Loving these intros!! Great stuff & a great trip. We're glad everyone could make it out for another epic adventure on two wheels. Until next time! See ya down the road 😎 🇺🇸
Thanks guys! Thanks again for being our tour guides. You definitely showed us some great spots like Bisbee, Hackberry, Cool Springs, Sidewinder, Etc. Let do it again soon!
Thank you for taking me along! I made this ride as a young man in 1965 on a Triumph Tr-6 from Wash. D.C. to Ca. God bless you guys, hope to see you in heaven. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ!!!
What a great video. I rode Route 66 this summer. I ran into a guy on this badass Honda 250 (at least he thought it was) at a gas station in Kingman. He asked where we were headed and I told him Oatman. He told us not to waste our time, that it was a crappy road and Oatman was not worth the ride. BOY, was he wrong. I agree with Matt, Oatman was probably my favorite part of Old Route 66. We stopped at the Cool Springs Station and the flowers in the desert were in bloom. The burro's were pretty cool. They would stand in the middle of the road, blocking traffic, looking for a hand out. Oatman was never a town. Oatman was a mining camp and get's it's name from Olive Oatman. At 28:23 into the video, you will see a mural of Olive Oatman panted on the Oatman Restaurant & Ice Cream Saloon. Olive was 14 year old Mormon child, who's family was slaughtered by Indian's in 1851. She was held captive with her younger sister by the Yavapai Indian's and later traded to the Mohave Indian's. You will notice in the video that her face was tattooed, a tribal custom reserved for members of the Mohave Tribe. If you are interested in Western American history, look up the story of Olive Oatman. We ate at the Oatman Hotel Restaurant in July and it was a packed house so we ate at the bar. Oatman is over a 2,000 mile ride for me, but I am definitely looking forward to doing it again.
Danielle is like Waldo... here then gone. In my many travels I can honestly say that Route 66 is one of my favorites starting out of Chicago down to Joplin Tulsa, Amarillo (Oatman might have Donkeys) avoid the Amarillo it is like a massive rock with legs. Gallup, Kingman, and yes, Oatman is the best by Far... Clark Gable and Carol Lambard honeymoon in the Oatman Hotel. Yes Matt! best memories are with your pals on your bikes... Just like the Cowboys on their Horse... ~Enjoy the Ride
Great video. This is where I ilive..34 years now..from the SoCal Sewer....I forget how fortunate I am to live and ride here ...and take all this for granted. Thanks Matt for reminding me.
Matt, this was just another outstanding video and top notch narration. Love getting off the beaten path to ride these old sweepers. My pops rolled up thru there years ago, and found a great distressed leather cut and chaps in a leather shop there, that I’ve hung on to since he passed 7 years ago; I’ll never part with them. The Wild West is like no other. Ride those ares again in early Summertime, to eliminate the weather you just endured.
Have a great Thank from me ... for this absolute awesome and greatful Roadtrip / Roadride ... you all have made it in everything fantastic ... So my Heart and Feeling was very touched ... I wish you and your Crew a peaceful and happy End of this Year ... See you ... your Arne from the Northern Highlands of Germany
Im sitting at home freezing 🥶 my ass off in Chicago whille Matt and the Laidlaw crew ride through Route 66 . I can't ride my Street Glide St right now through my section of Rt 66 but at least I can watch Laidlaws ride through the winter so thanks its the next best thing.
Thank you Matt for the videos they were great. I have been putting off watching them because of their length. But I'm sitting here in Indiana with the temperature of 2°, and the wind blowing. Sitting in my chair with the heated blanket on perfect time to watch both videos thank you again. Ride safe.
Matt, I know how much work you guys put into the production and editing of these videos and we really appreciate the effort. You always deliver, so congrats and Merry Christmas.
Rode it twice in 1999 and 2000 . Texas to SoCal are the most complete parts . I wouldn't bother with the rest anymore . Hackberry is a town , you just can't see all the homes from there . To the left of that store are the towns mailboxes . Sadly the owners of the store have to hide their famous Corvette now due to outsiders from nearby trying to vandalize stuff at night . Cool springs was an abandoned building when I was last there . Burros, not donkeys 🤣 26:06 those steps go up to the goldfish bowl . You missed it 37:50 That building with the bright silver roof is now a musem. But it was used as a hotel in the movie 'How the west was won'. Thanks for the memories
Started following your blog after Sturgis with MDB. Addicted after watching Sturgis watched North Rim, Sedona. Now route 66. Love how you tell a story and love the history. New Addiction 🇦🇺🇺🇲
Going up the hill to Oatman I found myself in the 1930's driving a 4 cyl flathead Ford held together with baling wire and prayers from the passenger seats. Thank you for sharing, Ride Free
Another video that took me there. I cant wait to ride the 66. Life dream. Great video. Love how you transport the viewer. Especially if you ride Now I gotta go ride for real. Be safe all!!
Matt should have way more than 171K subs. I've been here long since he has been under 100k. The production quality of these videos has been top notch lately. Keep up the work.
Not only is Jerome an awesome town to hang out the people are stellar. I was immediately welcomed into the scene when I road through there last summer on my way back home from Born Free 13 in Silverado, CA.
Wow. The scenery got me really thrilled to live in America. And don't forget the music in this video, very wild west, and country-ish. I so love it. Ride safe, guys. Enjoy! ❤
Matt, I just watched this awesome video. I knew about Route 66 based upon the song "Route 66" and a few books I had read, and had mental images of it. The landscapes and businesses in your video were exactly what I had imagined it would look like. As always, your introduction provided historical background that really helps a viewer understand and enjoy the video. While I'll most likely never ride on Route 66, your video, makes me feel like I have. Part of what made this video so great for me was your use of the clips from Cars. My oldest son was 3 or 4 years old when Cars was released in 2006 and we took him to the theater to see it, and bought the DVD for him (that he watched so many times that the DVD wore out). I had forgotten that Cars told the story of Route 66 and the people (cars) and towns that were bypassed by the Interstate Highway System and US 40. Coincidentally, I own and ride a 2006 FXSTSI (the same year Cars was released and the final year the Motor Company produced the all-chrome front end Springer) that is in mint condition that I am going to give to my oldest son one day.
As always, great job on this series guys! I really enjoyed it. Also thanks for the hospitality a few weeks ago while I visited your dealership from NC!
Stayed at the Oatman Hotel the first time going to the Laughlin river run in '99. Beautiful area to ride except for the donkeys. Around any turn in the road they can be just standing in the middle of the roadway. The first time on Route 66 was in the early '70s headed to Tempe from Wisconsin. Took it easy on my 66th birthday on that highway in Winslow. Excellent video.
Great Job Matt. I road those same roads in early October after watching @2lanelife video. I also hit up th 89A through Sedona after watching your video. Enjoyed the historical sights.
Love these videos Matt. I appreciate all the time and effort you put into these. As someone who has rode all over Arizona but doesn't live anywhere near there (Nebraska) I felt like I was reliving my trip through every town you visited as those are all the same places I visited as well!
Oatman is such a fun place. You've done a great job and service to these attractions and beautiful places of history. Awesome ride and great production value!
As I watch this excellent video from small town Ontario. The weather forecast is for 15 to 30 centimeters of snow and high winds. What a great pre storm Video. I am going to have to ride Route 66 one day.
Arizona in general is not fun in the summer. Once Oven season is over with, Arizona is quite possibly one of the most beautiful places to explore in all of the Continental US. A full tank in my Road King and a day or two to get out of town... HEAVEN!
Thanks again to Matt for these awesome videos.. next time im in California i hope r tp meet Matt at the dealership.. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays..
I’m from New Zealand and just came through Oatman 2 weeks ago. The Oatman Hotel was absolutely pumping for lunch, and I had the best burger I’ve ever had. Circa 14hr BBQ meat. To die for. Staff amazing too.

Love these videos! Happy Holidays to the Laidlaw Crew! I’m excited to see more new adventures in 2023. 2023 will be the year I retire from the military with 23+ years of service to the nation. I’m wholeheartedly looking forward to spending more time on two wheels and experiencing times like these. Thank you for the inspiration!
Great video Matt, I did the same route 66 ride from Seligman, to Kingman, to Oatman and all in between back in April. Also, ate at the roadkill cafe. Best scenery I have ever experienced. That road into Oatman is no joke!! Keep the rubber side down brother.
