    Greg, instead of using the pickle fork, smack the part of the knuckle where the ball joint seats with a good sized hammer. This way you don't tear the grease boot getting everything apart.

  • @waynetaylor2231
    @waynetaylor2231 6 років тому

    Being your in there might as well put some moog ball joints in vs replacing the boots you won't have to worry about dealing with it again small price to pay while it's torn apart than putting some universal grease boot that won't seal properly. Love the channel Greg keep it up!! Congrats on you and the misses with baby #1 wish you the best keep up the content. Best wishes from Idaho

    Ouch!!! on smacking the hand, it looked swelled up, I know that had to hurt!!!....Glad to hear the family is doing well.... I guess if I was on a budget trying to save some money I would just replace the covers on the ball joints, but if ya could find them cheep enough may be money ahead to change them... Thanks for all the video's!! I am a Ford powerstroke owner but I enjoy watching ya work on Dodges because I believe there is good and bad in all brands..

I have an 06 Duramax crew LT LBZ that I tow my toys with and use for daily driver. Make sure you take care of your wife and spend time with her now because once chidren enter the picture your time will be much more limited. I am sure you know this. I have twin boys and they are now 17 so I kind of have my freedom back. Enjoy every minute with them though.

    For warning if you do the ball joints the upper ball joints are thread in, not press. Not sure if you knew that but I wish the people that did the ball joints on mine before I did knew that because they pressed them out and welded new ones in. Got the special socket at autozone it’s oem I think it was $30 and they won’t know what you are talking about when you say a ball joint socket. But good luck, love the channel.

    If the truck hasn't been driven hard, wouldn't worry about changing ball joints bc those old 2wd's unless driven hard didn't have ball joint problems unlike the 2003 and up 4wd front ends and if your installing 7226s coil springs, ride will improve 100% and should give u about a 2-3" lift on front

    I find ball joints let go if you lean a lump hammer on the opposite side and whack it 2 or 3 times. Usually pops. Look after that hand. I’m nursing a fractured finger from hitting it too.

      Agree, I’ve never once used a pickle fork, all they do is rip the boot, ok if you’re replacing it but otherwise it just ruins a good part. Couple good smacks in the sweet spot and it’ll pop

    Greg use the spring pressure of the truck take the nut almost all the way loose but not all the way pop loose whichever one you want to do first also have the steering taken loose if you need more spring pressure you can put a block of wood in between the a arm and the frame it will hold it up and give more spring tension with the steering turn loose you can turn the knuckle so you can get a better swing at it sometimes the lowers are still stubborn then you can put the biggest pry bar you can find that will fit in between the knuckle and the a arm if you're doing it on the ground you can hold your foot on the fry bar while you take another swing at it it will pop loose for sure then when both joints are popped Slide the Jack under the A on raise it up and take the two nuts off
