  • 60 Minutes pure avation, this time only airplanes made in russia or ukraine so basicly lots of Antonov, Ilyushin and Tupolev airplanes. My favorite airpalen from ukraine is the red/blue painted Antonov An74 airplane which wears the nickname "Mickey Mouse plane". I always enjoy filming airplanes which look very unique. The Antonov An22, the biggest propeller plane in the world is probably the most unique aircraft in this compilation. I filmed it twice, in Oostende in 2018 and in Leipzig in 2020. You won` t find the Antonov An225 Myria in this video because I still haven` t filmed it yet but I am quite optimistic it will happen soon.
I also included two Tupolev TU154`s in this video, filmed at Cologne and Eindhoven. During approach the TU154` s deployed the reversers before touchdown which is quite characteristic for a few russian planes. The Ilyushin IL62 usually deploys the reversers before touchdown aswell. The IL62 is now banned in european airspace and I was very happy I saw it in Maastricht two times in summer 2021. The operator of this IL62 is Rada Airways.

til you see the sleek DHL planes... These Russian planes look like they are made to carry vehicles and lots of cargo in and out of short, poorly-maintained runways. Some low-bypass engines. I'm guessing not he best fuel economy. Built like a brick whatever. Planes only a babushka could love. Or someone stranded in the remote tundra with a short landing strip and they need a new truck. Fun to watch - nice video.

1:08:40 The RA-76842 and it's crew was captured by the taliban and taken to kandahar in 1995. After a year of being prisoners, and forced to teach talibans to operate the plane, the russian crew managed to take down the guards while doing maintenance and managed to take their plane off the ground and escape. This one is still working today for this company.

22:12 Soloviev D-30 is a noisy hell of an aircraft engine 🤭 I witnessed a Tu-154 take off once at Vnukovo, Moscow. I was in the terminal, waiting for my plane to start boarding passengers - and I can testify that this sound is something to behold. It looks Russia already made a Tu-214ON to replace this Tupolev Tu-154M-ON and stop terrorizing Europeans and Americans with THIS, but now Treaty on Open Skies is in tatters.

How can you not understand such a simple thing that these planes are Soviet? Not Russian and not Ukrainian. It was a single country with centralized management, and when a decision was made in Moscow to create a factory and a design bureau in the Urals, Far East or Ukraine, no one thought then, they simply could not imagine that this unified system of cooperation would someday collapse. Can you understand that? These plants were created by the efforts of the whole country. The engineering and design potential has always been mainly Russian. The enterprise in Ukraine has never been and could not be purely Ukrainian, and when the new Ukrainian leaders refused to maintain industrial cooperation with Russian factories, they did to Russia and Ukraine equally badly, because their products are not needed by anyone except Russia. Therefore, Ukraine is no longer building anything at all, while some new Russian aircraft cannot reach mass production, and others have serious problems at the development stage.
