Galina Vishnevskaya - Macbeth: Nel di della vittoria

Galina Vishnevskaya in the 1976 Edinburgh Festival production of Macbeth, recorded on the subsequent tour, on 14 September. As Alan Blyth wrote in "Opera", despite some difficult moments, she gave "a grand and urgent view of the role of Lady Macbeth, phrased with the utmost intelligence..." I was lucky enough to see two performances, and I fully agree with him. Vivid, unconventional and quite unforgettable.

She takes more breaths compared to Nillsson but her voice is just as magnificent. If you can sing this aria, you can sing anything. Bravissima!

I too was lucky enough to see this Festival production and can only agree with your assesment .....Vishnevskaya was unforgetable as the evil Lady. I have however no memory at all of the singer who played Macbeth!!!!!!!..
Can you help by supplying the name please?

@pjdonagh, the Macbeth was Norman Bailey, with Malcolm Donnelly taking over later in the run. He was superb, but it was still something of a one-woman show!

@starrman22 Thanks for that...I guess I heard Bailey. I was mulling it over today and Bailey's name did present itself albeit somwwhat dimly. This production was my first Macbeth with singers of any consequence and it certainly did make an impression, so it has irked me that my memory has been so tardy!!!!!

Скорее плохо - "подьезды" к верхам, да и середина не лучше, и мощи голоса конечно нет и в помине...

Впечатление портит качество записи. Конечно, замечание какие-то возникают. Но я не раз слышал Г.П.Вишневскую в Большом театре и могу засвидетельствовать,что она звучала всегда прекрасно. Красивый тембр, кантилена, гладкость и ровность звучания. И ОЧЕНЬ сильный голос, перекрывавший с легкостью оркестр и заполнявший огромный зал. В моменты наибольшей громкости звучания оркестра и хора Г.П. была способна уверенно доминировать. Техника у неё тоже была хорошей. Недаром она с успехом пела Лиу в Ла Скала с Биргитт Нильсон и Франко Корелли! Аида и Тоска у неё получались бесподобно. Она имела ещё и огромный дар драматической актрисы. Талантище!
