Happy Feline Friday. Tiki Cat was one of the foods I tried after Panda got well. I fed After Dark Chicken and Beef. I emailed them about the level or mercury and other heavy metals. They replied quickly, but no free stuff! I switched off this food before I learned about calcium and phosphorus. The cats and I are having chicken for lunch (it’s cooked) If you weren’t so far away, I would offer you some. Very informative and entertaining video. Cute top.
I fed my cats the velvet mousse pouches, as they didn't like the shreds or chunky. They loved them, 2 of my cats lived to 17 years *neutered males)., and one female lived to 22 years.
I love that video format and how you went through all their canned wet foods! Id love to see a complete look at Wellness, Weruva and so many more. Looking forward to more Feline Fridays!💕
Hi! Thanks for the video! Though, one question- the crude protein listed on guaranteed analysis & calorie content on the website differs from the protein percentage on the chart even for the same food (eg: Chicken Quail egg recipe in chicken broth, 11% on website compared to 66.850% on the chart). Why is that, and which one should I really be referencing? Thank you very much😄
Dry matter basis vs AsFed. Never use numbers from the guaranteed analysis especially on canned food. You may need to watch my foundation videos if you need help understanding this.
Thanks for the shout out! Your videos are always informative but now the production is quite impressive. I’m sure Ed would agree you’re the happy, fun channel and I’m the grumpy Debbie Downer! I need to be more fun but not sure it’s in my DNA!
And here I am thinking I need to be more serious and professional. But it is a hobby after all so here I am, pretending to be in Hawaii on my lunch break
I give my cat Alice Hills kibble and wet (sensitive skin and stomach), but on Saturdays only as a treat, i give her Tiki Carnivore dry and shrimp canned.
Another informative video!!! I used to feed this brand but my (spoiled) picky cat quit eating it. I have found it difficult to find a canned cat food that fits the nutritional profile you use and recommend. Their SD dental kibble does though. My vet has encouraged me to keep feeding this to both of my cats and it actually passes the picky cat test.
Thanks for the very informative video! I also studied Animal Science but went a different path after graduation. Quick question though, how come on your amazon affiliate link the only wet cat foods you recommend are all Tiki Pets brand, but in the video you don't seem too enthusiastic about it and warn against its high protein composition?
19:32 - ah, I asked for blood works today because Zarya is on a high-protein high-fat diet but then they said it's not necessary until dog is over 7 years old and the company I feed isn't as bad as some of the other brands
To be fair to the vet, we have a shortage here and there's too many pet owners and town isn't nice enough to convince medical workers to move north of Edmonton
Hi, thanks so much for your videos! I chose my puppy food as result of watching. I was wondering which you would choose of the following Science Diet dry dog foods for a 1-year old dog (Havanese) who’s coming off the Science Diet chicken and brown rice puppy small bites: - Adult Small Bites Chicken & Barley Recipe Dry Dog Food - Adult Small & Mini Chicken Meal & Rice Recipe Dry Dog Food - Adult 1-6 Chicken & Brown Rice Recipe Small Bites Dry Dog Food
I haven’t looked at the numbers specifically ( hillspet.com has them all listed on DMB) but from what I remember those are all pretty similar if not essentially identical
Happy feline Friday!! I'm LOVING these videos! Between you at the pet food puzzle guy I'm learning so much. I truly appreciate you both. I tried my cats on Tiki cat, unfortunately they weren't fans of the brand. I have them on science diet light ( They're both 14 lbs lol ) so yeah, I'm hoping that's a good option for them along with Hills WD multi benefit. I'm wondering if at some point you could do a deeper dive on Raw for pets? I did have my cats on raw ( it was a nightmare lol) between having to put 10000000 toppers on the raw to get them to eat was crazy . So now, after watching you and Glenn I have the right diet. My daughter still has her blue heeler dog on raw, if when you can give us more info. We were both drawn into all the social media about raw and listening to all the wrong people lol. Thanks again for being the best teacher!! Cheers from Canada xo
Love your videos and it's great that you've been reviewing a ton of diets in one video! As someone who has a Persian cat and another longhaired cat, all these would not work for me as they are extremely low in fiber and thus increase the risk of hairballs let alone other digestive issues. I think the low fiber thing isn't intentional in that I don't see companies marketing low fiber or owners demanding it, but it seems to be a byproduct of the low carbs trend. Just because something isn't necessary, doesn't mean cats cannot benefit from it.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm allergic to cats and Siberian Forest Cat breeders are the only ones who test to see if their cats have low trace of Fel-D1 proteins
@@ZaryaTheLaika All cats produce Fel d1 in their skin and saliva. Siberian and Balinese are the only two breeds known to produce less Fel d1. Probably does not help you. My two cats have started shedding, so I will be doing a lot of brushing the next few weeks.
Hey! The chicken, chicken liver and quail egg recipe after dark I gave to my senior cat Garfield, I am not fully sure how old he is but he is definitely around 18-19 years old. He has arthritis, dementia, bad dental problems, and has lost so much weight. I gave him the can and he ate about half but wouldn't eat the rest and it really broke my heart because I want to do everything I can to keep him healthy and get the nutrients he needs to stay alive longer and help his health even if the things he already has cannot be reversed. I just do not want him to end up with more health issues even if he is old and it is kind of impossible once a cat is a senior to prevent it from happening. My mom has been feeding him friskies since he got here 8 years ago so I know that has played probably the biggest part in why his health has decreased so rapidly and why it is as bad as it is. Sorry for the long comment just would really like some help here on if you maybe know how I can get him to eat more then just half a can so that he stays gaining weight and not losing it. I add tiki stix to his dry food now too and the dry food I use is the herring and salmon one so I just hope that is something that is helpful to him.
It’s important in hyporexic animals to make sure the underlying cause is addressed such as nausea, renal disease, diabetes and address that directly. There is unfortunately no universal trick.
@@AnimalDocRea I do, and all my other babies. Just want whats best for them and I am doing everything possible to get them on the best diet to keep them healthy and happy. Your videos help and I thank you for them.
hi animaldocrea! i was hoping you could make a video or at least respond to this comment with a list of wet and dry food options for adult cats that you believe are best and fit all their dietary needs. i have two 2.5 year old cats that are healthy and have no health conditions. i’m currently feeding them Blue Buffalo Tastefuls canned and dry food for indoor adults, but am looking to switch to an option with lower carbs since i’ve heard that’s not ideal for cats. i was recently looking into smalls and heard such amazing things until i saw your review on them so now i’m not longer considering them because of the low protein percentage. i only just found your channel today so if you already have a video that relates to this comment then no worries about making a new one. i would also love to hear your opinion/review of Blue Buffalo Tastefuls canned and dry food for adult cats. :)
to add onto my comment and to go into a little more detail of their diet at the moment: right now i am feeding them both the Blue Buffalo Tastefuls canned wet food (all flavors in the 5.5oz can) which i split a can evenly between my two cats in the morning and add a bit of water to so they get extra hydration. in the evening i feed them 1/4 cup of Blue Buffalo Tastefuls Adult Indoor cat food. they also get Greenies Dental treats (16 throughout the day, 8 in morning after wet food and 8 in evening with their dry food) as that is what the package recommends. they also get Churus and Temptations but not on a daily basis.
i’ve spent some more time watching your videos and i came across your review of Purina ProPlan, which my veterinarian has recently recommended to me. hearing your review and how you believe it’s a great dry food for cats makes me feel even better about this option. since i like to feed my cats a mixed diet of canned and dry food i was wondering if you could give us your opinion on the canned version of Purina ProPlan. and if possible at some point in the future, i think we all would enjoy a list of cat foods you’ve reviewed that rank high on your scale you’ve created. or some sort of beginners guide of what to feed adult cats.
I feel that for cat food, grain free should not lose a point. Cats really don’t need much if any grains in their diet. “Cats prefer the tastes of animal fat, protein hydrolysates (digests), meat extracts and certain free amino acids abundant in muscle tissue.” “When ingesting prey, wild cats avoid consuming plant materials contained in the entrails” SACN page 363. “adult cats have very low hepatic glucokinase activity and a limited ability to metabolize large amounts of simple carbohydrates.” SACN, page 366. I could not find any specific references to grain or grain free diets for cats in the book. 🦁
The standards are based on diets with a ME/kg between 3500 and 4000 to account for this, otherwise you would have to do a conversion by creating a multiplier. You can also do the evaluation in a per 100 kcal basis but you will find it hard to ascertain these numbers from most companies.
It is by Bobby Flay the Chef. He made the food for his Mane Cat. It has been around for a few years. I have been feeding it for about 8 months to my two 12 yr old female cats.
29:26 - i see youur videos more like a game show like the Ecolinguist channel who does comparative linguistics and testing to see how much F1 language speakers understand each others
There is no data to suggest that kibble that is properly balanced is detrimental to a cats health (presumed healthy at the time of feeding and no underlying conditions)
Obligate carnivore is a term that refers to felines' inability to synthesize taurine, it has nothing to do with what they eat. Many people are confused by this term because it has been skewed and repeated incorrectly in pet food circles by individuals who are misrepresenting the meaning. Obligate carnivores can eat ( and do eat) whatever they want. They just have to eat something that has taurine in it because they cant make it like other species can that are not obligate carnivores. if you need more clarification on that topic, refer to the SACN text linked in the description box.
