Thank you! I really agree with making things a routine. That has really helped me. And i used to HATE washing the dishes, but once i started to listen to videos while i did so, like you said, it tricked my brain into actually liking doing it! Thank you for being a blessing!

Abby this was SO ON POINT👏🏻👊🏻💖
I have been married for 28 years and a mother for 27 of those 28 years and this is pretty much how I operate the household duties😎 I will admit it took a while(late 30’s) to finally have a workable operation.
We pretty much started out marriage with children and I worked outside the home the first half of our marriage… so it definitely was more “survival” than “planned”😅
But now we are empty nesters and I still have my “Home to do’s” list🙌🏻
I absolutely take pride and find so much gratitude in creating and maintaining a space that is welcoming and comforting to everyone who walks through my front door🏡💖🙏🏻
Btw - You are glowing 👶🏻💙🙏🏻

Love this video! I take care of the house and my fiancé takes care of the property we own. He definitely helps me every night after dinner and when I'm feeling sick as I've had recent health issues he has kept up with the house and the outdoors. I enjoy cleaning and I listen to music or put on a Disney movie I've seen 100 times as background noise. I'm going to buy that book off of Amazon for sure! Thank you Abby for this informative video! 🥰

I love this. I am a person who loves to clean and that schedule could help alot of people. Also a personal thing I do is if I go on an overnight trip or vacation I do a deeper clean before I leave. That way when my family and I come home it feels relaxing and not like I walk in to a million things I need to do.

The thing is - my threshold of "it's now time to clean, because I'm starting to feel uncomfortable with everything being a mess" is soooo much lower than my husband's. Even though we both work and take care of our kid, I feel the urge to clean and make the house look presentable time and time again long before him. But I don't mind it actually - he is so grateful and happy to live in our beautiful home, does small tasks I hand over to him with a smile on his face because he gets to do his part and I can actually take pride in the home we're building. Not to say it never gets annoying, but you can absolutely grow to like it.

I'm quite young myself but I've worked next to many professional cleaners and the number one thing they said to me is that you need to clean in the right order.
1: cleaning tasks that require chemicals to soak and can be going while you do other things (spraying your toilet or bathtub, start the laundry machine etc)
2: top to bottom (start from the ceiling down because dust and dirt always settles on lower spots as you go)
3: tidy before you clean (when everything is in its designated place cleaning is so much easier)
4: wet areas and spaces first (get done with dusting and move on with your kitchen and bathrooms as these are the most time consuming. Also any chemicals have had time to work)
5: sweep, vacuum and mop last (it's the easiest task therefore you can do it last when you're a little tired and any dust or dirt had settled down by now)

When I'm cleaning and sometimes get a little (or alot 😅) annoyed at having to be doing it again, I have to remind myself of the Bible verse telling us to let everything we do be done as if we were doing for the Lord, not for man. It helps me to quickly adjust my attitude and show more grace in the things I do.

Love this video! Now that both my kids are in school, I "professionally" clean home for three families. It is GREAT money and allows me to still be able to volunteer at church, school, etc. and still be home much of the time. Some of the best products for cleaning are: Bar Keepers Friend (must for sinks and bathtub rings), really soft linen or cotton cloths for buffing tiles, floors, microfiber for dusting. It took me a long time to want to use (diluted) bleach, but one family had for years and asked me to do so. I am won over; it is frankly amazing in certain areas. Tiny detail brushes are excellent for baseboards and around sink handles/faucets.

Fantastic video! I recently made a weekly chart for myself so I get everything done once a week without being overwhelmed. My husband and I split chores a little differently. I do the inside cleaning - kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, etc. He does the outside - yard work, gardening, taking the trash to the road, etc. And he also fixes everything because I can't fix anything. And I iron his shirts!
I love the quote "there is holiness in the mundane." So beautiful!

You nailed it on the dignity of work idea. Also kudos that this wasn't some stupid ass "life hack" like vinegar and vodka in a spray bottle. The details of how to clean are not nearly as important as motivating yourself to clean at all and to do it regularly. I am really glad that you focused on how to frame the act of cleaning as important, integrated to your life, and again, making it dignified.
Anecdote on gender roles: My mom told me that her Italian grandpa in the 1940s would help with the laundry. He washed all the clothes by hand himself, on the washboard, rinse, but then he always left the hanging out to dry part to his wife, grandma had to do that. Because it involved going outside at that point, and he had to maintain his manly reputation, he wouldn't be caught dead doing laundry in public! LOL But great-grandma didn't mind! She understood that masculine need, but more importantly, her gratitude outweighed his silly want for appearances. He was willing to help, even doing the lion's share of that work, and it was worth the exchange for a little preservation of his pride. So she was up to the bargain, and this was just a household secret forever.

I do the household pretty much alone. I also go to school for a few hours each day because I want to be able to go to university in a few years (I'm German).
And people always tell me things like: “He's doing *nothing*‽” “You do *everything*‽” “He's such a jerk for not helping you.” “Well, he should at least do *something*” I don't want him to do most of my tasks. He doesn't know how I do them and it brings disorder into my brain when he does them “wrong”.
