The language of Qur'an - easier than English ]
Subject: The definiteness of an اسْم ISM
    By: Ustadz Muhammad Arjan Ali
This video: Lesson 2-Part 2 {L02-P2} Arabic Nominal Sentence
    --
Learn the essential Arabic (grammar, morphology, vocabulary) to understand Qur'an, for beginners in English.
    -------
In lesson 02 we look at the definiteness of an ISM اسْم. and how to use that knowledge in forming NOMINAL SENTENCE / JUMLAH ISMIYYA
Definiteness is one of the four properties of an اسْم. It is the easier one to understand for English-speaking students. Using basic common knowledge, we can easily identify the definiteness of any noun+.
Just learning the basics of definiteness will enable us to easily form - the nominal sentences الْجُمْلَةُ الْأِسْمِيَّةُ)) and also the descriptive phrase (مُرَكَّب تَوْصِيْفِي).
Arabic grammar - every اسْم in Arabic will be indefinite (نَكِيْرَة) unless it falls into one of the 7 categories of definite (مَعْرِفَة).
    Definiteness (مَعْرَفَة - نَكِرَة)
Just like an English noun - An اسْم will be either
    (i) definite (مَعْرِفَة) - الْمُسْلِمُ (The Muslim) or
    (ii) indefinite (نَكِيْرَة) - مُسْلِمٌ (a Muslim)
The seven categories of definite (مَعْرِفَة):
    1. The proper noun - الْاِسْمُ الْعَلَمُ
    2. The pronouns - الْضَّمَائِرُ
    3. The demonstrative nouns - أَسْمَاء الِإِشَارَةِ
    4. Definite by AL (ٱلْــــ ) - الْمُعَرَّفُ بِاللَّام
    5. Relative pronoun - الْاِسْمُ الْمَوْصُوْل
    6. The vocative - الْمُنَأدى
    7. Related to a definite - الْمُضَافُ اِلَى مَعْرِفَةٍ

If "Allah is all-Knowing" is written as:
    اللهُ عَلِيمٌ ،
Can we write "Allah is The All-knowing" as:
    اللهُ الْعَلِيمُ ؟

just curious , why does the word ALLAH have an attatched "al", is that the reason it has a single dhamma?
so ALLAH actually means the god?

According to most Arabic scholars, the word Allah, is His personal name. It is not derived.
It does not take Tanween, hence it has a single vowel sign, which cane be Dhammah, Fathah or Kasrah, depending on its I'raab.

Can you translate this in Arabic ? I want to use it. I've already tried but my Arabic level is lower than my English level 😬
Thank you very much. May Allah bless you.

      Waalaikumsalam Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
it is also above my level of Arabic, and I much prefer to use the English, as my students can also use it to remind themselves
