  • This video introduces a pair of CryEngine developers to assist in the definition of PBR, or Physically-Based Rendering, a bit of a buzz-word in the industry right now. Star Citizen and Ryse both use PBR.

    I just compared my scene from non-PBR to PBR (In Unity)...oh oh my! That is what I call triple AAA graphics from a hobbyist.

    Sorry if this is a stupid question. I still don't understand. Why there are others "physically based" terms beside "rendering" such as physically based shader, lighting, and even for animation. What's the meaning of those? What's the difference? Sorry if my English is terrible.

    Do I need an special monitor to see PBR?

    • @mleise8292
      @mleise8292 5 років тому

      No, not at all. PBR just means that the programmers based their graphics code more on actual world physics so artists don't need to worry about assets starting to look out of place when they tweak material settings. In earlier games objects could appear brighter than the moon lighting them etc.
      You need a new monitor if you want to use: high (10 bit) color depth in supported games/apps if you ever see what's called "color banding"; any of the competing HDR standards to better capture high contrasts between sunlight and shadows etc.; FreeSync or GSync to have less stuttering in gameplay.

      Unless you just learned about SC yesterday it's a little to late to be mad about anything at this point. Especially since I think the last revision of SC's TOS forbids it now. lol
