China Foster make sure you do lots of research before getting one 🙂 The lighting and some aspects of this set up aren’t quite right for a bearded dragon. UVB lights should be 3/4 of the length of the enclosure and inside so your lizard can benefit from it. No hate to this video, I think it’s a great start but people need to know to do proper research before getting a new pet.

Tile isn’t a good substrate, it doesn’t offer any burrowing enrichment (which is extremely important for beardies) and is hard on their joints. A suitable loose substrate such as a deep layer of a soil/playsand/clay mix is best.

Wish I could put fake plants in my near dies enclosure... I used to have tons in there until one day I saw her trying to munch on one of the plastic leafs. Some advice to new owners... cause I never see anyone address this in videos, but if you’re going to put plastic plants in the tank make sure you are monitoring your beardie. (This didn’t start being a problem for me till she was an adult) if you have this problem then replace to fake plants with real plants they can eat like cilantro. Also I want to add the timer he put in the video is pretty chill but if you want to control it from your phone if you’re away from the house i recommend getting the wyze plug so you can plug all your lights into it.
This is so funny😂 because it happened to me too! I even tried to put a fake cactus and let me tell you that was one of my most scariest encounters ever! The half of the cactus was down her throat and I was holding the other half forcing trying not to let her eat it, I was afraid she was gone bite me .. Till I was like if I don’t take the courage she gone die and I stop being afraid and took the cactus out her mouth. Never again!😂😂she’s currently 4 years old now.
This is helpful. I am taking care of a beardie who was someone else's, but they won't be able to take care if it for a few years. Thing is they used cat litter for the flooring. And I don't think its safe for it. Glad I found this video.
The minimum in the UK is 4ft x 2ft x 2ft (length x width x height) and the UK has better care standards than the US so I use that is the minimum. I personally keep my beardie in a 5ft x 2ft x 2ft and I wouldn't put her in anything smaller. A 40 gallon tank isn't even twice the length of an adult beardie. It's fine for a baby though. Also if you are using a coil/compact UVB you need to change it to a tube UVB. Coil/compact UVB lights do not give out enough UVB and can cause eye issues.
Important to have the correct UVB for beardies aswell. Murcury vapour UVB bulbs cause over exposure and are dangerous. An inside mounted T8 or on top of the screen T5 With reptisun 10.0 UVB Tube lights are essential and critical to their health. other than that I totally agree with everything in your video 😊 I love watching your channel.

I trained my dragon to not poop in his cage. It helped make him vey sweet and used to daily handling. I use a few different Tupperware big enough for him to turn while he is in the tub. I run a shower over him- the kind with massager that helps him REEELAX. I watch him lift his tail, he poops then I wash him well. Then I only have to bleach his tuppy and tub. I dump his poop directly in toliet of course. Boom clean cage. I only have one whom is spoiled. I started him in a 25 g as a 8 in- now he is ready for 40g. Temps 105 bask 40 % humidity. I use towel on bottom. Drift wood and a huge worm rock to sit on. Daily veg...
40 gallons is an outdated minimum and too small. The bare minimum for an adult beardie is 75 gallons, and 4x2x2 or bigger is better. I also don’t recommend using towels on the bottom. They harbour bacteria and don’t offer digging enrichment. Paper towel, non-adhesive shelf liner, or textured tile are all good solids. It’s best to offer digging enrichment with reptisoil, organic top soil, or a bioactive substrate. You could do full loose, half and half, or full solid with a dig box
Do you mean in an outdoor enclosure? It might be too hot or cold for them at times. You won’t be able to control the temperature. They need a cool side as well
That's a great enclosure! Only one thing, bearded dragons don't need as much humidity as other reptiles like snakes and turtles. So having a water bowl can add unnecessary humidity which can cause respiratory problems. Instead what I like to do is every morning I spray him on the nose with water so he can drink that and spray his greens so he can get his daily water needs that way.
I'm going to be getting a bearded dragon soon and this information was very useful . Also another reason you shouldn't use sand substrate is because it can get clogged in there (this is gonna sound bad) but basically there butt hole. I know this because I got a bearded dragon for free and there was sand substrate in is cage and he basically got clogged and it was not good. He died not even a week later

Warm water and dish soap is cheapest and easy and it works good
Depends, dish soap when you're going to deep clean it.
Then you can use vinegar and water for upkeep.
F10 disinfectant works great and is safe for reptiles :)
