Long barreled UZI's were made so they'd have a 16 inch barrel and they could be sold as rifles without NFA 'Short barreled rifle' paperwork (taxstamp).
This means that they also were semi-automatic, not full-auto. In fact, if you look closely you can see all full auto firing in this movie is actually semi-auto, with full-auto sound dubbed over it.
Saves money on guns and paperwork. They did this a lot in the 80's (A-Team anyone?)

The long barrel uzi's were because of a restriction on certain classifications of firearms. Lot's of smg size weapons were required to have a barrel over a certain length for civilians to own.
only apply to real live firearms, not deactivated or movie props that can only fire blanks.

The UZI with a 16" barrel is the civilian, semi- auto version after the 1986 Assault Weapons Ban ... it's why Arnold used a weird MP5 in "Raw Deal too.
Cheaper productions couldn't afford the "Real Deal" versions, and coundlt chop them down either.
The gun in "Raw Deal" was the modified HK-94 with the barrel shroud and the foregrip, not an MP-5. He also used it in "The Running Man".

Brian's car identification of the Ford Taurus was a key moment for me. Guys in Vietnam (Vietnam ended in 1975) dreamed about a car that wouldn't exist until 1986. So thanks to Brian, I realize this was a time travel horror movie inception style.

Dave was right. When he called Queen Mary it was the ship in the background as the cab pulls into dock/parking area. Then it cuts to the ship they used for film. Despite his constant drunken haze, the man was spot on.

The Uzi with the long barrel is because in the US it is illegal to sell a rifle with a barrel length of less than 16 inches (don't ask why, it is a long stupid story). When they started importing civilian Uzis to try to sell on the civilian market they had to make the barrels comically long to comply with the law.

It is a semi-auto Uzi. It has a 16 inch barrel so it isn't a pistol or short barreled rifle. David A. Pryor probably wouldn't spend the extra money for a cooler gun.

Also, it's a shame Dan Haggerty had barely any screen time, considering in his other movies you've shown he comes across as fairly likeable, like in Elves. Former detective involved in a battle against Nazi Elves and still came across as likeable and down on his luck. Him standing there dumbfounded while his sleeping buddies unload into the ceiling is hilarious. xD
Clearly Jacob's Ladder was heavily inspired by this movie.
