The wiper could be one of those extending ones like on some Mercedes cars.
I was thinking that as well, but it appears to only have a single pivot meaning it wouldn't be able to do that motion
I was sure Elon said that wasnt the final wiper
The Mercedes one is in the middle, this one is not.
That’s exactly what I had thought! A LOT of moving parts in those though. Engineering marvels but tricky to fix
@@CalumRaasay I have one of those 25 year old Benz with a single wiper arm. Never had any issues with the complex parts. I did however buy the car for just $200 three years ago because the wiper motor had burnt out. Cost me $150 in parts and ten minutes to fix it in my drive way. Literally zero issues ever since.
The on stage wheels were hubcaps that will go over the wheels. That’s how they got the look with still having big tires.
Yeah those were clearly just plastic hubcaps (and pretty cheap looking ones to me). Think it looks better without tbh
Exactly. You can see in the new photos the same outline for the aero caps on the wheels match the ones on the original prototype.
I’ll see if you guys da
Hubcaps provide better aero but you can remove them for aesthetics if you don't like them.
Would be hilarious if the wiper had its own wiper that extends mid wipe
That’s exactly what I thought. That’s gotta be the engineering solution to this…just to surprise.
Mercedes used to have one windscreen wiper - it used to sit in the centre and as it moved and reached near the centre it kind of bumped up and down to try and fill the windscreen
Yeah I remember that! Used to be so cool
I was about to post this. My Father's E class had it and it worked very well.
@@zknarc yeah my dad had a 230TE and it worked well on there but it was central
I currently drive one that was built 25 years ago and the wiper blade works flawlessly.
@@ardentvibe6917 good old German engineering
With Tesla's production delays, I'm willing to bet the $100 deposit on the still unseen Ram EV pickup to come to market first than the Cybertruck.
Yeah probably. Tesla want's to sell as many cars as they can but the cybertruck will slow Tesla down.
I think so too! We may even have a hybrid Tacomas on the road too before the cyber truck comes lol
@@MrOscar5690 A Tacoma with the new Tundra powertrain would be ridiculously good. Pretty sure Toyota is also working on an electric Taco
@@Briggsian I would buy the shit out of an electric Tacoma.
The windshield wiper is called a “uno” and we’ve been modding civics and other import cars to have them since the 90’s. It’s styling is nothing new and works just fine.
It looks like the wiper only gets 50% of the windshield, what if you need to look to the right? Looks like a major issue having only 1.
@@floofy5529 so if you do a little back of the napkin math/sketching you’ll notice that without any mechanical arm engineering, strictly with a swivel motor because the windshield is a square that’s a little skinnier at the top then on bottom a single windshield wiper can reach over 60% of the windshield. If you add two mechanical linkages at the bottom of the motorized arm you can easily stretch that to 80%. I’m not sure if that’s enough or not for visual capabilities, but mechanically it’s easily made.
It’s called a mono wiper.
@@jrocxzs it’s actually not. Mono just means 1. But that’s just generic us terminology. Since this is European it’s not called mono.
@@billyfromhr3999 that’s strange because I can’t find anything on the internet about Uno wiper. However I did find that Mercedes’ version is called Mono-post wiper. And all conversion kits for other cars are called single or Mono wiper.
The Hummer EV just looks so much better to me.
If u have the money and you will get better service from gm than tesla
@@orangecookie3132 how do either of those impact how it looks? 🤣
I have a feeling that the wiper might extend as it goes
Honestly it’s bugging me that we are here with this great energy and environment friendly solution (EVs) and they are so inaccessible because they are putting great minds and big money into things like…. The car door opening for you on its own, the car door closing for you on its own, magsafe charging on the console, self driving.
Seriously, if you get in your car you aren’t too busy to drive, if you have the key in your pocket it’s not hard to push the button, if you are standing next to the car it’s not hard to pull a handle, if you are sitting in the car it’s nothing it’s not hard to close the door yourself.
These concepts seem to want to treat you as a billionaire in blade runner rather than actually bringing us into the future. Rather, Use those engineers to make longer range batteries, use the money to install more charging stations. Make this more accessible and please stop wasting time and money and brainpower on luxury things that are so needless that the average person can’t allow themselves to buy.
im so happy they do it because it means we can drive ICE cars for a little bit longer :)
self driving will be a game changer. as for the other stuff, you gotta have some fun. tesla is about innovation and fun.
I'm pretty sure users with difficulties and disabilities would like these features a lot more
@@rolfrau5743 why will self driving be a game changer?
@@nishantrajani7372 fair point. But seeing as were in the genesis of EVs and the priority needs to be making this the standard, replacing fossil fuel, I feel like the base layer development of this technology should focus on making it more functional or as functional as the cars of today, to help get people on board. I like what you said but I mean I never got the vibe from Tesla or anyone that they are doing this to help disabled people.
It needs HIGH PROFILE TIRES on relatively small wheel rims to perform well off road, let alone be Baja/ rally cross capable. If you air down to 12 to 17 PSI should perform well at slow speeds in sandy and rocky terrain, but cannot be low profile tires for that.
This is a “look at me” truck, not a “drive me” truck.
How do you open these doors with icing or heavy snow conditions? Seems problematic.
Probably same as model x, has defroster in handles and a mechanical "ice breaker"
"Tell Elon he doing too much" had me LOL
I think those are just the steel rims under the aero cap of the original concept wheels, like you can take the aero cap off the base model 3 and have those steel rims instead
*aluminum
It may still be a steel lower bumper, just a different component. Pickups still ship with steel bumpers today.
Steel bumpers are aftermarket, these days they are all plastic and the Cybertruck is no exception. The first prototype they unveiled had a plastic bumper so I don't know where they got the idea it was steel from.
@@boostav Tell that to the steel bumpers from the factory on my trx...
Passenger visibility is not an issue, DRIVER turning right will not see a s*it in the rain :P
Its strange to see how many people stop disliking videos once the counts are removed
Whats the point anymore?
@@archygrey9093 To let the algorithm Gods know
my model x already automatically opens the driver’s door as you get closer if you have the key in your pocket, it has sensors so it doesn’t hit other cars in a parking lot, im sure the cyber truck will end up doing a similar thing
So what happens when it’s time to replace the wiper. That’s one of the parts of the car you typically get replace often. Not like there’s a universal wiper that a lot of people can use.
Obviously Tesla wants you to go to them to get it replaced or have a tech/mech come to you.
You get one on backorder from Tesla and hope there is no precipitation in the meantime...
Tesla service is top-notch, and you have all the parts available to you if you want to repair yourself...oh wait.
You have to get a new car
If you look at the prototype that was seen doing some track testing, that someone with a drone had filmed, one could see that there were 3 smaller replaceable wiper blades underneath the arm. I would assume that this is version is almost exactly the same, but with the wipers being more hidden from view.
Good luck explaining the nuance of rearview mirror law to a cop who gets to decide if you get to drive your truck home today.
I think they were talking about the side mirrors. It might be still legal to only have it on the driver side, but I assumed that was always required. I know old cars only had one on the passenger side.
I just looked it up and most states require two mirrors, so either a rear view and one side view or two side view mirrors. Having three is best so if someone takes out a side view mirror, your car is still legal to drive. :)
@@lanceareadbhar their point is most American cops don't know ANYTHING about the law and will just arrest you/seize your property even if you're not violating the law. Look up what's going on with delta 8 or the woman who got an abortion in Texas. Cops don't care what's legal, it's what THEY think the law is. So driving this car is possibly going to open you up to getting harassed by cops.
Not having a mechanical way to open the doors is a deal breaker for me
Everything about the way Musk insists things be designed strikes me as someone who doesn't care what happens to the vehicle a year after rollout. My mom's cars electric unlock has been broken on a door for YEARS - it would cost thousands to fix. So she just reaches over to unlock it when necessary. Removing that choice from the consumer and forcing them to deal with costly electrical thats extremely prone to breaking over time, for NO reason other than aesthetics ......
Lol... that thumbnail is epic... I would love Marques and Andrew react to this thumbnail in next episode
I’ve had Jeep Wranglers all my life, you have to have mirrors on while you drive (in most states). I live in Pennsylvania, and by law if the car was manufactured with mirrors, it needs to be driven with mirrors. So if I take the doors off my Jeep, the mirrors come off with them and I have to install aftermarket mirrors to the sides.
I have a gut feeling that the cybertruck is going to absolutely tank. Something about a super rugged well built car from tesla just doesn't seem like a recipe for success.
The pessimist in me says people want this to fail, no matter how well it is against competition. Trucker purists are the worst.
To think we need better public transit, not this shit 😂
I know
This truck is horrendous. Rivian truck is way better looking.
Some older mercedes from the 90s had a single windscreen wiper as well, but they moved in and out to cover more of the windscreen.
I wouldn't be suprised if the tesla is doing a similar idea, having it rest in the vertical position is a bit weird though.
My model X does that, 'recognize' you when you approach the driver side and actually open the door. Pretty reliable but far from perfect. Also no option to disable that at home. Everytime I pass by my car on my driveway, I have to pass on the passenger side otherwise the car will keep opening the door for me. Good thing is that if you don't interact with the opened door and walk away, the door closes.
Lol, a solution for a problem that didn't need to exist
Feels like more of a problem than additional comfort, is opening and closing a cardoor that much of a hassle? Image parking too close to your house and it swings open if you get too close and people can steal your stuff out of car or it hits something or someone.
@@Aaron-ww3ov A feature for a problem that didn't exist.
Same with the door handles (drag co efficiently so minimal) and the charging flap.
So many stories of these playing up. Pointless automation for the sake of showmanship imho
My car has the door handles pop out when I get close and I disabled that feature after a day of walking past it in the garage multiple times. Pop out door handles seem to be a good compromise to have less drag when driving and to give you something to pull if the car won't open itself.
@@lanceareadbhar Hmm. Just more stuff to go wrong imho.
I felt that Marques, as usual, did a great job but the other 2 hosts didn't know much about cars OR the cyber truck. Give them some home work, MKB!
I would be willing to bet that those are the wheels behind those crazy covers that was on the concept.
Still interested but it's certainly lacking compared to the Rivian other than the certainly lower price
An interesting effect that the cybertruck has on me is that it just looks so plain, or simple. I do sort of like the design but to me it just sort of looks like It lacks features, and is only a steel box with wheels. I'm sure it has performance and a bunch of features. But the Rivian, and "normal" trucks just feel to me like something I could take out into the woods and camp or have fun with. The Cybertruck looks like something that belongs more in a sleek garage than out on an adventure.
its a meme machine i dont really know what the point of comparing it with anything else is
@@spa2damax true
Are you familiar with The LaSalle?
Or maybe The Prophecy of The Shadowy Clown?
Given the demand for this thing, I won't be shocked if Tesla ends up announcing significant price increases for it like they have with pretty much everything they sell. I'll be very surprised if the Cybertruck starts at under $60k USD.
I hope they take their time with the cybertruck and give the interior a little more oomph since most project manager types and what not spend a lot of time in their trucks
I hope so too, but knowing Tesla, they like to keep the entire line of a car the same. Optimistically, I’d hope they give the highest trim a second screen like the model S/X.
In Europe there are many new cars with cameras as mirrors. Even trucks are sold lately with cameras. Pretty cool
I say the windshield wiper doesn't move like a normal wiper at all, it just gets pulled from left to right and back on a train-like thing, but always stays vertical.
I really can't imagine how that would be feasible. Imagine there is pouring rain, the wiper train would move super fast from left to right for you to see enough.
State of NJ, you have to have two rear view mirrors, to past MV inspection.
I think Tesla‘s door handles that you have to pull open manually are the best. Auto opening doors or the handles you see in other EV‘s that pop open seem like a bad idea… What happens when you have freezing rain on your car? The doors and handles likely won’t open. And the motors in the doorhandles can get damaged.
I had that situation with my charge port on my Tesla. You could hear the motor trying to open the port but it was frozen closed due to freezing rain. Had to pour hot water over it to fix it!
The removable mirrors is basically what Jeep does. You take the whole door off and the mirrors with it. I had never thought of that before but would be interesting to have removable mirrors on Cybertruck.
The lack of a steering wheel is more concerning to me then the door handles.
People have gotten surprisingly used to the steering yoke on the new model s so it’s a little less concerning but I agree with you.
@@Xploit66 I can believe that in a car, but in a truck, maneuvering around in tight technical places, or even backing trailers, there is a lot of spinning the steering wheel. Tesla seems to realize this as they have included rear wheel steering. I just hope there is an option from tesla, or perhaps an aftermarket addition you can add to the wheel to complete the steering wheel. Just my opinion.
@@RedTick2 I agree, I am sure there will be some sort of aftermarket thing you can attach. They have also talked about adaptive steering, but I don't like the idea of that either. I don't want the amount the wheels turn when you steer to be related to your speed, it would make it far less intuitive I would think. You can't have one thing that does different things depending on a relatively outside force, it would just be hard to get used to I think. I dunno. I'm with you though the only thing I still don't really like about their new cars is the yoke.
This truck isn’t going to be on a job site. No one will tow trailers with this. It’s for rich people ala Mercedes’ G wagon
@@Mvncher I appreciate your input and while a full time tradesman will no doubt agree with you, there will be a LOT of DIYers who will use this to go to and from their "job sites" and job sites were not my main concern. Working with it off road is my biggest concern. Not rock crawling off road but dirt roads, pasture roads, narrow gates, maneuvering around the barn, etc. This truck will most defiantly be used in that capacity and is why I feel it needs a steering wheel and not a yoke. Come to think of it, I have a hard time at drive throughs and post office parking lots in my 3500 so there is another set of places where having a wheel will be of more value, IMO.
The first time I saw this dreadful truck, I thought about my first sketch of a car that I gave to my kindergarten teacher back in the early 80s.
Exactly the same thing I thought... How does anyone see the side profile of this and think it looks good. Looks like a kid sketched a house then decided to add wheels to it
@@antimatter4733 😆
The 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 W124 chassis had one large windshield wiper located centrally at the base of the windshield. It extended as it rose up then retracted once it reached the top and center of the windshield, then extended again to reach the corner before it retracted once more when it reached the end of its swipe arc. And the same articulation was performed on the reverse sweep of the wiper. Really quite a bit of engineering. And it worked pretty well since it covered close to 90% of the windshield. I used to own this car a few years ago. It was considered one of the best over-engineered and reliable cars in the world before the accountants took over when developing its successor, the W210.

Remember when Homer made that car at his brother’s company and bankrupt him? That’s the vibe I’m getting with the cybertruck!
My Boi breaded he said I'm getting one for filming....BARZ
if any manufacturer is going to over-engineer a wiper it’s not tesla it’s mercedes. They have already done it multiple times
Still hoping to get my rolling refrigerator this year.
Aero cap on a brick on wheels... Hahahahhaha😂😂😂
Driving me insane that these guys don’t realize it will have the same prototype aero covers, those are just the wheels that covers snap to, no different than any other long range model. The tires sidewall even has the lugs that match the covers.
The thing I ask myself every time I see the inside of the cybertruck is, „where are the airbags?“
Isn’t straight edge dangerous on the road?
There's a way to design a car futuristic, and then there's a way to try doing it and failing miserably! This is it... Horrendous!
I drive a 1998 Mercedes-Benz C280, and it has a single windshield wiper right in the middle of the windshield and it works flawlessly - better than cars with two blades. How? German engineering. It actually extends at the outside rotation, and retracts in the center of the rotation, giving complete coverage.
Maybe the windshield wiper blade extends, telescope style as it wipes.
The Wiper deserves a Darwin Award
At 4:15 timestamp the LISP is really real 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The wheels are the same, just without the aero caps on. Similar to the Model 3's standard wheels but bigger.
Guarentee that wiper extends to touch every part of the screen.
My mom has a 2015 jeep renegade and it has an NFC key fob and unlocks when you grab the door handle it has a grounding sensor its touch to unlock but you have to open the door manually
A single windshield wiper is not a new thing I have on my 2000 Mercedes sl500 And the passenger has just as much view cleared. It’s because the height of the wiper is tall enough to cover the width as well
Rivian is stealing all of Elon's thunder...
The Wipers Extend from the tip as it goes to the passenger side, Like the mercedes wiper, one single on the center , as it sweeps to the center it would retract and then extend
It looks like a refrigerator
No one gonna talk about how great the thumbnail is?
i kinda wanna see whistlin diesel get his hands on one lol
You should have had Doug Demuro on for this!
Needs door handles the number of times I have a friend jump in the truck to help back in a boat or help haul something or just walking past the door to load something in the back? That door popping open or having to add everyone to the face database or even passings off a proximity key would be super annoying. Just leave it unlocked with door handles or a button. Workers sharing a truck at a worksite would probably find this annoying too
I have a honda clarity, it has normal door handles but to unlock the door, it's a touch sensitive sensor on the inside of the door handle. it's not a button you have to press, just touch it.
and it gets triggered by other things that aren't a human body. for example when I brush the snow off the car and wet snow gets pushed inside the handle area, the doors unlock.
also, "car recognizes you and opens the door" ? well, how does it know I want to open the door? will the door open every time I walk by my car in the driveway?
Those look like third-party wheels used as a placeholder and musk said the wiper isn't the final form.
The concept wheels are just plastic covers on top of these wheels!
No door handles will be great when the rescue arrives and try to pull you out in the case of an accident.
Also in cold climates, very pleasant
The wiper would start up due to aerodynamic drag. There’s no lip to hide it in the horizontal so it’s more streamline in the up position
"Looks like a stainless steel refrigerator"
XD
Not accurate when you discussed the Model X and how the door auto-opens. If you have the Key Fob in your pocket, and select the option in settings, the door will 'present' itself to you by opening without touching anything on the Car. Works well, only issue is if you are inside near a window where the car is outside, the door opens as well. As you walk away the door does close though and lock.
You guys need to put me on your show to check your Tesla facts. A lot of things quoted in this episode were wrong. Wheels look different because they’re missing the covers. Tri motor is no longer offered. It will only be quad motor to look inferior to the competition.
Those sharp sheet metal corners will break over time due to vibrations and oscillations.
Okay clicked the like and subscribe button. I didn't know that was how UA-cam gave the play buttons! So cool!
I was thinking the cybertruck would have 3 windshield wipers like the FJ cruiser.
Model X doors are built with revolutionary sensors that stop them from opening and hitting a child or object.
Oh yeah there's also a gage cluster now
maybe they use autopilot cameras for the automated door feature ?
Wasn't the triple motor cancelled in favor of the quad motor?
I do not like it. Mirrors, windshield wiper seems from other cars, nothing to do with this one. Rims...same sensation. Are from another car, not this. I felt like they took these from a truck or from a salvage yard...
PS: If you ask me, all add-ons should be in stainless steel, at least in part. Because is unique.
Incorrect statement for keyless entry of the Model X. You just have to have the key on you, and then when you walk near it then the door will open slightly. You DO NOT have to touch the silver side button to open the door. And then depending on how you are approaching the Model X, if you are approaching from the front and then walk past the door to enter... then the door will open all the way to let you enter the vehicle. Otherwise it will remain in the ajar position and you have to open it wider for you to enter the vehicle.
Really hope they can make the wheels and wiper look a lot better
The "wheels on the concept" are actually just plastic covers, I'm sure they will be on the final truck
Just keeping it real, that's the ugliest car design I've seen in a long time. I'm sure the tech in it is cutting edge but aesthetically it is hideous.
If I could afford that I'd probably customize the exterior
Add some color or something
The X does open the doors automatically without a button press, if you want (we disabled that feature on ours).
Random question what mics are you using?
If you get 1/2 inch of snow that windshield wiper is done. Also does it fold out like a normal car to prevent ice freezing it down?
You could have driven 100k miles in f150 lightning. Cybertruck and ford were announced the same day.
Can't wait for the CYBERTRUCK 💯
No That was so wrong @MKBHD on the Model X it will open the door by the key fob when you walk by. I have videos of mine!!
Also you missed a point that with single windshield wiper to an extent it does create a bit of a dirty blind spot.
Cyber Truck!?! More like Cyber Sedan! lol
These wheels are pretty much the same. The covers are just off.
You'd have to be out of your mind to buy that thing
I had an old Mercedes that had one windshield wiper and it worked fine.
Leagaly the mirrors have to be there. cameras can not replace per DOT.
damn i hate the yoke.
for round movements round things just make more sense^^
I could see the truck popping open the doors, like after they are unlocked, but not actually swinging them open.
But what do you grab to open it if it doesn't have a handle? I would have to open a certain amount to get your hand in to push it open. I'm sure it would be a soft open with tons of sensors to make sure it doesn't launch a kid into orbit.
@@lanceareadbhar I was thinking you could grab the door between the panel gaps. Once the door is popped open, like 1-3 inches, just grab the door on the edges of the door. That's what my kids do a lot of the time. You might do it too without realizing it.
At 6 minutes, what happens if someone's parked so close to your door, that you can't open it all the way, will it stop before hitting another car?
In europe Mercedes has a truck with camera mirrors and its just cursed to see on the road because you expect large mirrors to stick out, but it just has small arms instead
