Thank you for saying that there is a little Michael Scott in all of us. I’ve always related to him more than probably most of the other characters on the office. And I’ve always felt ashamed of that. But I shouldn’t. Because Michael is pretty great. Two of my favorite Michael moments: season 4, he’s working at the telemarketing place and the employees there love him. Season 3: Michael shows up to Pam’s art show and makes her night by telling her her is really proud of her.
Hey Anthony! Just wanted to say I really like what you said at 20:20. "[Michael Scott] is an amplification of the human experience." It got me thinking why we're aware of these emotions (insecurity, anxiety, pride etc.) only when they're exaggerated. I'm guessing that it's because human emotions are complex, highly variable and therefore hard to isolate and analyze. So, when you AMPLIFY these emotions, i.e. in the form of Michael Scott, it's much easier to learn about them and why they are/aren't useful in forming relationships. Keep up the great work!
i NEED a ryan and kelly analysis 😆. they're just so ridiculous together but also have such a natural pull towards each other. & the fact that mindy + bj also, apparently, have had an on and off relationship during the show is wild
Anthony, your ability to analyze people always amazes me, you even thought of things I have never thought of (I'm an actor, so basically 50% of my work is analyzing people). I always learn a lot from you! Thanks.
You should react to Amy and Jake's relationship from Brooklyn Nine Nine or even Eleanor or Chidi's relationship from The Good Place! Both relationships are so good and I wanna see you react to them.
yes!! i would LOVE to see eleanor and chidi just because of how opposite they seem on the surface, but they really balance each other out in the long run.
For Michael, it's super easy to see his traits and way of thinking. He looks at people who are successful and loved by society and tries to be them. When he tries to impress people and get people to like him, he turns on the persona that he's created from watching people on tv. All the comedians he sees, all those dating show stars. The problem is, it turns off just about everybody. Because those people are loved for more than just their attitude or their jokes. It's about who they are that they are broadcasting to the world. When Michael tries to mimic someone like Chris Rock, he comes off as very racist because he doesn't see behind the punchlines of who Chris Rock is and that Chris Rock is admired as a person and a POC Icon. Just taking their jokes doesn't make him that lovable and funny guy that people look up to. He instead just becomes a person who is constantly trying to be a bunch of other people. And it's hard to get someone to like you if you aren't being you. Sorry, I know this is very long but I really enjoyed writing this.
I would love to see a video about Jim and Pam. Specifically when they have a rough patch towards the later episodes, because that's the only time we really get to see them deal with real life relationship/marriage issues.
So, about the arguing, this is something I idolized my parents for: Whenever my mom would got frustrated, or there was something that wasn't clearly conveyed between my mom and dad. My mom would state her problem and what she thought on the situation. Then my dad, would not object to anything, he would simply say "I'm sorry, I misunderstood, here is what *I thought* you said." This would be vice versa when my mom didn't understand something my dad said. Never once would they lower the other person, or yell at them. But, if one of them was already frustrated by other things and one ended up yelling, the other didn't respond with a louder scream, they would stay at a low, and calm voice level. Here is my thought: arguing isn't always necessarily a bad thing, however, when you argue with your S.O. through yelling, screaming, and putting them down, that is not healthy. It is almost impossible to not argue with someone, you just need to find a way to convey your point and come to a conclusion more politely and less vulgar.
29:43 through the end of the little thought will literally influence my life forever. Thank you so much for being your true, authentic self and sharing this with all of us
Mr Anthony, I understand that it did not reach 5k likes, but the content you made with your understanding and lessons are so compelling and heart warming. Would love to watch more office couple breakdowns just like these!
Anthony, that is exactly what my problem is. I have no problem being myself in front of most people, which is probably why I make such good, solid friends. But I get nervous when I find someone I like and so I overthink things. It's not that I try to appear overly cool, I just get more quiet and awkward when I'm not normally like that and people end up seeing me as more acquaintance/friend material. However, I'm very good at being vulnerable in front of guys that I don't like. Which means that I end up with people that like me that I don't like. And then it takes me a while to confirm it for sure and then find a kind way to reject them. I love your channel. So many things seem obvious but much easier said than done.
Thanks for your comment Victoria! Treat everyone like a best friend and don’t consider anyone a prospective partner until you’ve been with them a while. This helps. 🙏🏻
I feel like you changed the entire way I view dating and putting myself out there JUST from watching you talk about Michael! I’ve started a new note in my phone on tips you said and I’m pretty excited!! 😁😁
13:45 that happened to me several times in my life, but instead of going into my "date self" i always freak out and go back into my "clam shell" and become timid af, then i can't interact with people anymore

That thing you said about talking to someone normally n switching back to our date version the moment we notice theyre turned on, making them unattracted to us just summed up my entire life, holyshit.
This actually happened in college for me too. I went to an event not trying to attract this girl but she ended up being super attracted to me. I noticed this later on and turned on the date version of me. It turned her off of me. Later on, we were all hanging out with friends and I noticed she was attracted to this other guy so I wasn’t the date version of me and focused on having a good time. She was then attracted to me again. She ended up becoming my gf for a couple of years. So I resonate with everything you say. Love you, Tony. I don’t know if ya like that name but....
