The right man with the right tools, very profesional.
Very good work.
I did it the same way at the same position.
Great video! I watched another "how to" for this same mod and it was more of what they did after the fact than actually going through it step by step. I appreciate the effort! New subscriber.
Kevin Ankin thanks for the feedback! Keep an eye out for more coming soon....
Kevin Ankin 😂 We did the exact same thing then.
Great video! Very informative. My only concern is the clearances with the handlebar when a usb cable is plugged into the port. It looked a little tight in the video.
Maybe there are some cables on the market that would hit, but everyone I've tried so far have been fine. Ride on
Thanks. I went ahead and installed a battery tender brand SAE to usb charger today in my 2015 FZ09. I installed it using highway toll transponder click-lock Velcro into the right side fork well plastics, perpendicular to the vin sticker. That type of Velcro is made for taking bumps and extreme temperatures. It is tucked neatly out of the way, yet easily accessible when needed. Even though my install used a different location and port , your video helped make the install simple. I ordered the parts you recommended for utilizing the factory power port. That crimping tool could use some instructions though, I sort of just winged that. I broke a couple connector pins before getting it right. Getting the wiring correct is 90% of the battle with any install like this, so learning all that in your video was crucial. Thanks again!
Thank you! Was looking for a walk-through on how to work up those connectors :)
I chose the same installation location, but used a much higher quality USB port with manual shutdown and voltage display. Connection directly via battery ... so charging is also possible
The accessory plug turns off with the key
@@MotoSouth funktioniert leider nicht so wie gedacht, daher habe ich es direkt an die Batterie angeschlossen
Very clear and detailed, I’ve been looking for this!
Will this work on the 2021 model as well? The connector seems to be the same.
Should be the same 👍
Nice video. Thanks for posting and especially putting the links in the description. I appreciate it. Nice work. Was there a change with the connectors? Updated 12/18?
Thanks and yes, I updated the link on the connectors to the ones that match the factory plug.
Great video.
1. At what length did you make your cut (approximately) on the USB cable?
2. How did you measure your dremmel cuts...matching exactly the dimensions of the USB casing? Looks like there is a notch at the bottom of the USB casing that would make it difficult to pass through a tightly measured hole.
I really don’t remember what the length of the cable was but you can kind of hold it in position to figure it out. There is room under the inside panel to hide any excess if it ends up a little long. As for the hole, I measured the size of the usb and transferred the measurements to the tape I placed over the area I wanted to cut. The notch can be forced into the opening that you cut out without much trouble.
Great video, made the job nice and simple
Wow I had no idea that my Fz09 had these. I gotta go check lol.
Where did you find the things you put on the wires to plug into the grey acc. connectors??
I have a link in the description but it’s probably dated. I’m sure they are available still from another seller on amazon though
@@MotoSouth I did some research and found some knock-offs (I’m assuming) on eBay. Thank you sooo much for your knowledge and your videos! Your videos are so detailed and legit compared to others by miles. You sir, are the man! So ahead of the rest. If it wasn’t for your Pro Taper handle bar video I would’ve never had the confidence to do it. Again, you are THE MAN! Thank you!
EDIT: btw, I’m adding a voltage meter not a USB so I’m just assuming it will work with the acc plug?? I hope so🤞, do you think it will be fine? Or would you tap into different wires? If so which would you use? Sorry for the long comment but I’ve asked different FB groups and no one will reply 😞
@TheMrChaddles the voltage meter should work just fine. All it does is read the voltage provided to the circuit when the key switch is on which should give you battery voltage with engine off and charging voltage with engine running.
I watched many videos trying to figure out what type of connector types these were. Those videos would tease me by flashing brief glimpses of the connectors and some would say that you need the pins but they never mentioned where to get them till now.
Thank you for this very detailed video and your timely updates. I ordered my connector kit from Amazon Canada :

Hey MotoSouth, did you have any clearance issues with that metal tab on the tank right behind where you made your cut on the plastic center piece? Thanks for the most detailed video yet on such an install!
As long as you use the bend of the plastic as a guide for the front cut you should be fine.
Thanks for that, hope to see more mods from you soon!
hey dude, can you make a video how to lowering all the suspension so that it can reduce seat height. but is it gonna be a problem for the performance?
Great location and great video. Can you please tell me which usb you used for this? Thank you!
Asif Khattak link should be in the description 👍
MotoSouth, yes thank you, I saw it after I sent the message. Thank you for your response. Have a great day!
That’s an awesome how to video. It definitely came out as a clean setup. Looked pretty easy to install. Keep up the good work with the videos. 🤛👌
+PhatBoyR6 Thanks! It was an easy and much needed upgrade. Now I don't have to worry about my phone dying when listening to music on long rides
I might to do that or figure something out usually go out with a full battery since I use my phone to control my drone.
The new usb plug is updated. Do you have anything updated for it?
I have a simple question, what did you use to secure the USB box to the plastic ? And how did you do it? Can't seem to find a video where they show that. Thanks for the great video man
Just cut the hole so that the USB fits tightly. It will stay in place. If by chance you cut a little too much, you can always use some black silicone or something similar on the underside to hold it in.
Ok thank you, I will try it on my bike now 👍
THANKS!
Very nice work, and video. Great result.
Thank you!
The charger changed, it now has a USB end. Did you just clip yours off and add the new plugs like in the video. I have the part and I was gonna clip the USB plug off but thought I’d check first.
They keep changing the design but that's all you need to do is cut the end and splice to the plug
MotoSouth yea...it took me a couple of times to watch the video before it made sense. Mine looked different
I will do this to my Mt but with wireless charging pad on the ram mount! great video :)
Great idea! I thought about adding a wireless pad to mine as well.
Did you have to purchase the connectors separately?
You only need the inner spades if your blank connector is still on the bike
Thanks for the video. The plug connector you linked on Amazon, it doesn’t seem to be available. Do you have another link to get those connectors?
I’ll look into it
This is what you'll need.... parts 6187-2311 and 6180-2321 you can get them in either black or white here.... www.cycleterminal.com/mt-series-090.html
MotoSouth thanks so much! You’re awesome!
They are available at ebay. Just paste in search bar "Yamaha DC Power Outlet Connector Plug MT07 MT09 FZ07 Heated Grips USB Charger"
Which colored wire from the USB end plugs into the positive of the auxiliary from the bike?
It’s been a while so I don’t remember the color. I think I show it in the video though. If not, you can use a volt meter to see which one has voltage with the key on.
what I'm saying, which color of the usb do you use on the positive of the aux?
Awesome thanks for this!
Taran Shergill no problem. Thanks for watching!
Do you have a video showing where to find and change the fuse for the external power- socket which is placed on the left side of the instrumentpanel? The instructions in the Manual forthefusebox are false!
No I don't. Do you have access to a service manual? Maybe it would tell you which one is correct.
Thanks for a good how to video.
+Silverim Thanks, planning more soon.
Does the aux connector only fit one way?
The plug can only go in one way, yes
How did you get the rubber plugs? Cheers.
I have a link in the description for the plug
@@MotoSouth sorry I missed a few words. How did you get the original black rubber plugs out? Mine are a bit deep down the socket.
hi does it has the problem of draining the power?
Not at all. It only works when the engine is running
Do you know of the 2014 has that accessory connection
If I remember correctly there are 2 accessory plugs on the 2017+ and one on the 2014-2016. It may be on the other side though. All you need to do is pull the side panel to check.
@@MotoSouth thanks for the advice appreciate it
Thanks ! :)
Could you also use waterproof heat-shrink butt connectors instead??
DOUBLE0SEVEN that is an option, I just wanted to utilize the factory accessory plug and avoid cutting it off.
MotoSouth ok thanks for the video and fast response! Ride safe!
MotoSouth One more question, is there a benefit of user the extra auxiliary connector on the bike to do this over connecting the wires straight to the battery? Will it drain the battery?
My outlet that I bought has the connections to be connected straight to the battery
DOUBLE0SEVEN I like the fact that the accessory wiring is switched off with the key switch. This way it's only drawing from the battery when the key is on.
MotoSouth Makes sense! Thanks again!
Hi.. help pls. does this configuration works only when engine is switch on? If engine off the usb does not power up? Thank you.
Yes. The accessory circuit is powered only when the key switch is on.
MotoSouth thank you. Will be getting them from aliexpress. Ur video really helps a lot.
What year is your FZ09?
2017
Bro is this bike currently for sale on craigslist?
Absolutely not
MANTAP
What kind of crimper do you use???
+Jeff RT It's one I got off of Amazon. The link is in the description. It's a great tool to have in your toolbox.
MotoSouth ok, thanks.
excellent vid 👌👌👍
Thank you!
Will this work on the 2014 models?
It sure will. I know the older models have at least one accessory plug but I'm not positive that it has one on each side. Just find the plug and you're good to go. Ride safe!
MotoSouth Thank you. Just bought a 2014 FZ09 and really wanting to be able to charge my phone on the go.
Well. Now that I've seen this, I think I have to do it.
Manatherindrell it's easy to do and a must have in my opinion. Let me know if you have any questions, I'd be happy to help out. Thanks for watching.
got mine with the fuse and i tap it on my batt
toy Soulja that works too. I went with the accessory plug because I wasn't going to use it for anything else, and because it turns off and on with the key.
Hi mate, do you have a link or part no. for the factory accessories plug you used, I'm looking at doing the same thing and want to use same accessories plug
Thanks mate
The plug is on the bike from the factory. All you need are the parts I list in the description to utilize it.
