Awesome. When I get home I’ll check and see if that will work for me. It’s tough finding motors locally right now. I’ve found one place that has a few 40s instock. Thanks for getting me that measurement!
A tilt lock is there. Raise the motor all the way up, push in the lock pin. Its on the clamp bracket near the tilt tube. The prop needs to be sized to the boat. The dealer typically recommends which prop to use. A 40 could be used on a heavy party barge or a lightweight skiff. The props used would be vastly different.
Great video and very helpful. I also recently purchased a F50 and separate tiller handle. Just wondering about the tiller mounting bolts or studs. Do the come in the motor? My tiller just arrived but there weren’t any studs with it. Thx
If you use the cylinder to tilt hold motor up for towing it will act like a diving board with shamoo on your transom. Now u are going to potentially crack the transom.
I know it is a old video but am looking at buying one right now, how has the nitro assist treated you? Is it hard to pull up and could you do it while sitting? If you could go back again would you spend more on power tilt and trim? Thanks
The nitro assist works well. Not hard to lift. I haven’t tried it while sitting. I will check it out. I would buy it with the power tilt. I bought it during Covid and it wasn’t available. Sorry about the delayed response
I’m considering a 15 foot g3 that has a 40 Yamaha on it and was wondering how that big of a motor does without power tilt? Trying to decide between that or the same boat with a 25. I don’t want to get a motor too big without power trim if it’s too much to handle. I guess it’s good though in case you were to hit a small stump or something and having it break away vs no give. Any advice would be appreciated!
It turns out I do not miss the power tilt m, much. The gas shock is balanced so it does not take much effort to raise it. If I had had my choice I would have wanted it for when I am on the lake so that I could easily tilt it up and switch. to my electric motor. But on the other hand it trolls so nice and slow and quiet I may never use my electric motor again! My advice it to go to the 40HP. I think it is always better to have the power.
Yes! It started on the first pull! Haha. It has been great. Only out twice so far. The first time doing the 2 first hours of breakin. The second time fishing. I never thought I could troll with a 40hp but it idles so nice! Next trip this weekend. It is such a pleasure so far. No smoke and so smooth and quiet and I love the idle speed adjustment toggle on the tiller handle. I’ll do an update soon. So far…. Very happy.
@@OregonPanoramas That’s good to hear! Glad it’s working good for you. I’ve got a older carbureted F25 on my boat now and I’m trying to decide if I’m going to get the new fuel injected F25 or the F40. I’ve got a 16’ Aluminum boat. Thanks for the video!
Hey Brian hope your doing good. Can you do me a favor when you get a chance. Can you get me a measurement from your transom to the end of you tiller handle. I’m hoping it will clear the back of my seats. Appreciate it man!
I'm a Yamaha tech. Here's an explanation for what's going on at 10 minutes: The engine won't engage reverse gear simply because the drive shaft can not align with he prop shaft.it's enaged through slots in the gear selector assembly in the lower unit. It will align if you spin the prop shaft slightly, or run the engine. it needs to spin around to engage. never push the gear selector hard when the engine is not running, because it causes a lot of stress on every component in the shifting assembly.
Thanks for the video. Did you find out more info on the 2 wire connections regarding what they are for? Did you also find out how to make use of the speed cable? I just picked up a 2023 70 hp and am installing myself and am searching for videos as well. Here is another one that has some good info. ua-cam.com/video/ffU4hJEHuxs/v-deo.html P.S. I am also in Portland Oregon

How much torque on the transom bolts and nuts? Ty
Great Job. I'm buying one.
I have the same motor and cant figure out where the battery cables go on the engine

Good point and thank you for the tip! I’ll check it tomorrow!
can you do a video of installing power trim motor?
Where do you fasten the power cables I see the hot wire where does the ground go ?
The ground goes to the negative terminal on the battery.
@@OregonPanoramas Not on the battery on the motor lol I figured it out.

Did you figure out where the black hose plugs ??? 👋👋👋
It’s a flushing attachment

Probably too late here but that three prong plug is for the power tilt/trim
Thanks! Never to late
do you know where the blue and green wires go for a power trim motor?
@@kadonluke2243 blue is up, green is down. Think of it as “sky=blue, grass = green”

Is it smooth idling and mid range where its a 3 cylinder not 4 ?Thanks
Very smooth. I do not use my minkota now for trolling. I use this.
Do you know why the alarm cry on low speed? My oil nivel is ok and the water pump do pipi? Please somebody know why?
Sorry. I have no idea. I would contact a Yamaha rep.

Plus if you go with the 25 it’s about 75 lbs lighter than the30/40 family.
Buy iwer trim tilted best 25 hp. Otc50
Dose it pull start if battery gos Dead
Yes. You can pull start it without to much trouble.
Curious to see if you got it running yet? I’m considering the same outboard!

Justin, when the motor is down it is 33.5” from the very back (motor side) of the transom to the front end of the tiller handle.

Also, when you buy a yamaha outboard from an authorized dealer, at least here in Norway, you do get a prop included.
Thank you. Great helpful explanation!
