I can see the mom and grandpa forgetting to eat because of their addictions, but I can’t really imagine the dad leaving the house to get anyone anything because he’d have to show his face. So here’s how I’m thinking it out: Maybe the mom picks up whatever she cares to from time to time (still not often enough to feed Claire or the family adequately) for the days where nobody’s stable enough to go out. Maybe she spends all their ‘good’ money on the alcohol and only has whatever’s left for actual food.
