    By using 50 ml of methanol you ensure that the stove and chimney is warm which provide good draft in the chimney. That is a good way of eliminating backdraft and smoke in the cabin which is important in a boat. I use the following procedure on a similar regulator but a different pot burner stove for an outdoor tipi tent. I open the control valve just to make sure that diesel enters the pot. Then turn of the valve and squirt some methanol into the pot. I light the methanol and wait around one minute before opening the diesel control valve on the lowest setting. After some minutes the methanol has burned off and the stove then runs on diesel.

    Thanks for the video. Just bought a boat with one of these and gonna light it up the later today now with a lot better confidence.

    I find the Newport heater more user friendly. Thanks for showing your heater.

      You are right. The refleks is not designet for turning on and off on daily use. You lit it once and let it burn :-)

    Great, I just bought a Dufour 31, and it has a big stove in it. (twice it's big as yours). I don't know how to use it, so this is amazing!

    Nice little oven. But do you always have to remove the chimney for lighting the stove? Does it have no door for lighting and cleaning?

    • @SailingBlueBird
      @SailingBlueBird  Рік тому +1

      It has a small inspection hole next to the chimney. It is possible to light it through the inspection hole, but i find it more efficient to remove the chimney. removing the chimney is very easy and ehen you first lit the oven it runs for a long time.

    Hello! I also want to install this oven in my monsun! Does it heat the boat up well and does it also drie the boat out? Also why did you go for this model and not the one that can be mounted straight in the bulkhead? Best regards from Norway

      It a very efficient oven for cold climate. It will defently dry out your boat. I chose this model, because of a very good second hand deal. I might go for the cooking plate model if I ever should buy a new one. With the cooking plate, it is easier to inspect and do service. You can cook on it or place a thermo electric fan.

    Is there a difference between lighting up and turning on the stove?

    • @SailingBlueBird
      @SailingBlueBird  2 роки тому +2

      I guess it is a linguistically question. In my opinion you "light a fire", or you can "turn on" fx a stove by pressing a button. Starting a Refleks M66 is like lighting up a fire :-)

    Do these not need a drip tray underneath them, in case of fuel being spilt? I was wondering where the air intake holes were and if, for example, the boat was knocked down or heeled badly, if the fuel would spill? Like you, I bought one of these second hand at a good price but have not fitted it yet. I was thinking of converting it to 66MW, in order to draw in the cold air from the cabin sole. Refleks sells a replacementb bottom section for them.
    Although they work, I'm surprised they didn't develop a more simple & cleaner way to light them.
    How much fuel do you use?
    Thanks.

      Drip tray is recomended. I have been thinking of a tube from the overflow outlet from the regulator, to a tank in the bilge or under the bunk.

      The air intake holes are forming a ring in the top of the burner pot. While it is burning there is not much liquid fuel in the pot, at lowest power, it might be none at all. But a knock down would let the regulator leak. It could be fun doing a healing test with the oven outside the boat.

      I did a test on fuel consumption. At lowest and highest, pretty close to the given numbers on the regulater.

      @@SailingBlueBird Are potential drips only likely through from the regulator? I was trying to work out where the air intakes to the combustion chamber were, they seem to be fairly low down, and wondered if they might come through them, e.g. if the flame was extinguished, and the flow not switched off.
      I wondered also how complete a combustion happened, & if much CO came off the stove & flue inside the cabin.
      I have a fairly water tight cabin & was thinking that I might need to plan an air intake somewhere sheltered. Apparently it takes about 10x the volume of air to burn the diesel.
      Some of the stoves can be ordered with a separate flue for the air intake, so only air from outside is consumed. In the old Danish fishing boats, they use them in sealed wheelhouses or even engine rooms. Thanks.

    You do much work to light heater... And you dont seem to have an outside fuel filter and Waterseparator on the fuel line. An ok regulator will not let in fuel when it cloesed, if you need to shut if the "fuel valve" all the time you have problems with the regualtor shut off.
    And you use to much alcohol to ligt up the heater. The easy way with an good regulator is keept the fuel valve open, set the regulator to pilot position, let some diesel run in to heater. put just some little alcholol into heater.. and light up the stove with some toailet paper. after some minits you can increase the regulator... I have used refleks for 10 years and lot diffrent models and no problem if good clean fuel and good regualtor.. any way you do lot of misstakes.. mayby it works for you..

      Thank you for your helpful information.
      I just followed the instruction manual from Refleks. I will try your way of preheating next time.
      And I will add a filter and water separator. It might avoid a clogged fuelsystem in the future.

      @@tjornpartietkommunpolitike1083 you have a good eye for details 🙂
      The reason for the cleaning stick is mounted the wrong way, Is that it wont stick too far out and being in the way. When burning the stove, the stick must not be too close to the buring chamber.
