  • Millennium Fire (ミレニアムファイア) is a rather unconventional light gun shooter that was being developed by Bandai for release on the Sega Saturn. Despite being very close to completion, it was cancelled just prior to its planned August 27, 1998 release date. No reason was ever given. No prototype has ever leaked.
In this video, Producer Fuyuki Nishizawa reveals numerous details about the game, including its unique control scheme that grants the player complete freedom of movement using only the Virtua Gun.

    Never knew this existed.
Thank you for sharing this rare footage and translating it sir.

This looks pretty awesome! It's kinda kludgy to try and do full controls with a light gun, but they had some clever ideas, and I know I would've loved something like this back then.

Thank you very much for this video and the translation, a big shame this game never was released. We would all love to tray this game someday...

Too bad it never came out!

Who knows. Maybe there's a prototype floating around out there that hasn't been made public yet.

Judging by the quality of gameplay in that video I'm certain there is a prototype somewhere!
Here's hoping one day we get to see it!!!
      I love your videos!
      I love the Saturn!

Hopefully! And thanks. I enjoy making them. Wish I could do more of these sorts, but collaborating with the right people is always difficult.

Superficially it kind of reminds me of Enemy zero, not sure if the control scheme would have been very intuitive but it certainly looked like it would have been interesting.

It probably would have been somewhat clunky, but it might have worked well enough.

Very nice use of 3D in this game! The alarm sound is familiar. It's the same sound that you hear in Sol Feace for the Sega CD. :)

That same alarm sound is in Sonic Adventure 2

Interesting. Not sure if you can, but you may wanna make the subtitles a different color, they are very difficult to see in white. I hope all is well bro =)

No, there's nothing I can do about that. Subtitles are usually white though.

I had the same problem with them white on white... you can change that to whatever you like under the gear icon.

Richard Craig They should be set to white on black by default. Interesting.

This is a game I would have liked, had it come out. Shame, I remember reading some things about this in my usual scowering of all things SEGA, came up a few times. Not that I could read what was said hahaha.

There are a lot of things related to the Saturn that just aren't very well documented in English. It's nice to be able to shine a light on a few of these every once and a while. Wish I could do it more often.

Would be nice yeah, but whatever you can do is enough for me, like with this.

***** Since I don't speak Japanese myself, collaboration is always going to be the big issue. I've been very lucky to have worked with some outstanding fans to get these and past videos released. I still have plenty more videos like these, but it's either going to take more goodwill from the community or a fair amount of cash before they're made accessible to everyone.

Yeah, true. Do what you can I say.

Everything you've shared with the community thus far has been greatly appreciated by many I'm sure. This, for example, looks like a refreshing approach to a relatively stale genre, and its unfortunate they cancelled it.

If cancelled for Saturn failure(in my opinion this was the reason...)...why don't do this on Dreamcast? It could be another killer application even as Shenmue,Skies of Arcadia or Sonic Adventure...another innovative thing that only Sega can create at time...

    • @SaturnMemories

Unlikely. Bandai never published a single Saturn game outside of Japan. The Saturn was successful within Japan.
