In 1952 my Dad bought a 1931 Model A with plans to make it into a classic Hot Rod. He had taken most of it apart in my Grandfather's home shop behind my Grandparent's garage when life intruded on the project. First, he was off to post-war Germany with the army, then marriage, school, work and then me... and there the old car sat where he had left it. I remember playing in it as a kid. After my Grandfather died the house was rented out, but the shop and it's Model A remained untouched. Finally, in 1990 my Dad and his sisters decided it was time to sell the house so my Dad offered the Model A for sale in its dismantled condition and soon sold it for $8,000. The new owner completed the transformation as a Hot Rod in just a few years and brought it by one day, to my Dad's amazement.

There are so many repair and replacement parts available for a Model A, this will be a comparatively easy restoration, especially with your combination of skills. You scored big time Jonathan.

Don't let them miss you Jonathan. Be strong and stay off the nicotine. I'm in my mid 70'S now and lost my father to that horrible addiction when I was 38, my mother when I was 46 and my oldest brother lived in a wheel chair on oxygen before he passed. I miss my father and mother every day, so much lost. Don't allow that dreaded drug make your loved ones miss you. It will be life long sorrow for them.

Incredible find. Stick with the plan to not smoke. I promise you it gets easier. I had to go one minute at a time some days in the beginning. Trigger points are going to be 30 days, 90 days, 6 months, 9 months, and a year. I've been quiet for over 10 years now. It is so worth it. I used to wake up with my fingers to my mouth, dreaming that I was smoking. Now except for the very seldom times I walk in the path of someone's exhale of cigarette smoke, I don't think about it at all.
Keep it up 💪 you're a lot stronger than you think,
    Jimmy

Nice going with quitting smoking! It really can be a helluva struggle, letting go. For me, when I quit, the toughest part that I remember was all the hacking & coughing just after I quit. These days, I find it much easier to avoid the temptation, especially if I'm not around other people who happen to be smokers. Just don't look back. It sounds to me from one of the Franklin vids, like your wife is very supportive of you NOT smoking. You're a very lucky man, Jonathan.

Based on the grille shell and running board splash aprons ( if they are correct/original), the car is a 31. The 30 would have two piece splash aprons and the grill would not have the color inserts at the top and bottom. The original title numbers on the Model A's were the engine numbers. Those numbers are also stamped on the top of the frame, I believe, under the cowl on the driver side. Sometimes, they are worn off by movement between the pieces over time. By now, most of the original motors have been changed so the engine numbers may no longer be correct.
Great find !! Hope you get a distributor and get her running. Good luck and Merry Christmas. NICE CHRISTMAS PRESENT !!! 👍👍👍🎄

I know how tough it can be to remain free from smoking. The hardest thing for me was when I sat down to think something through, the first thing I did was reach for my pipe and tobacco pouch. Also, just right after a meal or after you just finished making something that took you a while to make was the perfect time to light up and set back and enjoy your handy work. You are going to have to find something else to reward yourself with during these times. Whether that's a piece of fruit, a piece of hard candy or something else, find what you like and start

Just a friendly reminder, if you need to put a rope under that much tension again, drape something over it, maybe in a couple places. Looks like there were plenty of scraps of tarp etc laying around. Hang some of these over the rope - best is on each end of rope about 5 feet from where youre changing over to chain/cable etc, and one or two toward the middle. That way no matter where the rope breaks it will keep the rope from whipping back.
