I can’t thank you enough for these videos. Back in the early 70’s my family would spend our summers camping at Slough Creek. We were able to spend 5 weeks a year fly fishing and hiking in Yellowstone. I’m 63 years old now and watching your hikes in familiar places brings me such joy.
Thank you this calming video. Earlier today, I had some major dental work. Watching this took my mind off the discomfort I was feeling...and, put me into a much better mental state. Always look forward to your walks through beautiful Yellowstone.

Leroy, there are a lot of beautiful places around, not just Yellowstone. I do hike other places but somehow my youTube channel got to be focused mainly on Yellowstone. And remember, videos make things look better than they are. They don't show the hot weather, bugs, tics, thick brush, getting tired, sore back....

Nice video Stan…. It brings the park home to those of us out East. There will likely be drastic changes in the weather in the next several weeks - that will be interesting to see. Are you hesitant to say which part of the park you’re hiking? - if so, very understandable to maintain tranquility.
I am a little hesitant showing off-trail hikes. I have actually met multiple people (extremely nice people) that are tracing (doing) my hikes. Also people on email are telling me that. Although it is amazing to me that people want to do the same thing, I am really starting to worry someone may get hurt. Although I am not responsible for other peoples actions, I don't want to contribute to them maybe doing something they are not prepared for. Everyone is different, and you do not know what motivates people to do things. I do tell people to start out slowly and safely and to gain experience each time they go hiking. Also, I feel like I should give the wildlife a little protection also.

Exceptionally GREAT info when it comes to brownies / grizzlies.. All this "HEY BEAR" stuff is very dependant on the situation + location. Animals move throughout these lands all of the time. ,Much more than humans in Yellowstone. Human cadence is almost always different than animals, though if one wants to mirror them, and has patience, it isn't that hard to do.

Shari, you should watch more videos on my channel and most of those questions should be answered. The video at this link will show the stuff I take in my pack: ua-cam.com/video/AA1S05J-wMs/v-deo.html I have never had a reaction difference between black bears and grizzlies. I have been hiking and camping in bear country for a lot of years and I just don't see the behavioral differences between grizzlies and black bears that people are always talking about. The only thing I can say is there is the normal size difference and sometimes some grizzlies are more mean-looking. I can only tell you what I see based on experience. I have read all the books also, but I just don't see a lot of the things I have read. The thing about videos is, you get to see the real thing, nothing thought about, then written and enhanced and exaggerated. I think I have almost 100 videos just on bears. I started recording hikes when I was able to get my first video camera that made videos. Thanks for your comments.

No sense changing a good thing. Sometimes I run into a Cow Moose and her Calf and that gets my attention as much as anything. Excellent video as usual sir.

I stepped (fell) into one of holes you described in the video a few years ago. It was hidden in tall grass like the one shown. It was about thigh deep. I felt lucky I did not break my leg. A ranger told me he thought they were beaver holes, used possibly as an emergency place to enter or exit the river. I have no idea if that is true, but the experience taught me to proceed with caution in tall grass along creeks and rivers.
You are so quiet on your hikes, I always read that one should make lots of noise so the bears know you're there. I'd prefer a quiet walk but don't want to surprise any animals either.
Beautiful video thank you Stan, wonderful scenery. I read recently that some parks, I think Yosemite was one, are banning hikers from carrying Bearspray. Do you know if this is true? Surely this will put folk's lives at risk? Loving your videos, have watched them over and over, I find them very relaxing so thank you again!
Stan, thanks for another great video. When walking through the timbered areas like you did in this video, how do you ensure that you won’t walk up on a sleeping grizzly or too close to a grizzly before it hears you? Especially since you walk so slowly and quietly.
I have walked up on a bear before. It heard me walking, got up, and ran off in the opposite direction. I am always quiet (not talking) but I don't worry much about my walking sound. For me this is the right kind of noise to be making. You notice it does not alarm any animals but they do get the warning that something is coming.

I had a black bear take care of a sudden Yellowjacket problem for me! 3 nests in one day became active on my Northern Calif property .... I got up early, planning to head into “town” to see what my options were being that they were all under huge rocks, but any vibration within 50 feet of their nests sent them out in attack mode in seconds...they had literally set their nests about 100 ft apart ina Triangulated pattern...my dog and I were nailed no matter where we headed! But that morning, much to my astonishment, the boulders were askew, and honeycombs were all over the place! Not a living Yellowjacket remained...no larvae....Gone! That was the greenest solution, and it had to be God’s idea!😂🙀😎😇

One time I was sitting on a log when I heard something behind me. I turned around and it looked just like Bigfoot pushing and swaying a 20 foot tall pine tree. I jumped up and grabbed my camera and he was gone. It was an amazing sight, but I have concluded it was a bear standing up looking at me at the perfect angle and pushing and pulling on the tree.

This time of the year, many of the Yellowstone bears are high eating army cutworm moths - up to 40000 per day (A ton of calories) that have migrated from the plains. I read an article the other day that biologists are weary of humans trying to watch bears or even just peaking at this critical time of the year as the griz enter hyperphagia. According to the article, bioligist are witnessing humans spooking the bears, reducing the caloric consumption of the griz with oblvious implications as hybernation approaches.
this beautiful land is here for all respectful people to enjoy. if you are not savvy on how to hike and stay safe in this area, don't go. This man is disturbing nothing.
@@StanMills That makes absolutley no sense..... i love the wildness and the wildlife myself. Theres also common sense when hiking in undesignated forest areas. Bears are extremely unpredictable & territorial . Theres also moose , wolves , & elk to consider. Please be safe 🙏

Thanks for another grayt video. Bird tracks are usually hard to spot, but sometimes what makes them dominates the view.

How do you tell the difference between grizzly scat and black bear scat?
Mainly by size. But a small grizzly can also have small scat. A large black bear can have large scat. Very inaccurate but that is about the only way.
Grizzly scat has little bells in it! LOL!

That's cool, but Bigfoot are silent hunter's. Still pretty neat tho. Are people allowed to take antlers that have fallen off animals in yellow stone?
no. you could get in big trouble doing that. They even go so far as to plant tracking devices in them and placing them around where people are.

@@StanMills Just seems pretty risky , Yellowstone does have designated trails and warns visitors to not venture into dangerous wildness.

Love your videos but bear spray does not mean anything to an aggressive bear. Praying for your safety.
I don't know if there is much of anything you can do with an upset aggressive grizzly bear. That would not be good.
