  • Today I've been on an expedition to Wengers at Myerstown PA
    www.wengers.com
    I went looking for parts for the 1080, they had some, but not what I needed, but nevertheless it made an interesting day out for me.
    They dismantle and recover usable parts which they clean, catalogue (using manufacturers part numbers) and store in their huge warehouse. If you think the agricultural warehouse is big, you should see the heavy plant operation across the road, but that's for another day.
    They are great people, friendly and helpful and they can ship worldwide if they have what you need. Better still, go and visit them yourself.

    Very interesting! I got some parts for them for my MF 250 a couple of years back - the centre casting at the back got smashed up inside when the hydraulics failed (quite spectacularly) - nearest housing I could find to Belize was at Wengers. Some gears and bits and pieces too. They were very helpful indeed!

    • @ClarenceFudWeasel
      @ClarenceFudWeasel  2 роки тому +1

      When the hydraulics get out of adjustment, they can be spectacular, pushing the lift arm through the top of the differential housing and smashing the top cover. It has just happened to another one of my viewers too. Are you in Belize?
      Thanks for watching.

      @Tubroos_Bz 2 роки тому

      @@ClarenceFudWeasel This wasn't a result of misadjustment for once! Whoever had worked on this tractor before I bought it had put a very inadequate bolt in place of the set screw that holds the rod thing (I forget the name) that fits between the piston and the lift arm in place... Bolt snapped when lifting a disc harrow on the move... The rod dropped down, got jammed against something, snapped in half, knocked some big chunks out of the inside of the casting where the pinion gear is supported, smashed up the pinion gear carrier like it was made out of cheese or something, destroyed the PTO gears and knocked half the teeth off the differential ring gear. All because of one little incorrect choice of bolt... It cost some cash and time to put it all back together! It's been working well since then though.
      And yes, I live in Belize - ordinarily up in the mountains in the west of the country.

    • @Tubroos_Bz
      @Tubroos_Bz 2 роки тому

      @@ClarenceFudWeasel Oh, yes, also needed a new piston and hydraulic cylinder. The lift cover survived, which quite surprised me. Most bits were available here in Belize (there's an excellent tractor parts place not far from home) but the housing and a couple of the gears weren't to be found easily.

      That's already going to be an issue. At some point I'll do a tour of breakers and fill up a container, just to annoy lord Muck, there's a couple in Minnesota and North Dakota that are really worth a visit. At some point a 1130 or 1155 will find their way back and into my collection. And then there's the 1805 I need...

    I'm from Victoria Australia, one very strange thing I have noticed with American tractors is this strange thing where they don't have lights on the front of the tractor but instead they have them on the rear guards, I've never liked the American built Massey Ferguson 100 series either they just look strange, every second one is petrol too which is odd, down here we got the British built 100 series with the red wheels and the lights on the front of them as opposed to the rear guards.

      Funny you should say that, I'll have some bits of an 1100 with me that will fit on the 1080. I'm seriously thinking of doing a trip to bring back a container of stuff some time. An 1100 or a 1130 would be high on my list. But there's something about an 1155 that I really like too.

      Meltham's finest, the genuine article. Oliver actually badged some David Brown 850 and 950 specifically for the US market. So if you find a green one, I think a few have made their way back to England.

    I don't know of any ag graveyards here in Canada, but I do know that MF's were built in Brantford, Ontario. It might be an area to investigate on the interweb. Always interesting to see scrapyards hunting for parts.
