BTW as for the mention of Daxter not being a playable driver I was mainly referring to the Story mode (like he isnt in the races) the extra content and multiplayer mode is a different story (high key forgot the Daxter Mobile was a thing cause I got my PSP years after Jak X came out and I maybe didnt unlock all the extras on the PS4 version yet :p)

People may like more Mario Kart, Crash Team Racing or Diddy Kong Racing but my heart will always have a spot for this game, man what a nostalgia trip, great video Buns.
Same. This game, IMO, is second only to Crash Team Racing. Never have I played better racing games than these two. Naughty Dog really had a firm understanding on how to do kart/fantasy racers, even though it wasn't even their thing.
This has always been a personal favorite alongside Mario kart. This was actually the 2nd jak game i played "right after playing 3" and i had so much fun with it
Darter was playable as a driver lol and when you selected him he wasn’t on jaks car love the level of detail. Also if you had memory card with the older games you got the jak from that game

The Jak series will always have a special place in my heart as it was my first intro into gaming. My three brothers and I would have a save slot each to complete the games and sometimes trade off parts we found difficult. It was sibling bonding at its finest as we raced to finish first while also helping each other out. Little baby me always had a little trouble controlling the dune hopper but damn if it still isn't my favourite car. I never got the chance to finish Jak X for myself though I did watch my older brother finish it. Sadly our little second hand PS2 died before I could and the next console we got was the Xbox 360. I'm sorely tempted to buy a PS4 now that the games have been remastered, especially with your contagious enthusiasm reawakening my childhood nostalgia.

Recently got the platinum trophy for Jak X,had fun,wasn't as hard as I remember playing it back then on the PS2 during my childhood.
Holy crud I just watched the trilogy video and it said stay tuned, I looked at the date and it was from a year ago, and now this. Welp sorry to all who had to wait.
Jak and Ratchet universes are the definition of my childhood.

Absolutely loved the game, managed to get the best score in each race, except one. That one fucking race where your weapons are sabotaged.
This game corrupted my memory card twice. Seriously, the physical CDs had a problem where the game would loop when you tried to save it, so basically you had to turn the game off when it was saving, which corrupts your memory card. Man, this game gives me nightmares for that sole reason.

I remember the hilariously unfair AI rubber banding in hero mode. Not only would you never be able to gain on them that much, but for some reason, 1 of the AI drivers's rubber banding would be set to max from the start and never let up, requiring perfect driving to get 1st.
Javelin X was always my go-to.

I really loved this game and played the ever living crap out of it made sure to get gold in everything and even been made fun of by others when I talk about it T.T but I still love it for tis atmosphere and music and gameplay. I Hope it gets remastered but mostly ported to STEAM so I can hopefully play online with others
The car physics of Jax X were a thing of dreams, that was an amazing retrospective on the game Buns!

Very true. I actually played the entire game with Ratched and never used Jak since I didn't play any of the games before so I wasn't as attached to him as a character. Ratched a whole different story.
Naughty dog is never done with a series until there is a racing game. I wonder what the uncharted racing game would be like

Nope. He still has them, just no reason to use them in a race. As for the lost frontier. The world is low on eco (SOMEHOW! I always figured it was infinite or endlessly recyclable) and because of that even trying to use Light or Dark jak just DOES NOT work.

Goofy women are god's gift.
As someone who bought it to tide me over for a few weeks and for nostalgia sake, here are some pro tips.
Missiles 2 shot, most the time, and can be fired from MILES AWAY without the lock on indicator or sound effect. Dark eco rockets are always death 90% of the time
The smoke screen is useless and if you drive through dark eco smoke screen you insta die, but enemies won't die to it. Just keep it until you reach the next red eco.
Keep your red eco weapons and throw them away just before you hit the next one to always leave traps and have a backup to deflect missiles. Keep the shield for gods sake if you're in first to save yourself from peace make.
Second place can get the peace maker and insta troll whoever is in first place, even the ai can do this to you.
If the peace maker is far enough back just hit the breaks and watch it gib whoever passes you lol. Also saves your shield.
Deploy the sentry turret/rocket turret at the edges of a track because no One drives there, it will rack up a lot of kills.
Place flame slick on turns while drifting or tight spaces for guaranteed kills too.
Reverse drones and mines really work when you're getting your butt grinded by enemies. Or just plain shot at by them.
Dark eco pacemaker works like the super nova. It kills anyone in front of you. And will surprise kill you a lot.
The road blade, street grinder, and javelin X are the best imo
Use a heavier car like the basher, hammer head or roadhog, or the anvil/boomer for rush hour. More stability when you collide.
Ditch your yellow weapon if you're in first and it isnt full so you can essentially reload it.
The dark eco vulcan fury is NUTS
It only takes 4-5 vulcan fury shots to kill drones on death races, save your ammo
Shooting and drifting is really cool when you slide sideways and shoot whoever is driving perpendicular to you and hit the turbo to take 1st back.
Turbo helps stabilize your car when coming out of a drift. Hold turn, brake, and turbo to get the longest slide but press accelerate and use turbo to stop drifting.
Turbo works in the air too.
When using class 3 vehicles, you're going to need the breaks especially on haven city/sewer tracks.
The AI scale to your speed so if you drive too well you're going to see even they are driving too fast to stop from crashing.
AI are very dangerous in arenas yet allow you to shoot them while they hop and sit still lol.
Turbo is get out of jail free in arenas, use it to yeet out of a hot mess.
That is all for now.
Another one for your list: when you scoop up a yellow or red eco charge, it’ll show the respective slots cycling through weapons at random. Pulling the trigger on that weapon slot will stop the random cycling early. Could be handy if you’re fast enough.

I've always considered the Havoc V12 to be the best car. Road Blade as close second. I think the Dragonfly is the worst

@@IvlivsSosae Back in the day, you essentially had to use the V12 when playing online for a chance to win. If you're good at drifting/snaking (a necessity due to its low turbo bank), it is objectively the best because it has the highest speed and acceleration stats. Agreed that Road Blade is a great car and my personal favorite as well due to having the highest turbo bank stat.
Thanks Buns, this game is very underrated and truly encapsulates how great the PS2 generation was in terms of creativity and overall fun

Actually if my memory is right, you can play as Daxter. You just need to plug in your psp that has a save file of Daxter (the psp game).
I just beat the game last night. Daxter and Pecker were available for me. They even had their own vehicles! I know you can scan a connected PSP for characters, but I don’t know who they are, and with Clank’s head in here as a helmet, I couldn’t guess who it is...
Connect a PSP with 100% Daxter save to get the Daxtermobile, Daxter himself just unlocks after 5 hours of gameplay.

Contrary to popular belief, crash tag team racing wasn't a racing game at all. It was actually an on rail shooter.
Honestly the races had no challenge to them at all. You had access to every power except for the one-hit KO flame and once you got in first and started throwing shit backwards on the track it was over. Too easy IMO.

I see you're a man of culture as well...fun fact, none of the songs were sung by Homme ( Millionaire + Song for the Dead). Millionaire was sung by the bassist and SFTD by Mark Lanegan :D
Did you know that they wanted tool to make the sound track? But as tool were on tour they had to get billy from a perfect circle billy then went on to ask the drummer of korn to help out and a few other people
You mentioned Daxter not having a vehicle...now, if you had the PSP Daxter game back in the day when this was originally out for PS2, you could get the Daxtermobile. Thing is though, I'm pretty sure he was playable too after playing the game for a certain length of time? You could also unlock Pecker.
On the PS4 version, you can still get the Daxtermobile. You need to have a save file of the Uncharted Collection. And Daxter and Pecker are bought in the extras menu with Precursor Orbs, I think.
That's pretty cool, especially considering you could get Jak and Daxter for free if you preordered that collection on PS4.
Also, a ratchet deadlocked save gave you him as a racer.

I was disappointed that Jak X wasn’t the Jak 4 I was expecting but it was a goddamn great racing game.
I can half see most characters in the Jak and Daxter series just jumping out of the car at the last second. Given some of the missions I remember from Jak 3, I wouldn't be surprised if jumping out of a speeding vehicle at the last second was Jak and friends 101. Missions in question involving a hover-car full of explosives closely followed by missiles and an otsel riding a heavily armed missile.
I must say, Jak X was certainly the Final Fantasy X of the franchise. Much better then Jak 8. I still can't believe Jak died half way through!

I couldn't agree more. Jak X is one of my favorite games of all time and I have played a LOT of games! I absolutely cannot shut up about how amazing it is despite being preposterously buggy. Like, I got a demo disc for it ahead of time and started having DREAMS about playing it early! Me and a friend spent HOURS on that demo just topping eachother's scores in Death Race!
It also finally gave me playable Keira which is what I always wanted. I...really like Keira.
As for online play? There's something called XLinkKai which lets you hook your PS2 up to your computer to play against people on non-Sony servers but I haven't messed with it. "Find a way to play Jak X online" has been on my backlog for a while.
Oh and as for the Hot Coffee scene? That was for me...kinda. I *REALLY* wanted to know how Tess was coping with being an Ottsel suddenly and the fact that she isn't in the main story disappointed me so...I guess the Hot Coffee scene is the best I am gonna get.
i really think your too hard on jak the lost frontier, firstly they did port it to the ps2, might have not been a great port, but still it was ported and over all it wasnt a bad game. Story wise Yes it did count, even if you didnt like it personally. Should they have gone another way with it? absolutely! the console game companies desperate desire to push 'handhelds' (less cost for more profit) has been a ever present thorn in the sides of gamers everywhere for decades. Where in wonderful sequels to beloved series get buried within a 'posh' secondary system set played by only a minority of the gaming community. What sony needs to do is make a 'steam-like' service for pc where we can buy and play -all games- from playstation, ps2, ps3, ps4 etc. making every title they've ever had available again for a low price. they would stand to make billions on people just wanting to rebuild their original game libraries alone.

It's literally the pity weapon for piss poor drivers since it spikes in pickup chance the farther behind you are, maxing out if you stay in last place for more than 10 seconds.
Although that shouldn't happen too much, since the game is so hectic and the AI pretty darn competent that the standings never stay the same for more than 10 seconds, and it's never winning or losing by a landslide.

@NotOrdinaryInGames: LOL, I know that Kleiver said that about Daxter, although I don't actually think he was being serious as it was just an empty threat, I cannot imagine that would of happened to him especially in early teens game. To create Ottsel version then kill him, nah -the fact that the dickhead was taken down a peg becoming an Ottsel is reason enough to see more of him for the humour more than anything else. Given how snobby he was, he probably thought watching car races was beneath him even in Ottsel form.
