  • let the games begin...this year we are testing Miracle Grow against the popular Urine and Urine with Wood Ash as fertilizers. This is video #2 in the series to date.
we have a control, a miracle grow, uriine and urine with woodash in seperate planters. We've planted Okra, Cucumber and Black Bean plants, all from saved seed and all sister plants.
    Let's check it out!

Will any medicines you take adversely affect the plants?

not that I know of...my understanding is that the plant will use what it wants (nitrogen, Phosphorus and potassium) and leave pharmacuticals out of it.

As always, I am so impressed by the ingenuity of this experiment. Looking forward to more updates!

I hope you do not mind my off topic posts and more posts prob help youtube score. I freeze my tomatos similar to you, but I puree them and freeze them in 1 gal bags (~ 4.5 pounds each). I need to thaw them out for freeze drying. I think it would take forever thawing in the fridge.
If I thaw them in a bucket like do, how long can they sit in 80° before they degrade too much ? Again they are puree Ice blocks fully frozen.

I would take a strainer/colander and put it at the top of a 5 gallon bucket...so the tomato water strains into the bottom...that way you are just left with the tomato meat. Much faster to thaw and dry. you can remove the skin easy or leave...up to you. I'm making an educated guess but i'd start thawing in the evening and by morning they'll be done so you have all day to dry. tomatoes have a lot of acid so they should be ok for a while at room temp...they also have sugar so before they started to rot they would start to ferment...I don't think that would hurt you at all. I bet it would take a couple or more for them to start rotting. I think you are good Mike.

the price of nitrogen continues to climb...so back to basics may become the norm again...

Good to know free urine and wood ash is still leading the pack. One day we may not have MG.

I've heard that a lot and I've tested it (stopped fertilizing with so much nitrogen when the flowers started turning into fruit) but it didn't make a difference. I could step up that type of testing more though so maybe (next year) I should re-test it with beds of their own. This year is too late. Thanks for the suggestion.

@@OldSchoolPrepper yes no need more test.. its drive by plant hormones like auxins, gibberellins (GAs), cytokinins, abscisic acid, brassinosteroids, jasmonic acid-related compounds, and ethylene as long the subtance available in the soil.. they will pick what needed.
