Tools are not the issue, really. The space is. That scraped off wax is a b*tch to clean up (it sticks to everything), so if you don't have a garage or a workshop it's a bit challenging. The tools are (roughly): 1. Iron: $70 (an old regular iron also works if you are very careful with the temperature but it makes it easy to overheat and ruin your base) 2. Brushes: $10-$20 3. Scraper: $5 4. Wax: $15? 5. Rubbing alcohol: $2? 6. Rag: $0 :) Waxing your own ski/board is a nice thing to do once. It's incredibly zen.
Chron Felix not that difficult, get all the stone deposits out of the scratch with a rough wire brush & fill the hole with a repair candle. Then wait about five minutes, not to long, and wipe off the leftovers. And if you have enough time, wax your ski again like Jens showed in the tutorial. And you‘re ready to go!
Ptex candles only work for medium width scratches. For bigger scratches you need a ‘welded’ repair, using ptex tape or sticks (which unlike candles don’t contain wax to help the ptex flow). The ptex is then melted using either a suitable soldering iron or specific ptex gun, designed to work at the right temperature. If the scratch is deep enough to see the white fibreglass core (a ‘core shot’), then you first need to apply metal grip string to the fibreglass (and any steel edge if the scratch touches it). Metal grip is a more flexible form of plastic. In all cases you need to remove dirt and old wax with a wax cleaner first, and then ensure there is a key to help the ptex repair material to hold. This might involve slightly undercutting the sides of the scratch with a Stanley knife or similar. Once the ptex repair material has been laid, it needs to be given time to harden, then smoothed down (many people do this with a cabinet scraper and a scouring pad). Then the repaired ski base needs to be structured with specially made brushes prior to waxing.
Nooo the wax act as a conductor for a molecule in it which make slide your skis that’s why you scrap it off after and you only left the molecule on your base so don’t put used wax on your skis it will only scrap your base
You should really do a hot wax scrape to remove contaminants from the base prior to applying the working coats of wax. And the iron should not be pressured, it should float lightly across the base under its own weight in order to reduce the risk of base burn.
That was such a peaceful video. Just curious though I am going to start waxing my own skis soon, and I noticed the ski was pulled down a bit for the vise in the middle is that a requirement or just the way the setup is designed by the company?
Really good video, different from the ones when you speak, but still really relaxing and baam such a kit you have, wish to have one day an Atomic Bent Chetler 100 (Y) (Y)
*Can you please make a video on how to make sure the snow conditions are good?* Weather planning, ideal temperature, wind etc. And especially what weather that cause hard icy slopes, so that I know what to avoid. I went skiing for the first time last week. First day was great. The snow was soft and I was able to do green and blue slopes comfortably. Next day the slopes were just pure ice, and I nearly died several times on the green slopes because I just wasn't able to carve my skis into the snow/ice to break, so I went full speed down the whole thing just doing my best avoiding other people. I have to drive for several hours to get to the nearest resort, so it's frustrating when I get there and it's all ice. Please help me out here, someone. I want to go again next week, and I really want to plan ahead to make sure I get good snow for my own and other's safety. Any input is appreciated.
Love the Videos Jens! I have a questions. I want to get more into skiing (ski instructing etc), but I am 15 and only ski a few times a year (because I live in Australia), I like free ride and having fun. I feel thank I am of a very good level and I was wondering if you had any skis you could recommend me to get. Many Thanks!
@@StompItTutorials Oh thanks, that is good to know. Background: After waxing my latest atomic GS ski, I saw that the camber tension was completely gone. It was a full rocker untill the ski was cold again.
This feels like an open love letter to his skis.
Jens just casually has 4+ bent chetler 100s laying around, what a boss!
Hahaha true

Normally I'm not into asmr type videos but holy shit that was the most relaxing thing I've ever watched. I wish that video went on for hours.
Thank you 🙏
I like this format. Relaxed atmosphere, still some extra information, especially from the audio. Thanks!
Did anyone read the title and think “ASMR” ??
Such a cool video though!

Maybe I'm wierd but I found some of it NSFW
Never thought I’d intentionally put a ski waxing video on repeat. Calming and peaceful.
When you're planning to sneak out of the house before breakfast so you can shred.
…when I get bored or stressed I wax my skis lol
Gonna like this one for whenever I have the tools to wax my own

inovakov I wax them in my apartment, just put some towels under you skis and cover the towels with newspaper
I just use an old iron made for ironing clothes and an ice scraper for cars
trash. I did the same with the iron and it works but a real iron is so much better
Could you make a tutorial for correcting big scratches in the bottom sheet? Love your videos keep it up :)

@@ZenoKaufmann yeah i know but he could show which tools he uses and how, maybe even get into detail with edge tuning
Chron Felix watch a tutorial on how to ptex your skis, or better yet take them into your shop and have them do it for you

Poured my morning coffee and watched this, sooo calming :) Not a word, yet the best tutorial on waxing basics I've seen. I'm so chill right now :)
So calm and relaxing, never really enjoyed watching a ski wax video before. But this apparently is it
A very nice and calming ASMR video, just what I need at the moment.
That was absolutely beautiful Jens, thank you.
Hey man, this might be your best-shot video to date. Super pleasant to watch. Good work!
That video is soooo peaceful and satisfying for some reason👌👌
the only "asmr" video I enjoyed so far
How was that so 'smoothingly' informative and relaxing?! Nicely done indeed.
That was so relaxing man 🌨️
That is my kind of ASMR 😍😂

this is sooo relaxing
Hello Jens! From Finland
Beautiful work!
This was quite relaxing to watch
Awesome video! Cool to see. I’d love to see a video of you explaining how you tune your edges to suit both park and on piste running
Kinda satisfying
Qestion:
If u scrape off the wax can u theoretically re-use it
Not a good idea because the wax gets dirty and burnt and you don’t want to put dirty wax on your skis
@@antontereshchenkov3063 thanks for the clarification
Lordpuffer Der erste just don’t.

To make it stable for the scraping.

Quick question. When I wax my skis, the wax I scrape off has a lot of dark grey in it. What am I doing wrong? Iron too hot?

Do you take the snowboard out very often?

Skiing ASMR.
hi jens, do you always sharpen the edges freehanded?
No. That was just to remove tiny in even bits.
@@StompItTutorials can you maybe do a video on sharpening the edges then?
I have the same x-tools bike stand, I'd rather have your quiver of skis
how many pairs of chetlers do you have?
Just enough ;) 1 180cm for park and one 180cm with the shift binding on and 1 172cm for carving around and also for making the 5 easy tricks video.
@@StompItTutorials Sweet! I wonder what next season has in store for you. 🤔

About 2.5h and one well waxed pair of skis.
