This reminds me of a very similar game, Solitairica, a rougelike that came out in 2016 that was actually really good, but never got any attention. If anybody here tries this game and enjoys the RPG solitaire thing, then I'd highly recommend checking Solitairica out too.
All the northernlion tries titles read like the motorcycle guys. "An RPG based on solitaire?! OoOoKkKk" "Two roguelikes with a little risk of rain in the middle?!? I GuEsS"
He’d be good at it, but there’s also a 99% chance I’d fall asleep while driving - “Number one sleeping aid on UA-cam is this boob” - Baertaffy, NLSS Civil War
Imagine he's narrating a book and a line reads a little bit like the lyrics of some song so he breaks into song in the middle of an audiobook. Dude, I'd pay extra.
I'm loving the great variety of these NL Tries. Even when there's one I may not really enjoy, the next one always seems to pique my interest! Great job!
The NL Tries series has been awesome for bringing great games that might fly under the radar to light. Demon Crawl and Eden have both knocked it out of the park for me, and I wouldn’t have found them had you not promoted them here. Thanks for the games and the company
Man this feels like a different take on Solitairica, a game that I truly enjoyed. I actually think Solitairica looked better and felt cleaner and more streamlined/familiar. That said, this is 100% a game I need and will fit in just fine in my collection. Thanks for the video, my dude!
Idk why, but the beginning dialogue NL reads makes me realize I would love to hear him produce an audio book. (As long as it wouldn’t put me to sleep like Isaac haha)
The base mechanic is called "golf solitaire" and we adapted it into this combat form with the addition of extra cards and charging up your actions with the playing cards and the ability to manipulate the tableau with your active abilities.
You try so many of the games that I am interested in and I always appreciate getting your take on them. This channel is great. Subbed :) Have you ever played Solitairica? It's a Solitaire roguelike rpg. :D
What was the mushroom boar creature called? The cam covered it up. Just curious. Oknm. "Fungal Boar". You can see it whenever they resolve an attack. Don't know how I feel about his "deathmetalrocks" pose whenever he casts Iron Skin. Like it was a holdover from a grittier game they wanted to make, but scrapped.
NL~ has 7 card combo showing on table. "How am I supposed to get a combo going?" Me~ "I'm going out to buy this game to show you the error of your.....oh....I see what you did there."
I just knowticed the "Kt" (I don't have the right characters to type it) symbol on some of the video thumbnails anyone know what it means?, (My guess is editor mark) Any one know?
That's pretty good, but have you heard of Clamdigger? You're gonna love it. Tyrone calls you up, you know, in the game, and he says, "I can dig more clams than you, stupid!" And you've got to say, "Nuh-uh, boy!" And then y'all gotta race down to the beach with your buckets and your shovels. And the object of the game... is to find parking.
So according to the NL ties rules, when he doesn't talks about the game much is because he likes the game. He did not like the game, because he talked about the game a lot.
If you really want a challenge, put up this video on your second monitor and do your math homework at the same time. The constant numbers will very much distract you.
Is it just me or is NL trending toward not paying attention to what he's doing in games? There's a lot less attention being paid to what's going on and prioritizing just _doing something_. I think this is fine in a gameplay context, but in a "tries", it seems like it'd be more beneficial to extract some of the underlying information? But I guess it's irrelevant on any Steam game since you get 2 hours to refund it vs a 30 minute try, but not even stopping to read something and going from "in normal, heath persists in chapters" to "health persists in difficult chapters" just seems like going way too fast. It's gone from "are you colorblind" in Streets of Rogue, to "I don't care about fake lore", to just a demonstrated lack of interest in taking half a second.
Man he is really leaning into the pregnancy thing. Every single time he brings up Kate or "my wife" he has to say she is pregnant. We know dude, but not sure how that has any relevance to saying you got a discord message?? It's like the nerdy dude that gets a girlfriend and then has to bring it up in every conversation.
I had this on in the background while I was making lunch in the kitchen, and I actually thought, "the mad man, he's finally learning how to count".

That’s the only mobile game I play. It’s so addictive. So happy someone else thought about that game :)
I thought of Solitairica while NL was playing this, too. :)
NL card game vid, maximum comfy has been achieved.
It is a wonderful thing to curl up and chill-out to.
Awesome! Thanks for covering our game. Much appreciated.

This is a great comment
Yeah guys, there's roguelite elements.
Hades with a little Life Is Strange mixed in? WHOA
In another life NL could be the guy who reads the audiobooks you listen to on 12 hour drives
Maybe later in this life
He’d be good at it, but there’s also a 99% chance I’d fall asleep while driving - “Number one sleeping aid on UA-cam is this boob” - Baertaffy, NLSS Civil War
He would find it impossible not to add his own witty quips in between the story xD
Imagine he's narrating a book and a line reads a little bit like the lyrics of some song so he breaks into song in the middle of an audiobook. Dude, I'd pay extra.
14:14 "I want to unveil all the cards.." but brother you didn't see the much easier solution that would pick up literally every single card visible
His E-Sports galaxy brain already determined the first half of the play too rip
14:16 bruh. 9890123. Your way worked out but bruh. Great video by the way. Keep up the good work NL.
It hurt me inside when he did that
He always plays these games so fast while also talking that I'm sure 70% of his actions are made by his subconscious mind.
@@TripleOmega he was visibly thinking
@@TripleOmega the opposite actually , he overthinks easy solutions
I'm living for NL actually reading the lore and with a sweet tone too

Super cool. I'm seriously considering a purchase. I really like that it's not just drafting attacks and defends like NL said in the video.
Check out the reviews on Steam. "very positive."
You are *_THE_* best for bringing this to my attention!!! My dear lady adores Solitaire! This is the best discovery.
I would love to see more of this NL!
**sees a new NorthernLion tries**
**sees it's card-game**
**puts it on Steam wishlist**
I cannot complain. This sequence of actions is perfect.
This reminds me a bit of Solitarica. That game was great. This one seems cool too.
This reminds me of the Microsoft Solitaire collections "tri Pyramid" game
The base mechanic is called "golf solitaire" and we adapted it into this combat form with the addition of extra cards and charging up your actions with the playing cards and the ability to manipulate the tableau with your active abilities.
The main mechanic is from TriPeaks in that Microsoft Solitaire collections. StoneTheIceMan was my AI nemesis.
This looks great! just bought the game because of this vid. Looking forward to playing it tonight.
Thank you (dev)
I'd love to see more of this
This also reminds me of Hand of Fate with the different kind on encounters and some of the art style... this actually looks pretty good.
this one was really interesting, thanks NL :)

It's because the mage is holding the dagger in the "metal" hand.
This looks fun even if he sort of forgot the undo thing exists
1:15 we get it, there's a quarantine. :^)
NL~ has 7 card combo showing on table. "How am I supposed to get a combo going?"
Me~ "I'm going out to buy this game to show you the error of your.....oh....I see what you did there."
I played this game towards launch and the music really slaps!
i noticed this on the new releases, but because of seeing the gameplay here, i went back and picked this one up
Thanks! (dev) Enjoy :-)
At first I thought it had VO but I look over and it’s the Egg himself
Love the music for this game, who made that?!?!
One of the rare game that NL can perfect the tutorial
Going to enjoy this with a mug of steamy coffee.
Akixkisu I do be sipping my morning brew
09:13 "Hey NL, you missed a tinted card!" basically.
NL's kid is lucky that he gets to hear NL read him bed time stories. NL seems like he'd be a cool dad
His kid is a girl.
You are the best thing to listen to when trying not to puke. Keep rolling EggLord and wish me luck
Play more of this!
I concur!
First thing opening the video, I see that character on the menu screen and wonder if there's a Telltale artist on this team.
The artist is Jen Pattison from Scotland.
Inspired me to get the game, looks super fun.
Thanks! (Dev)
Unsurprisingly made by the same developer that made Shadowhand and Regency Solitaire
We did! Well spotted. We iterated on the combat design from Shadowhand with this one to reduce the RNG and boost the emergent strategies.
This was what I was looking for :)
This game giving me a massive puzzle quest vibe. Is that just me?
Dev here: Well it was an influence, so you are right!
Love the Puzzle Quest games. Nice job on your game :)
I thought nl reading the text was an actual voice over in game at first
NL Tries strikes my wallet yet again. That makes 3, pending another 3 on Early Access release.
I just knowticed the "Kt" (I don't have the right characters to type it) symbol on some of the video thumbnails anyone know what it means?, (My guess is editor mark) Any one know?
In the top left corner in the circle? That's his current branding.
That's North in japanese
It's not really a deck card game at all, which surprised me. The concept of solitaire doesn't even require cards to be a thing.
He said strength like a brotha I cannnnoooottttt
Nl turns into the Count
More of this yo
Was this video deleted?
SeemsGood
Sorry to tell you nl but solitaire is a game about matching suits
Hm, this is cool!
This is more like Tri Peaks than Solitaire imo
Yes you are right. It's variant of solitaire called golf solitaire. There are many variants.
I literally could not watch you play this. Looks like a fun game though!
They really missed out on the chance of calling this "the legend of Sol-tair" just sayin.
That's pretty good, but have you heard of Clamdigger? You're gonna love it.

@@hollycloutier2727 That hit me right in the feels...I miss ATHF.

Yoooo, Solitaire RPG game for us lonelies? Im in!!!

Morning sickness? Hungover? Chemo? No matter what, good luck to you!
nice
Oh it's one of these games. I've played a couple, they're decent time wasters. They seem almost identical though.
There's none with a combat system like this. I guarantee it.
Man this main character looks super plain and unimpressive for being the biggest threat to the enemy. :/
Early bois lets go
