I started scrubbing and I love it so far. It’s mostly been shadowing a surgical tech and doing things here and there but I like it a lot. I also got to assist today and it was pretty cool.

I have a question it would be great if you could help me , Can both surgical techs and RNs assist surgeons in surgery? So What is the difference? If RNs want to become scrub , Do they need to certification or sth?

Hi! So to answer your question, both jobs do assist surgeons during surgery. If you become an OR nurse you do not need a certificate to scrub, this will be part of your training. Circulators can circulate and scrub. Scrub techs are only allowed to scrub. Major difference is compensation and education.

Can you explain how you got into the OR speciality and is it recommended for new grads to apply?

@BritneyA- Hey girl! I got very lucky, I got into the OR as a new grad. I applied to a BUNCH of hospital OR's and the one I ended up getting was in a rough neighborhood but I ended up accepting because I really wanted the OR! Now 3 years later I'm still happy in the OR! I know when I was a new grad people told me to start in med surg but that was never something I wanted to do, and overall I'm glad I went straight to the OR! Couldn't imagine working as a floor nurse after being in the OR for so long!

@@CaitHawkins girl SAME I am not even in clinicals yet and I KNOW I do not want to work as a regular floor nurse, NO THANK YOU. I have listened to 1,000 “why I left the bedside” videos and having worked as a CNA, I have seen those nurses running around like chickens w their head cut off. I also plan to hold out until I get what I want. No need to work right away
