    I have this exact model. Midnight edition 2019
    I get a ton of compliments on the look of it.
    It gets really sharp by adding window tint. And Installing a halo wire harness to make the halo head lights come on with the daytime running lights. It’s a razor sharp looking car it does turn heads. I have children and man do they find it extremely comfortable and enjoy it.

    This car was a gem when it came out 5+ years ago....exterior/interior were tops in many reviews. What a shame that GM/Chevrolet does not market this car! They should take this car and put it on a RWD caddy chassis if they decide to refresh it. Of course, they have it on the chopping block with the dive in car sales....but there are still people out there that don't want suvs.

    • @PRNTestDrive

      We're one of those who don't want to buy an SUV! We'd definitely consider the Impala if Chevrolet moved it to truly compete with the Chrysler 300 and Ford Taurus, it needs a longer wheelbase and RWD.

    I’ll explain GM as my neighbor explained to me years ago. When the doctor used to visit people’s homes. If the doctor pulled up in a Cadillac. You knew that you was going to pay. If he pulled up in a Buick. You felt good. You knew he was a good doctor and was going to not overcharge you. If he owned a Chevy, well… At least you had several other brothers and sisters.

    The gloss wood inside should have been matt wood. Shiny center consoles reflect the sun and blind a person while driving. When are manufacturers going to learn this?

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 років тому +4

      We've had a few cars where this has been a problem on very sunny days. Only a handful of manufacturers are using a matte wood finish, or materials that aren't shiny in general.

    Hi Nile, I find the Impala has great presence on the road being such a large car. The steering wheel styling generally resembles that of the 2006-2013 W221 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. I was curious whether you found rearward visibility in the Impala to be problematic. The Impala has a sloping parcel shelf that rises from the backseat towards the rear window. Some reviewers have commented that it impairs rearward visbility, while some owners say they get used to it pretty quickly and it isn't a problem with the rear view camera.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 років тому

      When it comes to reversing, the camera is definitely a must. We found that the sloped parcel shelf did reduce rear visibility, especially on the highway where it was harder to see traffic behind that was close because of it. It isn't the first car we've had this issue with, a simple solution for GM could be to offer their video rearview camera which is exclusive on Cadillac right now, but with Nissan rolling a similar system out on their vehicles, maybe GM will too.

    One of the biggest myths is that you need AWD for winter driving.
    I’ve driven the mountains of BC for 25 winters and almost all of it has been with FWD or RWD.. when I was a poor student with cheap and worn all-seasons.. and now with the most expensive set of winter tires available.
    ...and who’s in the ditch, 90% of the time? A AWD or 4WD vehicle.. typically on the first straight stretch after they broke all four loose trying to pass a line of slower cars.
    Overconfidence in Motion.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  4 роки тому

      Lots of people feel they are invincible with AWD when they really aren't. Winter tires make a huge difference, and are required here in Quebec both from a legal perspective but also from the amount of ice and snow we ultimately get each year.

      @@PRNTestDrive no, Impala SS. The bubbly looking Impala. I want to say 06 through 09 had a Impala SS version with the 5.3 LS4 v8. 00 through 05 had an Impala SS, with the supercharged 3800 v6. In 06, the 3.5, 3.9, along with the 5.3 was available in the Impala. After 09 I believe that the 3.5 and 3.9 was all available, with the 3.9 having the 300 hp. Thus the v6 having the same power as the v8. The difference is in power delivery.
      Obviously the difference in technology and finishing, is going to be vastly different, between an 2006 and 2018, but the driving experience (if the older car is maintained).

      a weaker structure than a more modernly designed vehicle. I find the star rating to not hold up to it's initial rating after years gone by and vehicles twice as strong in the same size/weight class entering the field. I had a 14' Cruze and now have a 17' Malibu.. I live in Syracuse NY, one of the snowiest cities in the country.. unless you're trying to overland in the snow, a FWD sedan (especially one as heavy as the impala) will get you through literally anything you need it to with the right set of snow tires. I've ran both of my Chevy's with and without snow tires, without they're intimidating in the winter but with snows I wouldn't hesitate to drive anywhere anytime (on road) even in the worst of blizzard conditions. it's not a NEED it's a peace of mind thing. Chevy dropped the ball by discontinuing this model. With the smoothe ride but high end and rugged look of this vehicle they could have put a turbo V8 in a limited edition model and made a killing. They made an almost perfect car and then discontinued it.

      GM has been pretty good with making awesome vehicles and killing them off, this was definitely one of them. I really enjoyed the time I had with this, and would buy one if a good deal came up. AWD would have been killer for it. It's too bad GM is focusing solely on crossovers, SUVs, and trucks.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 років тому +1

      The RWD might be hard to do for a final year, as they'd have to develop a new chassis, however they should be able to stick a V8 in this without much issue. Call it a special edition Impala SS with something the enthusiasts will appreciate as a farewell to the nameplate if they do retire it after 2019.

      Different breed of vehicle. the Taurus is big power while the Impala is merely adequate. the Taurus is so out of date, besides the powertrain I hardly consider it competitive anymore against anything but itself. if that's what you really want I suggest you go and drive one. you will be astonished by the powertrain but the interior and up to date features are sorely lacking. I wouldn't hash out my money for anything but a pre owned one or MAYBE a lease depending on how the deal worked out.

There's only one case where I've pre-researched a vehicle on UA-cam before we filmed it, it was the 2018 M760Li and I watched the Doug Demuro video on it. Without that I wouldn't have know about the 3D 360º camera system, so that was a benefit.
