Simply immerse coarse coffee grounds or tea in cold water for 12 to 24 hours. When the time is up, unplug the stopper and allow the cold brew to filter through one of the two reusable filters into the glass decanter. It’s simple and forgiving, but the quality is stellar.
The resulting cold brew coffee concentrate is smooth, rich, refreshing, and has a low acidity and bitterness. It’s quite versatile and can be cut with cold water, hot water, milk, and a variety of other liquids.

You seem quite caffeinated friend!
Or he's been sniffing powdered donuts
The reason to use coarsely ground coffee for cold brew is not because it will or will not clog up your filter! I've heard this several time now. There are other ways to make cold brew where you can just use a regular filter and you'd still want to use coarse coffee. The main reason is because of how it affects the taste.
Otherwise great instructions - straight to the point!
watching this at 1.25x speed is like watching someone who's had too much cold brew haha
Es super fácil de usarla la verdad me gusta mucho mi cafetera
I've been using a Toddy for well over 40 years. Mine doesn't even have a handle. I broke the carafe long ago, so I use a pitcher to drain it. Since I'm the only coffee drinker, I freeze about half the brew and keep the rest in a jar in the fridge. I will do a second brewing over the grounds, using one coffee-can full of water instead of 2 like the first one. I like French Market brand coffee with chicory, and just today, I tried it (2 TBS.) for butter coffee.
So wait, you make the first round of cold brew and then instead of disposing the grounds, you use it for one more run? How does this effect the flavor of the brew?
@@OnlyCoMpleXCS It tastes the same, except I use 2 TBS. for the first brew per cup and 3 TBS. for the second one. You can always add more if you like it stronger.
thanks john waters!
Any time! 😂 English or American btw?
Curious what size on Encore Grinder you used for the grounds?
25 - 28 👌
what setting did you use on the Baratza Encore grinder?
I would use a 26+ on the encore 👍
thank you! this is very helpful!
How often should I replace my filter?
As often as necessary. you'll notice it getting blacker, clogged up with fine grinds and coffee dust over-time. You can boil them to keep them cleaner for longer, but you'll eventually see that it will be very slow to filter the coffee out and this is a good time to replace it.
I wish the brew container came with its own lid (reusable) rather than plastic wrap (disposable) needing to be used.
Me too!
I got one today which has a silicone lid in the box for the brew container
Yeah maybe it’s a new feature but I just got one & it has a silicone lid! 😊
I put a small plate over the top while it's brewing.
Umm, plate? foil? bowl? book?
You're quite like Gordon Ramsay when you talk. I noticed that bouncing motion while you are speaking 😁.
hahaha Gordon does that? hmmm - it think it comes from being on your feet all day as a barista, or in his case a Chef - constantly shuffling and moving about - having to than stand still and talk is hard 😂 I've restored to sitting on a stool bc of it 👍
Did you say that we can keep it in the fridge for two weeks?
yes
@@AlternativeBrewing Thank you!
Is 200 grams of coffee your using equivalent to the 12 oz bag of coffee recommended by Toddy? I've tried this a few times and can't seem to get the ratios right.
it's relatively close yes. 12oz is 340g - but if you work off a ratio of 1:10 then your cold brew should be tasty! so 200g coffee to 2L water. I'm using grams to millilitres.
From Toddy, "For the best flavor, start with 12 ounces (340 g) of coarsely ground coffee and 7 cups (56 fl. oz./1.65 L) of filtered water by volume."
@@pjcondon466 i use this ratio. Basically 200g for 1 litre of water, room temp for up to 24 hours. Got the best coffee concentrated. Stored in the fridge for up to 3 weeks. Diluted 1:2 part of water or milk. It taste better than commercially sell cold brew coffee.
@@saifulbahrimahfuz what coffee do you use?
@@tomcowsert8962 i use locally roasted arabica bean. roasting level medium.
Aren’t we supposed to use a filter??
Yes. The main one is the fabric filter - but you can also use a paper one too to place the grounds in.
Stupid question, are the 200grams weighted in whole bean or ground?
Correct.
You want to place 200g of ground coffee in the Toddy.
I know this is an old comment, but I thought I should let you know anyways. Weight (200 grams) is not effected by if it is ground or not. Only volume would be effected, which is how much space the coffee takes up in the container. 200 grams of unground coffee will also weigh 200 grams once ground. I hope I don't sound rude or anything, I just wanted to give you an answer. It's not a stupid question at all.
Why can't I stir the coffee..I always stir. :/
How much coffee is that???
It will make 2L of brewed coffee, from 200-250g of ground coffee.
@@AlternativeBrewing So in your video theres two cups of coffee grounds, is there 100g in each?
What about tea?
Yeah for sure!
Why shouldnt you stir?
You can unsettle the filter in the base, or with stirring you have the grounds swelling up and settling directly in the middle on top of the filter that will results in it blocking up when it comes time to emptying it.
Best remedy for this is using a disposable or reusable mesh bag. The new Toddy's come with both a few of those and a silicone lid for the top.
And made in USA 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
Do you need to pee?
yeah - wish it wasn;t so obvious 😂
You need to cut back on the coffee dude. You shake uncontrollably.
Why would someone will buy this? Just immerse your coffee into literally any container then filter it with sieve or filters you use for drip coffee.
it's not a bad way of doing it either - but for 2Lt batches with consistent results the Toddy is hard to go by
