that are available in our box stores in our small yard thanks to espalier and semi dwarf varieties. Enjoy your harvest!☺️
You should try making a Dutch apple pie! It's the best there is - if you ask me
Maybe a series on different pies from all over the world? That would be amazing.
I also accidentally used apple cider vinegar in the apple tart. I realized it halfway through, drained some of the mix, and added back mango apricot juice to boil down because that was all I had. It worked!
How did you know I was googling dutch apple pie recipes last night? I have 4 batches of your pie dough in my freezer ready for pie season!
The Fox and the Cow are great! Keep them coming!
Anyone else having a good day?
It’s gonna be a great day! I’m making apple pie, how could it be bad? :)
Claire and her team really turn out incredibly quality videos.
Word of advice: Spill the vanilla into whatever you’re making. Just spill it, especially if it’s pure vanilla extract.
Now that is an apple pie with attitude 😍😍 it looks amazing Claire and I love the oat topping. Fantastic, thank you as always
This is the best apple pie I've ever made or tasted! I recommend a larger pebble size crumb, mine was a fine crumb and I wish I'd had more to sink my teeth into. Thanks, Claire!
I made this pie today , and its one of the most delicious and rich dish I have ever had. Thank you Claire ❤
I am....one of those people who used apple cider vinegar in the apple tart.....but it was good then i made again correctly and it was amazing and it's still one of my favorite recipes
Ok, made this last night for a belated thanksgiving dinner, and it was a huge success. Everyone loved it. My first apple pie with home made crust and it was not hard at all. I couldn’t believe I made it when I tasted it! Thank you Claire! Oh, the only difference in my recipe was the apples. My neighbor gave me a bunch of Arkansas Black apples, sweet and tart and excellent for pies.
My eleven year old decided to make this pie for our Thanksgiving, and I think it has become her fave. My son in law has now requested it for his birthday this month.
I really love Claire and this team more with each video. Claire with the chickens! And the face when Vinny told her people reported using apple cider vinegar instead of apple cider in her apple tart, lol.
Hi Claire! I will also be baking my pie the night before Thanksgiving, but I know my family always likes to eat it warm! Any tips on the best way to re-warm/reheat? I don't want to overbake in the oven, and don't want to lose the crispy topping by microwaving.
bake for slightly less time (10 minutes or so) the night before, and the night of reheat at 375 f for 15-20 minutes!
I love a crumble topping! makes it so much lighter
