There is a feature in both versions of Daytona 2 that has a "live feed" of the race you are racing on. It can only be accessed via linking two arcade machines and having one of them set to "live". The live feed plays out like a commentary of a stock car race, in fact the Power Edition of the Beginner course even has pit lane interviews.
It's DAYTONA USA 2's 20th Anniversary next year as well, highly doubt SEGA will do anything about that by porting the game for it's 20th knowing what SEGA are like these days, would be a big surprise if they actually did. The new DAYTONA Championship USA they made is an absolute disgrace and an insult to the DAYTONA USA series and isn't a true sequel to the first game like this one is. This and Scud Race should never be forgotten.
Sega did create a Scud Race tech demo for DC back in 1998 or 1999. Never did anything with it other than show it off to third-party devs. Would be nice if we could get home ports for modern consoles/PC before Makoto Osaki retires.

This sequel is fantastic! I think I remember playing this game at Chuck E. Cheese's many years ago, but I honestly can't remember right now. I wish this game was released for the PC, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Sony PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Sony PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, and the Microsoft Xbox. Edit (09/07/2018): Now I remember! I played this game at Chuck E. Cheese's, but I'm still not sure what version of this arcade game it was.
There would have been no way it could have got to the N64. Sega was still competing with their Saturn and Dreamcast console against Nintendo. Also the Saturn cant handle this much polygons I think. Even if they did they would have to do it like the Saturn port of Daytona USA. All the other options were possible though. I honestly think why the game could not get any ports because the Model 3 was way to powerful to the point current-gen consoles of that time couldn't handle their extreme polygon count.
It's one of the things I remember the most. I was barely able to keep my car straight. Everytime you get bumped from the side in the beginner course the steering wheel goes nuts. But as an older man now I really appreciate the work they have done. When I re-explored the game with my own force feedback wheel on an emulator, it's amazing how the wheel reacts when you go into a slide and it's so satisfying when you fight the wheel to stay in the slide and then you countersteer to exit the slide.
Differences between Battle On The Edge vs Power Edition: The Beginner stage's environment is different between versions. In Battle On The Edge, the track was situated inside the biodome arena full of waterfalls, forests and flower field known as the Forest Island Speedway or Forest Dome Speedway. In Power Edition, it was changed into an open air NASCAR oval track known as the Sega International Speedway. The Easy Level Car or the Chevrolet Monte Carlo's paint job or brand sponsorship was changed. In Battle On The Edge, it was the Chums Sugarless Gums and it has Parrot Jellybeans fictional product placements on the car. In Power Edition, it was changed into JC Eagle with the word Tactics on the hood. The Sega Am2 logo appears on the attract mode in Power Edition. The flame lighting on both title screen and the loading screen are different in between versions, In Battle On The Edge, it has orange flames. In Power Edition, it was changed into blue flames. The fonts between versions are different in terms of sizes especially on the words "Sega Presents The Heat is Back". The attract mode on both versions are different on between versions. In Battle On The Edge, it shows short video clips of all three driving on all of the three tracks and the words "Dangerous Over 200 MPH Battle" and "You Can Slingshot." In Power Edition, it added the cutscene on the player's crew team and only shows the entirety of the race such as clashing with another car and crashes. The Crew Chief speaks very often in Power Edition. The Hornet High Class Gallop Racing car is now available for free in Power Edition with the original Daytona USA physics retained. Unlike, in Battle On The Edge, you must entered the correct code in order to unlock it. The Challenge Mode was added in Power Edition. It's a race to the finish without breaks against the time limit where all of the three tracks are used. The commentary between the crew chief and a driver of the crashed car was added in Power Edition during the live camera mode.

In Power Edition, The pit stop commentary is now added during the live feed such as talking with the player's crew chief or a driver of the crashed car.
The drift is extremely satisfying here, look at those skids! Awesome drive, there. Also, now that I noticed it, the "Mach" level meter in Sonic Mania's special stage looks like the tachometer in this game. Not quite sure if it's coincidence or not...
David Lewis of Saturnology was the first person I saw who recognized this. It's probably not a coincidence. Both gauges serve a similar function (building up until you can reach a higher gear) and there are a number of other Daytona references in the game.
I normally love SEGA Super GT/SCUD Race, and I enjoyed Daytona USA; but I learned to appreciate Daytona USA 2 seeing this video and similar videos. Probably wished I played Daytona USA 2 more. This is an excellent game of a crazy racing game like "Daytona USA 2!"
After playing Daytona 1 I got DiRT 5 (it being arcadey and all) and it just doesn't compare to the speed and intensity of Daytona. Went straight back to Daytona after an hour or two/three. It's definitely not bad don't get me wrong but man Daytona is just so excellent!
It was, simply because of the hardware it was made for. The Model 3 (I think Daytona USA 2 used the 2.1 version), was leaps and bounds superior to anything on the consumer market in its time and for many years, specially if we look at consoles.
I still don’t get why they removed the biodome aspect of the beginner track in the power edition. It’s much cooler than the plain open air circuit in my opinion
It's a family biz, the number 41. The Hard-Level Phantom Car is driven by Mick Brown. The Easy-Level Chums Gum/J.C Eagle Car is driven by Noel Brown. And the cover car, the Normal-Level Scorpio Batteries Car, is piloted by Jonny Brown.
The attention to detail on the cars is something that doesn't get talked about enough. Namely, I'm referring to the noses. In the first game, they were all 1990 Chevrolet Luminas, but in this game, they're clearly based on the actual cars that ran in the Winston Cup Series in 1997. The Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Ford Thunderbird, and Pontiac Grand Prix are easily recognizable. As for the Phantom car, I have no idea what this is supposed to be. The Internet Game Cars Database lists it as a Ford Thunderbird, but this looks NOTHING like a '97 Thunderbird.
Most impressive, Saturn Memories! You hit these courses pretty damn well with the Gamepad. A little bit of a nitpick (and it probably isn't even your fault), but the crew chief is so hard to heard in Power Edition. Maybe that's because the audio is geared for the more traditional experience within the game's seat? Anyhow, it doesn't take any of my enjoyment away from this video. Excellent driving!
Bah, there's no worry! Like I said, doesn't ruin the experience for me. :^P I did get a chuckle out of how clearly you could hear him in BOTE, though. He makes me think of Hal's voice actor from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
Sega is doing a disservice to everyone by not selling arcade perfect translations of all their AM2 games. Its a perfect way to take advantage of nostalgia and getting this out now while all of us 80s and 90s kids still have fond memories. Sega has done some great genesis re-releases its time for these. Please Sega,
Amazing!!! That was such a clean race, you only sustained two collisions throughout the race, and the car didn't get any dent, which is difficult to pull off with NPC cars in the way
Released in 1998, Sega AM2's only true sequel to Daytona USA used the more powerful Sega Model 3 board (Model 3 Step 2.1 in Battle on the Edge and Power Edition's case). Despite a handful of Model 3 arcade games being ported to Dreamcast and Wii (with the exception of the Scud Race tech demo), Daytona USA 2 sadly wasn't one of them. It's a shame that Sega AM Ishoku (Convert) Team never got around porting Model 3 titles to modern consoles before scattering back to Sega's various internal development teams. The closest Daytona USA 2 got a console release was Power Edition's MIX/Challenge course appearing as a bonus track in the Xbox version of Sega AM2's 2003 racer OutRun 2, but even then the Japanese version had the bonus track closely resemble the arcade than the US release.
AlviEao the dreamcast couldn't handle it .you have to accept reality. OK you'll be a better person then .xbox was the only console that could do these back then and that was 2001
@@SaturnMemories That just hurts, goddamit they should just port this to newer consoles/Steam cause people like me are absolutely ACHING to play this again.
Another thing that is wrong is drifting. In real life, NASCARs just slow down to take the turn. But, in Daytona USA, you need to drift in order to take a turn.
You would think that the Expert course has at least some people watching, like come on, it's in a city! "Meh, another NASCAR race? Pass." - Citizens in that city, probably. :P
Ran fine (with some minor graphical errors like missing graphics for the stage select) on my i7 2600K/6GB 1060 rig, having to run it through command-line was somewhat cumbersome though.
Eh, you don't technically need to. Just edit the settings to your liking in the config file, and then click and drag the ROM file onto the emulator executable. No need to do anything in command prompt then.
If they had kept the forest dome in P.E. instead of a boring nascar oval, it'd be the definitive edition of the 2. But regardless, Daytona USA 2 will forever be my number one racing game, and it's been the best since I first saw it in 1998 as a 6 year old boy.
0.0 The Word "Bote" means in my german Language a Guy who delivers something to someone , but what means the Word "Bote" in the Sentence under the Video ?
Why are there two different versions of the first course? I thought it one was going to be "vanilla" Datyona USA 2 and the other "Power Edition", but the title screen says Power Edition on both.
9:19 Never seen the tumble cam before! So many innovations that modern trash games don't replicate. Thanks for sharing all this content - I often come back and put it on rotation. :)
Well, You will able to play it via "Like a Dragon : Gaiden" in game Arcade Machine. The name of the game changed from Daytona USA 2 to Sega Racing Classic 2 due to expired license contract of using "Daytona USA" name as the game title.
It's not hat hard. Just shift up just before the tachometer redlines. As for gear drifting, the 2011 PS3/360 port of Daytona USA has a training mode which can teach you how to do that. There are also some excellent tutorials on GameFAQs which will guide you through how to shift through every turn in the game. Same principles can be applied to the Hornet in Daytona USA 2: PE.
Yeah, for average people, it's really not hard to drive. Just move the gear-stick to the next gear when the tach-o-meter reaches 7+ RPMs. And to drift on manual, what I do is change gear to 3 (Or a lower gear if your speed isn't high enough) and flip it back to 4 (Or once again, a higher gear) and do the drifting thing, and you'll be good.
I've never played Power Edition in arcades (only BOTE), so I can't say with 100% certainty, but once you tweak certain settings in the Supermodel config file, it seems more or less the same. Gear drifting is definitely identical though. 4-1-3-4 or 4-2-4 work great through most turns.
That's a great choice! I'm personally a big fan of Slingshot myself, mostly because it's constantly pounding with energy. Dennis's vocals really sets the tone for the song!
@@SaturnMemories Haha nice, I thought I was the only one who liked Skyscraper Sequence the most. Although it's a pretty tough choice between that or Slingshot.

Bah, there's no worry! Like I said, doesn't ruin the experience for me. :^P I did get a chuckle out of how clearly you could hear him in BOTE, though. He makes me think of Hal's voice actor from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
woah actually the first time I see someone winning with the hornet car lol
Apparently from what ive read online this will be playable in yakuza the man who erased his own name (it releases in November)
This game is gorgeous, but it’s a bit underrated in my opinion.
Sega is doing a disservice to everyone by not selling arcade perfect translations of all their AM2 games. Its a perfect way to take advantage of nostalgia and getting this out now while all of us 80s and 90s kids still have fond memories. Sega has done some great genesis re-releases its time for these. Please Sega,
This is really cool! Thanks for sharing
5:23 GAME OVER.
Ah... I used to play it with dad... He passed away a few years ago. This game is so special to me 😢
10:26 somehow now its battle on the edge!
Courses
2:03 Three seven speedway
6:36 Astro waterfall speedway
11:06 Joyoplis 2020 Amusement park
16:14 Virtua city
22:18 Mix
That ain't 777 speedway
that's not 777 speedway. that's the Sega International Speedway (PE) Forest Dome Speedway (BOTE)
This is so nostalgia to me i played this when i child
That top class racing there.
I've got Japanese OutRun 2 on my Xbox 360 hard drive. A video is planned. :)
AlviEao the dreamcast couldn't handle it .you have to accept reality. OK you'll be a better person then .xbox was the only console that could do these back then and that was 2001
This looks better then the remake of 1 :)
Daytona Championship USA? Yeah, it does. And it's way better.
Hoping in the future
Sega will port this in the modern consoles
How in the hell did this NOT take off!?
I can remember the arcades around here starting to die off around the same time Daytona 2 came out. That probably had something to do with it.
@@SaturnMemories That just hurts, goddamit they should just port this to newer consoles/Steam cause people like me are absolutely ACHING to play this again.
@@sulejmaniapologist This E3 man or otherwise soon... SEGA get it done already!
Still looks amazing and it looks way over 60 fps
Awesome driving!
I agree; Saturn Memories drove like a pro!
Beautiful game. It's a real shame that saw doesn't convert model 2/3 games to Naomi for consoles.
This arcade game was my childhood
Is this on an emulator or the actual arcade cabinet? Either way, this game was an entire generation ahead of its time.
Damn, does this bring back memories...
Wasn't aware Sega Model 3 emulation was so mature. Must be running on a monster of a system to be running full speed.
i7-7700K + GTX-970. Not exactly modest, but not a monster build either.
I remember 1st time I played it in some arcade saloon.
Sega: *creates game that makes the original look like rascal racing
Also sega: we need to keep this game as far away from home consoles as possible
nascar*
「ヨーコ」 I meant rascal you uneducated bull squirt
@@dontcallmechris8677 butthurt
I never did play this. Played the first one alot and it was amazing at time of release along w Sega Super Gt.
If they had kept the forest dome in P.E. instead of a boring nascar oval, it'd be the definitive edition of the 2. But regardless, Daytona USA 2 will forever be my number one racing game, and it's been the best since I first saw it in 1998 as a 6 year old boy.
My second tied favorite game and I live how u waited just to hear the car selector theme Ike I do !:)
Fabulus driving...and also is 2019 and Model 3 still kicks ass
0.0 The Word "Bote" means in my german Language a Guy who delivers something to someone , but what means the Word "Bote" in the Sentence under the Video ?
An abbreviation for "Battle on the Edge." The video covers both versions of the beginner course.
I miss this game this one i played before playing wmmt
15:02 GAME OVER.
Would Game Cube have been able to run this game?
SEGA: no nascars were harmed during the making of this game.
Why are there two different versions of the first course? I thought it one was going to be "vanilla" Datyona USA 2 and the other "Power Edition", but the title screen says Power Edition on both.
It's just the way I've edited the video to make it appear seamless. Battle on the Edge does have it's own unique title screen.
@@SaturnMemories So the second version of the course in the video is actually from Battle on the Edge?
@@billmalt2602 Yes.
9:19 Never seen the tumble cam before! So many innovations that modern trash games don't replicate. Thanks for sharing all this content - I often come back and put it on rotation. :)
My childhood❤️❤️🙌
What would be badass if they made a new game where it had all the nascar drivers and their cars even like the past drivers cars.
That Expert track is way harder than the first game!
Nothing compared to the nightmare that is SCUD's Expert track though. That one's a spawn of satan.
DAYTONAAAAAAAAA
i need to play this game
X2
Well, You will able to play it via "Like a Dragon : Gaiden" in game Arcade Machine. The name of the game changed from Daytona USA 2 to Sega Racing Classic 2 due to expired license contract of using "Daytona USA" name as the game title.
0:50 guy jumps out of the tire
My Respect goes to all Gamers who can drive manually - =( I can't do that !
=) Thank You very much ,
i will have a look for it at GameFAQs - i love their Walkthroughs .
@@tony_mac24 I had to do everything on keyboard, the car was not nice reacting to this much response😂😂
Looking good
Try to go easy on the car
Great driving
That’s all the lines I know lol
Great soundtrack to this game. I just wish that the Model 2 had better audio hardware...
Playing this at a Chuck.E.Cheese in 2005 was awesome
Like a dragon gaiden……. Anybody?!??!?!?!?!?
Is there anyway to reliably drift using automatic transmission? Sometimes I seem like I have it down then other times I can't get it to drift.
Maravilha, maravilha, maravilha de jogo. Eu com esse jogo e street fighter 2 não precisaria de mais jogo nenhum!
Dude @00:51 just popped out of a tire… 👀
In someway daytona 2001 was a worthy (somewhat) reinterpretation of daytona 2
Does this car completely mirror the same driving physics in the original Daytona USA?
I've never played Power Edition in arcades (only BOTE), so I can't say with 100% certainty, but once you tweak certain settings in the Supermodel config file, it seems more or less the same. Gear drifting is definitely identical though. 4-1-3-4 or 4-2-4 work great through most turns.
Saturn Memories
Oh, whoops
I didn't specify the car
I meant only the Hornet Classic.
But yeah. I think you guessed the car right.
Thanks, anyway!
I figured that's what you meant.
Nice drifting 12:35
Alright, let me ask the MOST important question.
Favorite song from 2?
Skyscraper Sequence.
That's a great choice! I'm personally a big fan of Slingshot myself, mostly because it's constantly pounding with energy. Dennis's vocals really sets the tone for the song!
Slingshot. No Questions needed to be asked.
@@SaturnMemories Haha nice, I thought I was the only one who liked Skyscraper Sequence the most. Although it's a pretty tough choice between that or Slingshot.
They have this arcade in Sliven Shopping Mall.
Why this game did not get a Dreamcast port I'll never know¬!
That's really a mystery to me. :/
Would of looked good on the dreamcast or even a full restoration on the next gen consoles or even a steam release but idk?
R.I.P. SEGA :'(
