- In the pilot episode of the beloved science / adventure show, seen by millions worldwide, professional meteorite hunters Geoff Notkin and Steve Arnold journey to their top secret site - code named "Alpha" - to search for pallasite meteorites that are packed with actual gemstones from outer space. A second expedition takes them to the legendary Brenham, Kansas strewnfield where they make a truly amazing discovery. A visit to the Center for Meteorite Studies at Arizona State University provides a scientific analysis of their finds. The first "Meteorite Men" adventure ends at the Gemological Institute of America in California, where the Steve and Geoff learn that their space rock discoveries contain something so rare and valuable, it has never before been seen in a meteorite.

I remember watching your show repeatedly as a kid - I can pretty much quote it! It made me passionate for space and gemstones. Now I'm at uni studying in a similar field!

I got a meteorite from the guys way back when. I'm a rockhound. I plotted an area in a nearby state to search, & from watching these shows, I'll know how to search..

Hi. I really enjoy watching your channel. I am heading for a holiday to Xiyuan meteorite crater in China. I plan to organize a stargazing event in there and as a part of daily activities I would like to do meteorite hunt for kids. As an educational field trip and space awareness. But I have never hunted for meteorites and I don't know what to look for. Can you offer some tips? Will there be any meteorites in the crater or should I look outside? I would also like to show the geological layer with the mark when it happened.
So im curious if you have made finds in arizona or new mexico high deserts. I was pre dawn hunting coyotes with my brother in August. We watched a meteor fly literally over our head not a flash of light or one breaking up nearby. I mean it was getting light but maybe 20 min from sun up we saw it watched it. We had seen many other meteors breaking up that morning and we got out there at 4 am when it was dark. It was leaving a very thin smoke trail with no wind so i was able climb a hill and see it went down what appeared a few maybe 4 miles away. It was around 1000-2000 ft above us or less and was flying by at an incredible speed absolutely silently. At a suprisingly flat trajectory but clearly downwards headed northwest and covered the entire visible sky in seconds southeast to north west, i spotted it very early by chance was looking south when it came into view. I watch small aircraft fly over all the time and ive been around mountains and airplanes my whole life. I know what a plane at a couple thousand ft flying low looks like. This was that altitude or lower. It is a very remote area no neighbors to the north west just a giant cattle ranch and a huge rim/bluff. The meteor just cleared that by 500ft or so and went out into the valley. Landed down there. As fast as it was moving it could have easily cleared many miles before landing but just saying i watched it nearly til it impacted and even after the thin trail it left seemed to fade but also pointed the way to where it landed. I want to find that mf. It was big prolly several ft aross tho hard to gauge moving that fast. Anyways awesome show between seeing that meteor that morning and this show appearing on my feed lol must be meant to be.
Do you Americans know that in South Africa is the most comprehensive meteorite site on the planet? Vredefort Dome is smack bang in the middle of the country. You’ll have a ball here!
I've always wanted to visit Vredefort! I have seen many of the world's craters, but not that one. I do have some impactites from Vredefort in my collection. The impact is so old that no meteorites remain -- they have weathered away over the millions of years -- but their "footprint" is still visible in the crater and the altered terrestrial rock. In southern Somalia there is huge iron nickel meteorite half buried in the ground. The locals used it as knife sharpener. They call it the devil's stone. You can clearly see the metal shine and magnets sticks to it.
I'd love to see a photo of that if you happen to have one!

I have been wondering that all these years, and still haven't been given a good explanation. It was so odd. Steve also found an old engine block buried in a nearby field. Why would someone go to the trouble?
Hi Jack and Steve, Thank you for your videos. Can you give me an advice, pls? I found an ugly surfaced stone up to the moutain, which is weakly magnetic but I can feel this obviously. Especially, this rock may make a change on a compass which my other stones did not work. Will be honored if i can send you a video via email. Tks and Good luck, Guys

It usually takes a practiced eye and a lot of experience to identify a meteorite and we have been asked many, many times to assist (which we're glad to do). It's often not possible to give an accurate opinion without examining a rock in person, and I think it's easiest to show, rather than tell, what to look for in an authentic meteorite. Since I receive so many inquiries and because I want to assist finders of suspected space rocks, I've created a variety of free and paid resources:

I read some things and then they say it's from a meteorite strike..on satellite it looks suspicious on my weather channel radar app is where I found it and it looks artificial...and the Meteorite men never mention it...please help a long time subscriber to understand this

So they find 2 meteorites which "could be" worth over $100,000 a piece in a farmers' planted field but only spend one day there. ONE DAY! Then two, one 33 lbs, one109 lbs, each containing "something never seen before". Olivene crystals. They're using a metal detector they made out of PVC that keeps falling apart even though they could have one made out of Titanium and still have enough to buy a Hummer to tow it with. Does any of this add up? Am I going to watch the next episode? Fucking right I am!

just a suggestion ,you could try mailing a tiny flake of your specimen to the GEO DEPT at UMKC, the people there have a electron microscope & take a photo of positive nickle test you can buy from ebay & include with it good luck
