Thomas Muster was kind of the "prototype" for Rafa, and Uncle Toni himself said that Muster was one of the 2 inspirations he used to build Nadal's game (the other was Jimmy Connors).
Wow, great upload, also with Austrian commentator. Remember this like it was yesterday. He should've played Lendl in finals, but we all know what happened... 😑 Muster was my favourite, after the injury he healed and worked like hell and was already in RG 90 semifinals. Amazing. Just look how he swings the 2nd gen Prestige pro 🙌
From the title I thought it would be a lopsided match.... far from it. Great points from Noah and the first two sets were his. Interesting match anyway. Thanks for the upload.
Muster would go on to make the final of this event. However, he would suffer a devastating knee injury, as a result of a car accident, the night before the final. The injury would cost him the remainder of 1989; but in his brilliant comeback in 1990, he established himself as the King of Clay, for the 90s.
Two Rolland Garros champions. Nice vid. Always Wondered how great Muster could have been if not for that terrible car accident. Definitely a better player than Bruguera whom won two FO’s
I remember this tournament. Great contrast in styles, both very physical players. Muster was a beast but was never the same after the knee injury. Noah was Much bigger in person and a fantastic serve and volleyer.
Nosh, last season was 1990. Muster was going to be the best player in the world. Then the accident happened between the semi and the final. I recall Muster player while on a wheelchair. He won Rolland Garros in 1995 against Michael Chang. Noah won Rolland Garros in 1983 against Mats Wilander.
I have never seen a player as noah with that incredible serve and volley..even federrer ou novak have posessed those serves with better tennis raquettes
Elegance vs. power: two great competitors! Muster with devastating backhand and forehand before the accident. He changed them after that, increasing the spin but reducing the potency...
One of thé last performance of Noah. Public call him Marathon Yan with his 3 or 4 five sets Victor. That's why he lose against Muster. Key Biscaine was thé fifth Gran Slam at that time. Muster suffer a big injury after this match, a car broke his legs. He needed 2 or 3 years to come back, with a spécial white product.
I like the fluidity of Noah's serve
Noah and that serve. My oh my!
Muster played with the intensity of Nadal.

Muster was an absolute Lion!
Thank you for your comments!
Great intensity and great match with 2 différent styles. Yannick always played well at KB but he was tired at the end after 3 matches in 5 sets

I agree... Title was misleading. Worst of all, the video didn't show the final outcome of the match.

Exactly.
I heard Ivan Lendl paid all Musters medical expenses for his surgery! 👌👍
@@tennisking3300 It's possible.
I hadn’t heard that, but it wouldn’t surprise me.
@@jeffvanmeter1330 For me too.
Yannick is an afro french = african born in france
great uploads! keep them coming! :)
Thanks, will do!
I remember this match live. What beautiful contrasting styles. 2 amazing athletes at the top of their game!

Noah the last Black man to win a Major almost four decades ago‼
So true!!
Musters backhand is a beast
Yes, Muster's backhand was one of the best in that era... alongside the backhand drives of Becker & Edberg.
@@gvivo2120 Edberg's backhand is better, he just sliced Muster to pieces .

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated! More videos coming each day! 👍😎
After the knee injury, we got the best Muster, he won RG and got to No. 1.
@@miguelbarahona6636 that’s true Miguel! I remember seeing him on court hitting forehands in a wheelchair. Dude was a monster!!
He went on to have quite a bit of success after his knee injury e.g. French Open and a number 1 ranking, 44 match winning streak.
my memory is so bad…I had no idea Noah was playing as late as 1989, or that Muster was playing as early as 1989.
Thank you for your comments and support! Much appreciated always! Stay tuned for daily uploads! Thank you! 👍😎👍
Noah played Australian Open in 1990,Muster was already 23 years in 1989,only 6 years difference between them.
Franz Krynedl war auch einer der besten Kommentatoren die der ORF je hatte
Stimmt zwar, aber das ist eindeutig

This was an astounding match and I loved every minute of it. Still, I'm curious... who won here??
Muster in 5 sets
Je suis surpris de voir un match entre ces deux joueurs.
Je croyais que Noah avait arrêté avant l'arrivée de Munster.

is this the year Thomas had both his knees crushed by a taxi cab

5:43 😂😂😂 he couldn't have said that in a German speaking country without a court violation

Noah couldn’t hit a backhand, only slices, still was capable of winning RG in 1983.
I love Noah!!
1983
@@Tigrastismut Yes,indeed
Noah was stoned and Miuster on speed.
