Metroid Prime was the reason why I wanted a Gamecube and I was blown away by that game. The gameplay, graphics, music, and innovation, and that's a quality game I call it. When I got a Gamecube as a Christmas present, it came with a collector's edition of Zelda which combined 4 full games including the first & original Zelda, The Adventure of Link, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask. I enjoyed them all and I have beaten OoT and MM, not the first two because they were hard and I got stuck at some points. Besides, I got to play Super Smash Bros Melee, Star Fox Adventures, Super Mario Sunshine, The Wind Waker, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Sonic Heroes, Pikmin, Resident Evil 4, Shadow the Hedgehog, and some to mention. Metroid Prime 1 and 2 were totally a different story. While the Gamecube wasn't my go-to console, it has its place.
My personal backlash to the Wind Waker graphical style, when I first saw screenshots, came partly from seeing a number of “cel-shaded” games come out and having a feeling of “oh, you too Nintendo?” However, it mostly came from being in my early to mid twenties by the time the game came out, and having seen other series, such as Final Fantasy, Castlevania, and Metal Gear, which I had all loved on the NES, take the directions they did on PlayStation and wanting the Zelda games (my favorite of all) to “grow” (more “mature”) with me the way the other series had. One of the reasons I believe Ocarina hit the way it did for multiple generations is that it had both the child and adult timelines, maintaining childlike wonder, while filling me on my own journey through life. So focusing on a child Link and using “cartoony” graphics made it seem on the surface that it was less “for me.” Of course this all melted away, when I finally played the game several years later, and not it is one of my favorites of all time. Also, Metroid Prime very much scratched that itch of seeing a series evolve as I grew older.
there is something so charming about the softness and luminosity of gamecube graphics. the graphics of most games on gamecube almost reminds me of a studio ghibli film, colorful and shiny and round. the water effects in most gamecube games was also unbelievably crisp at the time. look at the water and fur effects in starfox adventures.
Yea but if you compare say Xbox and game cube the graphics possibilities was n general very similar. Heck even Dreamcast was similar it was just that it could not produce so much polygons. What often set the games apart was the art direction itself
Gamecube was such a great contributor during the console wars. If it lacked anything exclusive, it still had the specs to match when it came to multiplat games
Ill never forget in all my gaming years the Nintendo Space World 2000 when they showed off that Link v Ganondorf footage (Dolphin tech demo) . I thought that was the most next gen rendering ever for video games and immediately had my interest in Gamecube (then Dolphin) right after Dreamcast. Ive downloaded (remember Quicktime ? 😢) and watched that video over and over again, countless times.
But then it's not representative of the actual, original output. And seeing the Wii with that improved output really makes me wonder what the hell Nintendo was thinking when they made so many Wii games so blurry... the difference with Mario Kart Wii is insane, for example!
Back when video games were good..... I used to have Mario Sunshine and Soul Caliber. So many good memories I used to play these with my friend along with Mario Kart Double Dash as a rental
I had a GameCube originally. Bought it cause at the time, Resident Evil 4 was supposed to be exclusive. Funny how that worked out. But regardless of that, I did enjoy the system and the few great games it had. Super Mario sunshine, Metroid prime, metal gear solid twin snakes, and other ones too that I enjoyed. The best thing I remember about the GameCube, though was the attachable Game Boy advance reader you could put on the bottom of the system.I remember playing the Castlevania Game Boy advance games on my television thru the Game Cube then, which was really neat at the time.
Me, watching this in 144p, "Interesting." For real though, nice touch with that rare Underwater Theme remake from Super Mario Sunshine playing at the beginning.
I love Matroid Prime its the only game I ever played that gave me goosebump a lot of time while playing. Dont know why but i guess its just the amazing atmosphere and the soundtrack
Dude really cool video. You picked a lot of great titles to showcase! Appreciate your editing and production too. Want to add that Starfox Adventures is superior to Assault in every measurable way and has the best graphics on the entire system IMO. Wish you had showed it off. Anyhow, looking forward to more content from you! Take care.
In my personal experience with friends and what I read in a few magazines, RE4 was an absolute masterpiece and everyone liked it. It was when RE5 came out that it was squarely placed in the "Arcade On-Rails Shooter" style. Literally, RE5 plays just like a coin-op, from "prepping" your items before missions, to super forgiving and plentiful checkpoints, to a complete and utter lack of exploration (basically 100% scripted missions). I think people briefly blamed RE4 for what RE5 became. lol.
I have the original Nintendo Component HD cable for my GameCube and hooked up to my LG Plasma TV, looked pretty damn good. I got rid of my plasma in 2017 and upgraded to OLED but lost my ability to connect my GameCube to a tv so will be getting retro tink 4K to play on 77 C1
Can you do a video like this again but with the Prince of Persia games on the GC? There's TONS of vertical lines showing, and more so when you run it in 480p. not sure why it is that way.
Awesome video! I just installed an internal HDMI out and Picoboot to my 001. Everything works great so far! Still haven't tested out the GBA Player yet though. Once I get any kinks worked out, I plan on cleaning it up and giving it a nice coat of paint.
Hahah I know that voice!! Great channel Dudu as always! You’re my biggest inspiration on my yt channel! Hope I can meet u someday on that journey! All the best for u and family! ❤
Nice! I would have included Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem as I think it's one of the best games of the era, not just the GameCube. And, for now, it's forever trapped on the GameCube - so it's literally the only way to play it outside of emulation or Wii backwards compatibility. A unique and compelling take on the survival horror genre with its sanity meter. Nothing has been this ambitious since. Edit: Also, while I like the remake for what it's trying to do, the Wii version of Resident Evil 4 remains the definitive edition for me. The motion pointer controls really take that game to a whole new level and it makes it impossible to go back to traditional controls once you've played it that way. A rare instance where the motion controls were superior.
Great video! Thank you! But I really have to defend Super Mario Sunshine. It’s an amazing game and the water mechanics make Mario jump and run even more acrobatically than in a „regular“ Mario 64. It really gives off this summer holiday vibe and I loved playing it in winter because of that. Go watch a 120 star speedrun, they look amazing. It really requires a lot of skill. And I say that as an old fart who happened to play it as an adult the first time - so no nostalgic feelings here.
@18:20 they absolutely nailed Links fighting style. A real brawler style fighter using unconventional techniques and not your typical Japanese character style flashiness. That is Link to a T. I wish nintendo made a zelda game where the combat system was this way after locking on to a target.
Gen Z and gen alpha kids don't know and probably will never know that back then, Nintendo actually directly competed with Sony, Microsoft and even Sega. Gen z will never know that back in 2001, the GameCube was actually very powerful, especially considering how small and compact it is. It was very powerful for a little guy. The first gen z kids were barely being born at around this time while milennials were kids and teens at around this point (21 and under). I was only 10 yrs old and was impressed by its graphics and games. Loved it and still do.
Im thankful I'm gen z but I love the story and games from the GameCube generation and even before, but I know a lot of kids nowadays don't respect that era of gaming
Wind Waker, and the other Zelda games from around that period, is my favorite style of Zelda art 👍🏼😎 I still like playing Wind Waker HD on my Wii U. It's a great game and looks and sounds beautiful. It's one of my favorite Zelda games.
I would love a video like this for the N64, but three times as long. The N64's original graphics is one of the most forgotten /erased looks in history. No one emulates that console at original 240p resolution or with the original anti aliasing or artifacts. Emulation is cool but it can change the public perception of how the games actually felt when they released
I feel like it aged better than the PS2 to play in modern displays since the PS2 had mostly 480i games. But I still find both the PS2 and PS3 libraries superior. PS2 had FF10, FF12, Dragon Quest 8, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus… the PS3 had Uncharted, The Last of Us, Heavy Rain, LittleBigPlanet, Demon’s Souls! Don’t get me wrong, I love the GameCube, and it did have great games (as shown in the video). But I think its library was lacking in comparison to the PS2 and PS3! Thanks for the comment!!!
I think there was a reason to own a gamecube even if you had a ps2 or xbox that generation. The wii gave the ps3 a run for its money the next gen with similar hardware to the cube and a waggly stick😂 but it couldn't compete in the power dept. They were great times to be into video games with the amount of variety and invention!
@@VideoGameShowcaseI also feel there are less games on GameCube compared to the PS2, but I think the exclusives such as wind waker, Metroid prime, the resident games, makes it a definite more of a quality library, even if it's lacking in some third parties or exclusives that never came to the GameCube but to the PS2 or the Xbox original. But I think that's the reason I love the cube so much, because nowadays almost all the games are playable in every console, but at that time, you had to have all 4 consoles (I count the Dreamcast) if you wanna truly experience all of gaming in it's form. That's just my view on the topic, I appreciate your video and I hope to see yours next video when it appears on my feed, imma sub to you
Metroid Prime 1 and Metroid Prime 2 are my favorite games on the GC. They were absolute tech marvels when they came out and are still amazing games to this day. To this day, Metroid Prime 1 is still the highest rated Gamecube game of all time on metacritic, and is the 2nd highest rated FPS game of all time on metacritic, with a 97/100 on metacritic, which means Metroid Prime 1 even beat out Halo: CE, which is the 3rd highest rated FPS game of all time on metacritic. Two absolute masterpiece games brought to you by Nintendo and Retro Studios.
The jump from N64 to NGC is still the biggest to me. Look at the super mario/kart/tennis/golf graphical differences on both consoles and it’s mind boggling. Both are my favourite consoles but because the NGC looks so much better, I can get more people willing to play it that don’t have nostalgia towards it, unlike the N64 which anyone without nostalgia might just hate the graphics.

Something i want to mention with MKDD controls. You can omagine that instead of turning with the front wheels, you turn with your back wheels. I can't confirm this, but i think they made it so to feel some sence of weight. Since you got a partner hanging on behind. And your partner helps a lot with that feel too, since they sway their hips and ajust for every turn you make. It's one of the Maaany things that makes this game so uniqe and fun. It doesn't play like any other Mario Kart, and that's what makes it so special to me.
I do think many 6th gen consoles have their charm visually. A lot of games have aged poorly but there are also a lot who have aged quite well. It was the last generation where Japanese developed games still dominated the market for the biggest titles before the shift to western developers being the dominant force in the 7th generation. GameCube had its advantages over the PS2 from a graphical standpoint.
How dare you sir. Mario Sunshine is one of my favorite Mario games of all time. Great video though. 🙂 I guess the only game I might have added is Twilight Princess.

Metroid Prime 1 and 2 were totally a different story. While the Gamecube wasn't my go-to console, it has its place.
Star Fox Assault has one of my favorite video game soundtracks.
So focusing on a child Link and using “cartoony” graphics made it seem on the surface that it was less “for me.”
Of course this all melted away, when I finally played the game several years later, and not it is one of my favorites of all time. Also, Metroid Prime very much scratched that itch of seeing a series evolve as I grew older.
Amazing comment! Thanks for sharing!
there is something so charming about the softness and luminosity of gamecube graphics.
the graphics of most games on gamecube almost reminds me of a studio ghibli film, colorful and shiny and round.
the water effects in most gamecube games was also unbelievably crisp at the time. look at the water and fur effects in starfox adventures.
Yea but if you compare say Xbox and game cube the graphics possibilities was n general very similar. Heck even Dreamcast was similar it was just that it could not produce so much polygons. What often set the games apart was the art direction itself
Great video man, you r very professional!
This looks so good. I still have my GC plugged to play SC2.
I really appreciate that these were recorded on a real hardware! Subbed!
Thanks a lot!!!

Nice video Dudu!
A lot of these games look really good for their time
Wow, i never thought id see the day the Gamecube was actually showcased like some kind of museum artifact, I must be ooooold, lol
If only gamecube use normal dvd and have dvd player
Edited very concisely, great work!
Thanks a lot!
Great video, Mr Baksedu!
Wii component output has been recently improved with 480p pixel patch and de flicker filter disabled.
Got this on my recommended, great video!
Thanks a lot!!!
Your take on super mario sunshine is CRAAAAAZY!!! I loved that game! To each their own i guess haha.
Such a great video as always, the quality on your videos keep growing!
Thank you very much!
its trivial with the swiss homebrew app to run basically all GC games in progressive scan - including Resident Evil :)
I Really appreciate the work you put into this video! I really enjoyed it and would love to see new Videos like this! :D
Me, watching this in 144p, "Interesting."
For real though, nice touch with that rare Underwater Theme remake from Super Mario Sunshine playing at the beginning.
I always really loved the exclusive games, how most games ran at 480p 60 fps and loading times were so short. It also introduced pikmin and pikmin 2
Take care.
Thanks a lot for the comment and feedback!!!
amazing video DUDU👌
3:07 "How a console from more than 20 years ago...."
WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY
Had never heard of it but it does look awesome! Thanks for the suggestion!
u r the besto bro, congrats man, what a video 👏🏻
I was blessed by the algorithm, sent me Dudu's videos without me searching for.
I was hoping it would go into the GC’s graphical technology more.
Skies of Arcadia was an amazing game. I played the Dreamcast version. I miss games like that.
awesome video!!
I think people briefly blamed RE4 for what RE5 became. lol.
7:36 The Remake of RE1 is what the creator wanted to do in PS1. But the limitations of the PS1 didn't provide this
I love Mario Kart 7. By far, my favorite of all Mario Kart series. Greetings from Peru! Wonderful edition with a wonderful graphics
Thanks a lot for the comment!
I have the original Nintendo Component HD cable for my GameCube and hooked up to my LG Plasma TV, looked pretty damn good. I got rid of my plasma in 2017 and upgraded to OLED but lost my ability to connect my GameCube to a tv so will be getting retro tink 4K to play on

Can you do a video like this again but with the Prince of Persia games on the GC? There's TONS of vertical lines showing, and more so when you run it in 480p. not sure why it is that way.
I think that’s an issue with whatever you’re using to get on your TV. I have never seen that issue on a gamecube
Screen tearing?
Awesome video! I just installed an internal HDMI out and Picoboot to my 001. Everything works great so far! Still haven't tested out the GBA Player yet though. Once I get any kinks worked out, I plan on cleaning it up and giving it a nice coat of paint.
Nice! I don’t have the GBA Player so that’s something I couldn’t test! Thanks!
Amazing video
How’d you get Resident Evil 4 to fill up the whole screen? Or is your screen capture zoomed?
Zoom in during editing, while playing I had black bars
Wind Waker, and the other Zelda games from around that period, is my favorite style of Zelda art 👍🏼😎 I still like playing Wind Waker HD on my Wii U. It's a great game and looks and sounds beautiful. It's one of my favorite Zelda games.
Unexpectedly started crying from nostalgia and seeing a beat up GameCube. Feeling very old. I can’t even finish watching. 😭
great showcase.
Thank you very much!
Funny to think about the Gamecube's lack of success 20 years ago. It's better than the Playstation 2 and 3 in my opinion.
ps3? no. ps2? definitely
As for Metroid Prime 2, it's the 16th highest rated game on the GC of all time on metacritic, and the 20th best rated FPS game of all time on metacritic, with a 92/100 on metacritic.
Two absolute masterpiece games brought to you by Nintendo and Retro Studios.
I use the GCHD MK 2 from eon gaming, though I hear the carby is really good too
If you have a retrotink 4k why not display them with crt filters? Some look very good.
UA-cam doesn’t handle filters well. Compression ends up crushing the quality of the video with filters!
The jump from N64 to NGC is still the biggest to me. Look at the super mario/kart/tennis/golf graphical differences on both consoles and it’s mind boggling. Both are my favourite consoles but because the NGC looks so much better, I can get more people willing to play it that don’t have nostalgia towards it, unlike the N64 which anyone without nostalgia might just hate the graphics.
the jump from SNES to N64 tbh was far crazier lol
do a "How Original Xbox Games Actually Look" & also ps2 version of the video idea
Let's go Edu! GC was one of my favorites!
We are all here for Zelda the Windwaker. I bought the Gamecube just for that Game and Resident Evil 4 No Lie. And to this Day Nobody believes me when i say it Looks better on Gamecube then on PS 2.
RE4 looks a lot better on GC than PS2.
Are you using dolphin to capture footage, it looks very clear
GameCube + Carby + RetroTink 4K, as explained in the video!
How Nintendo GAMECUBE Games ACTUALLY Look! but actually not actually because youre not watching this on a CRT
Dude they had big tvs back then! The movie theater looking ones that were square and speakers on the sides or bottom those weren’t “CRT”
Dude they had big tvs back then! The movie theater looking ones that were square and speakers on the sides or bottom those weren’t “CRT”
The GameCube was ahead of its time.
That's why I still have 2 in brand new condition.
GameCube had so many legendary games
if you ask me how the best video game i ever had, i surelly will respond: the nintendo game cube! i love this console!
perfect for the time in every way, and the games still hold until today!
how does it look so crisp... i mean damn
I play video games since the nineties, since I was a teenager and I still play PS2, to me the sixth generation of gaming is still the best.
i really dont feel like the original re4 gameplay is dated. you just have to play it some more to get used to it. once you know all the tricks its DELICIOUS. But yeah, I also love the remake
Don't feel bad about playing Wind Waker late.
I first played and beat Skyward Sword in 2017 on the Wii U. Amazing game 🤙🏼
SHINE !! 🌞
Sunshine was always my favorite Mario game. Fastest playing, freestyle 3D Mario game. Check out the speedruns 🤙🏼
Metroid Prime was hard and confusing game. Loved the sound effects and menu music
On Soul Caliber II, be Link, grab attack Ring Out everytime. Can't go wrong 🫡
On Simpsons Hit and Run, you can steal a 4wheeler if you find it
MARVEL Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects was an incredible, hilarious, buggy game and can be very challenging. It's fighting style felt very unique. It's also on the PS2 and PSP. I highly recommend. Great soundtrack as well.
I think you say "Actually looked like", bro. Honestly. I mean no harm
superbe video!
I’m honestly in doubt on how to phrase it. I have used both types (one with my PS3 video and the other with the Xbox 360 one) and still don’t know which the best option 😅
@@VideoGameShowcase I trust you! You live in Canada after all... haha If it works both ways i think "looked like" is the most common. Anyway, i totally agree with you with the windwaker graphics thing. Zelda minish cap also received criticism for being based on those graphics but the game is incredible. Also, search for "deamon claw" a game being developed for the mega drive. Valeu falou ;)
@@VideoGameShowcase I wrote "honestly" wrong ahah I wrote "honestley" :) the irony. It might work both ways, Edu... You live in canada so i believe you haha But i think "looked like" is more common. Also, search for a game being developed for the mega drive called daemon claw ;)

Looked like would apply if the title were: WHAT gamecube games actually looked like.
Hope this helps!
@@christopherhebert1504 Thanks!
GameCube had some power. The c button always felt cheap tho.
How dare you sir. Mario Sunshine is one of my favorite Mario games of all time. Great video though. 🙂 I guess the only game I might have added is Twilight Princess.
I wish I had the Cube's version of Twilight Princess! But at least I got the HD version on the Wii U! Thanks for the comment... and nice username!
Pet peeve I guess, but please PLEASE when anyone makes a video where you zoom in on a controller for any amount of time, CLEAN IT first
Had to match it with my literally broken GameCube! My personal controller is thankfully much better than that one 😅

The GameCube was a graphical powerhouse. Really loved that lil console. I remember when re4 hit ps2 and the graphics had to be severely compromised. It was so blurry and just ugly. Showed just how powerful the cube was. Resident evil remake also was stunning on GC.
Super Mario Sunshine is a GREAT Mario game....
The thing that i love most about the game cube is that the emulator runs a lot smoother than the ps2 emulator on my pc 😂
I got a BITFUNX adapter and it’s impressive how the GameCube still looks amazing, way better than the Wii.
