I think Duriel was the hardest boss. He killed me more than Diablo ever did. That freeze aura of his is brutal plus he hits like a tank. Plus you're in a very small room and he attacks quickly before you can cast a town portal
I have actually never lost to him, only fought him once so far and I came very prepared since I only play on hardcore, I did not take any chances, used a Necromancer, had a merc with me who had good armor and healing and a blood golem, three skeletons and three mage skeletons, when I got in there I cursed him first and then I put up a portal, when my followers died I left and did that on repeat until he died, unfair maybe but I took no chances.
@@theonemrtom101 necromancer is op against him. Also, are you aware that skeleton mages are actually not as good as regular skeletons? I was disappointed when I found that out. I did better without them. Put your points in regular skeletons instead.
When I first played Diablo II, I startrd with a druid and Duriel was hard to fight against. Then I tried the paladin, dumped points in resistance spells and annihilated anything and everyone.
Even in my teenage years Im still having trouble dealing with him specifically on other difficulties. Arguably one of the hardest boss to deal with on d2
@Matthew Donnelly Think because of the small area. All the bosses in the game have huge areas where you can retreat, throw TP`s and easily return. Duriel not so much
wow not only me who thought that, im assuming Duriel is big fat Hydralysk, Andariel is Queen of Blade, and Mephisto is vertical Zerg Defiler 😂... just my imagination
All these years having played this game as a teenager and at 10:42 never even noticed the art. Thanks man watching these vids in this narrative form is a treasure!
It's crazy how good the voice acting is in DII. There's not one, NOT one bad voice acting. It's like they're just talking to you. Now days we get exaggerated, overreacted, deliberate voice acting with little or no passion. It's like they're grabbing some employees and tell them to just "read the line." The difference is day and night.
I am pretty sure that the "Lord of Pain" was a pun aimed at the first time playthrough players - Duriel was the most frustrating fight for me in the whole game by far on my first playthrough decades ago :)
You just show a good narration can give more life to anything. Like most people this brings back memories of me sitting in front of the computer for hours playing this game. I'm so glad my cousin showed me diablo when I was 12. By far one of my favorite game series
i love the way you tell the story not just the canon story but the story your character plays and all the aspects of the enemys and all people in the cities makes it unique compared to all the other channels telling you what happens
15 year old me walks into the tomb with the buffed up Werebear druid: Well, I'm sure ready for another boss fi- What? Wait! Who the-? Holy shit! I can't move! Noooo!

Great video again man! A short narrative when killing the summoner would have been great, as he is the mage from D1 if im not mistaken. Anyway keep up the great work!
Congratulations on the clips. Two things worried the heck out of me for this part: Duriel was a complete surprise along with an unknown demon that hit like a mack truck and how the heck did Diablo get in there to free his brother. Duriel was given no real introduction and since he is one of the 7 it explains why he was hitting like a mack truck. Why was such an important villain given no introduction or clues to his appearance? How the heck did Diablo and Marius get into the tomb if it was sealed?
Am I the only one that had trouble with Duriel on normal back in the day? Now I just /player 8 the game and over gear and over level him, but back in the day, reason I didn't play hard core was this guy on normal.
This whole story (and Diablo 2 in total) had just such a great narrative of always coming too late to stop the impending doom. It created just such a crazy depressive atmosphere when I killed Duriel for the first time back in 2002, and the first thing I heard after it was Lysander saying "I'm sorry things didn't turn out as you had hoped..." (15:22). Side note: in German his voice is way sadder when he says this !
Man I'll never forget facing Duriel for the first time when the game came out and he ruined my shit up hard, he was so damn tanky and me spamming health pots like a mad man!
As I find the story of Horadrim and other mages to find and imprison the Evils worth of a TV serie with real actors, the chase of Diablo in D2 is more like an anime. We are always almost catching him but it seems he always escape from us almost in the last moment. I supposed it was to be thrilling but for me is just rushed. Ps: Act II is the best Act. Ps2: Sanctuary looks really a grim place. Deserts, infected jungles harsh cold. The more suitable place (Westmarch/Kanduras) was took by and old evil who twisted everybody's mind.
I have ALWAYS hated this boss fight no matter how strong I am! Something about knock back, stun, and cold, that make for a HELL of a combo! That said, I can’t wait till your hit act 3! So much lore, so many places, such cool mobs!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!
I can't believe the hits this guy absorbed from Duriel and lived! I lasted 2-3 seconds with him the first 100 times and only beat him using a number of strateegies not shown in this video.
My grandfather and I would always pop up portals so when one of us inevitably died, the other could come back and keep him occupied long enough for the other to return. A sorcerer and Druid team works well.
Excellent video. I love the amount of role play and story telling fun that you have with the game and lore. But armor class doesn't effect lightning damage. Thought I'd put that out there for anyone who might be confused. Diablo 2 does have an "encumbered" aspect with heavy armor decreasing your speed, but this is not lessened with extra strength. Hence elite light class armors are prized by almost every class. Unless you like the look of heavy armor and have lots of str and faster run walk like the barbarian. Most people only get enough strength to wear a monarch shield.
I love your game story telling Bash :) your like an actual character in sanctuary. I'd love to accompany you in your journey but I guess i will have to keep on questing. I hope to see more videos like this. Until next time travler :) your fan Dan
you can bug durial in a multiplayer game by unlocking the durials room using the kings staff. and let another player kill durial first. then talk to tyrial to finish the quest. you can get the quest drop from him everytime after that. note that durial s quest drop is much better than Mophesto
Cool video brother. God awefull boss. I am ashamed to admit, he was a stone wall to me as a boy. Twas only once I embraced the might of the Druid....... and the strategy guide..... that I bested this foul foe. I love seeing the alternate dialoge options though.
Not sure if this changed with Resurrected, but I only went to the far left tomb and found it the first go around. I hear some saying you need to do all of them.
I can’t count how many times my first character (bonemancer) died to Duriel's claw lol. He hits hard, freezes you and moves pretty quick in a really small room, I'd say he’s tougher than Meph and Diablo on your 1st playthrough.
One of the easier characters to deal with him back in the day for me was necro doing *multiple* portal drops on him with maxed minions at the given time. His power matched his look, bad annoying fucker. Fast ass strikes with big ass demon body
The first time I encountered Duriel, I was playing a bowazon and it was the hardest boss fight of the series for me. A friend of mine played a paladin on his first go against Duriel and said it was the easiest boss fight ever...

The one thing that always bothered me back then is, how did Diablo entered Tal Rashas Tomb and had gone pass the Sealed Chamber without an Horadrim Staff to free Baal? I mean finding the real Tomb was easy he sensed his Brother but entering it without doing anything the Player has to do for that is strange. Is there a second Entrance with an easy path to Baal? Then the Horadrim are Idiots and no wonder all 3 Prime Evils had it so easy escaping their Prisons, well except Baal , they should hide the Prisons better and at unaccesable Places and dont build Towns over them.

Duriel scared the crap out of me with his speed when i fought him the 1st time as a kid lol
Don't forget his cold aura, also. Quite frightening to any Bosses in D2 imo...
I screamed when I first met him lmao

I wish they kept archangels mysterious in diablo 3
Agreed
I wish they never fucked up so hard with D3
By that point, keeping the secret about archangel would be more harm than help, like, 999999:-999 harm/help ratio
they were already understood pretty well in diablo 2 if you were into the books.
I remember I spent nearly a whole afternoon to beat this shit when I was 12, pure nightmare

Excellent series as always. Glad to hear all this dialogue and see all this gameplay from the Blizzard I used to know!

Sadly, they won't. Blizzard has damaged source code of Diablo 2. I expect either new patch for D2 or some sort of event in D3
Still, Duriel is the scariest bosses in a whole Diablo series IMHO. People saying Butcher as a scary boss but Duriel is more evil, painful and tougher
