La Bourdonnais Storms Pawns & Morphy Smothers | Games to Know by Heart - GM Ben Finegold

- Grandmaster Ben Finegold tours through two games from the 19th century. McDonnell has pawns thrown at him by La Bourdonnais in the first unofficial world championship match and Paul Morphy executes a smothered mate on an oddly-named opponent.

I thought the answer was that Morphy said "class dismissed."
The best part of Ben Finegold videos isn't really his analysis but more him roasting kids for 25 min straight.
So what did Paul Morphy do ?
1.He cried then
2.He took a bow then
3.He laughed then
4.He went to Starbucks then
5.He didn't knew what to do so
6.He dropped the mike.( which means he gave tombstone to Mike kummer)
Im so happy i was a part of that exchange
7. He shot the arbitor
8. comitted suicide
9. Came back as a Zombie and won all his games
Dude f8's attacked, DUDE !!!
Finegold and La Bourdonnais, it doesn't get much better.
Ben's older lectures are best, (like this one) particularly when he has children in the class.
Finegold lecturing about Morphy, unmissable
"Games to know by heart" - Finegold. Also, Finegold: "I have no idea what he played." LOL that's good stuff.
GO GRANDMASTER BEN FINEGOLD!!

Ich dont think so

Grandmaster Ben Finegold is my spirit animal

For the final Ben Finegold lecture for a while that was probably the best and funniest I have watched!!
"Smother Nature"
I love this man so damn much!

20:10
-what is this?
=it's a chess game 😂😂
I love you Grandmaster Finegold
Phoenix are you a gay?
He is just internacional master
I have the Labourdonnais game in my "mammoth book of the greatest chess games" 1834, 4th match, 16th game :D
lol, probably the worst game list would be a much more fitting one lol
I love this guy
Nice to hear Ben mentioning Lubos Kavalek (yes, I was born in CS) ;-)
Mr. Finegold, you are the funnyiest CHess Grandmaster, hahahahahahah
04:04 , c4 is Explosiveeeeee
Only 25min! terrible!!!
Very suspicious.
What do you want from me
Looks like a position from hell
The best timeline!
Bam! Finegold
Ben, the waist growth results from eating too much fish bourdonnaise and smoking too much morphyum, too.
lol
Great ben finegold
Oh man, at 4:00 when white played C4 my computer died... And I'm not kidding, the screen went black, it started doing funny noises and I had to reboot it xΔ
I'm not making that stuff up, it really happened! Well know I believe Ben, C4 is explosive indeed!
@13:13 the only way I can think of to queen, with checkmate, while protecting the queening square; from the queen, with a pawn. That's how you smother someone who is up a rook with pawns in style... Seriously.
I thought Morphy called his smother!
lol xD
3:44 Wouldn't bishop A6 be the best move here for black, instead of trading the pawn back?
No, White has Bc4. :-)
Bc4 is possible with no back pawn on d5
I'd go for c2-c4 instead.
Ah, true.
Games to Know by Heart as told before
did Ben leave Atlanta?
What did Morphy do? He went to Disneyworld!
Do these lectures help you get better at chess and get higher rating win against better players etc?
Yup
I actually think Kd7 in all 3 moves for black in the Morphy games, they're by far the most obvious moves.
Five Bens in the same building? I see the equivalent of two Bens on screen, so who were the other three Bens?
7:13
He breathed
'62, correct
23:35
Smooth Carlsen Moves Eh?
The games La Bourdonnais lost was only because he was bored.
Someone's laughing like a dork in the background
The eye-move after "guessing" 1995 at 4:13
King d7...lmao
Is this kids class? Ben trolling always haha.
In total agreement with GM Ben...Morphy is the greatest chess player ever lived. Imagine him with all the knowledge of chess theory n computer assistance if he was alive today. His ELO would be 3000. Morphy was ahead of the curve by a long way. He was the genius of chess much like Einstein in physics and Mozart in music. Class dismissed!
Arjun: F6? 😂
First game is quite famous, seen it a few times. Yaah I wish modern players played like white more
they do, but then black stops them...
We want Johnathan lectures and akobian middlegame lecture and Ben's lecture also on middlegame and endgames
He went to Starbucks? 😂😂
Saw him in real life no big deals
Deal
What if Morphy wasn't actually playing bad moves? Instead, he knew how bad his opponent was, so he thought what his opponent would play if he played that, leading to a shorter game. I mean, If you play against weak people, you go for tricks and you hope they don't see them ( and they don't, because that is why they are weak )
I found Kd7 because everything else looked like resigns immediately. If I'm Morphy and I calculate that Kd7 is the best move for black, I assume I'm winning.
3 in a row .... god is exist
At the end morphy castled
raarrrrrr!!! (Ben is awesome)
also.. i would have also played the worst move xD i would have taken the knight..
the smothered mate was really beautiful
(9:15)
class dismissed
The games are not analyzed properly by Finegold (boo): after Bd8 (in the first game, 8:50), what if QXd8 and then Rc8 (Qb6 for black runs into RXf2 threatening Rf8 and mate)
After that can't black just play Kg8?
Bring back Muke Kummer please. I am his biggest fan.
11:10 Czech Republic is wrong these days it's Czechia so you're all wrong. 😆
clickbait thumbnail
berates his students with sarcasm, i feel bad for that kid argen in particular. Ben you look like your sarcam ...'for Argen ;) wish i could block just his videos from chess searches, thumbnail just puts me in bad mood.
You should by his book Cry like a grandmaster. Right Arjun? "Right."
