12:12 No Marshall, you have to live forever. We need to get into the age of cloning and only make clones of Marshall.
You hear someone nearby say "Scott Robertson kinda sucks though," and suddenly you see a thousand angry Marshall clones rise above the horizon in formation.
Then we can all have personal Marshall clones to teach / read to us
I LOVE how Marshall says how the biggest problem with perspective teachers is that they never teach you WHY one-point and two-point perspective is there. It's always just: if you're on a railroad or a street, it's one point, but literally everything else is two-point perspective except when it's not. Thank you!
damn can't wait for marshall's course
Other Ellie, vocal course, you mean?

About to turn 24 and with that comes that mind-frame that I have to have things figured out. Hearing things like Marshall learning perspective at 28 or that in his 40s Karl Kopinski still has insecurities and goals as an artist is so relieving and encouraging. So valuable that your channel has an array of accomplished artists being honest about their process and growth.
I am roughly in the same mindset as you, now being 23. I love music and visual stuff and just started to draw everyday for 2 hours and learn shit, set daily goals and hopefully get into game design. Seeing your comment comforts people like me and really brings things into perspective
@@seeNoEvilhearNoEvil_ Hi. Im 24 and studying every day, most of the time, but its very difficult you know, my goal is to become a game designer too. How are you going after 1 year of this comment? Are you doing art yet?
Why does hearing someone in agony relieve you and encourage you? That's narcissistic af man
Edit, it's like the same vibe as someone saying "I'm glad she has plastic surgery that's making me feel prettier" or "I'm glad he went to prison, that encouraged me to want to do better in life". Why can't you feel encouraged on your own regardless of how much better everyone is?
@@JustAGuySlayingDragons I'm now 27, just to show you how hold this comment was.... but to answer it's because it makes me feel less alone because I felt the same way about my art. It's called "commiseration" and made me feel like I wasn't falling behind. Learn to take people in good faith. I think you wanted to read into my comment some intent that was not there.
@@JustAGuySlayingDragonsthese are people who have OVERCAME the struggle that a lot of artists have gone through. Why is it narcissistic to feel a similarity when someone is going through the same struggle as you? And eventually overcame that same struggle.

I read the book “How to Use Creative Perspective” five months ago from the first word to the last with 120% full attention thanks to Marshall. I don’t know how to put my feelings in words. I was, and still am, so inspired, amazed, mesmerized, and couldn’t wait to start applying the knowledge I got from it. Now I’m revisiting some chapters.
I heard a lot of ppl mentioned that the book is dry, disappoint etc, what do you think of those? And how long do you finish learning the book?
@@GanFloorscope That sounds like people who are used to learning things from one-minute TikTok videos or ten-minute UA-cam videos. Every book is dry, boring, and disappointing to them.
I love Proko and I think he is one of the best out their to teach Anatomy and stuff BUT I wish I had a chance to meet Marshall and even attend his classes so much! He is just so positive and smiling all the time, it makes me wanna learn!
I JUST WANTED TO START LEARNING PERSPECTIVE! You have the best timing ever ;p

What a great metaphor of musicians using a “metronome” until they don’t use it and “forget” it. Thank you Marshall for explaining things in an easily comprehensible way.
I can hardly wait to take the perspective course designed by Marshall and Stan. Wow! It sounds impressive and hard-working course.
I love it when a teacher/mentor like Marshall gets interested in what he's teaching or talking about because it also gets me interested even if the subject is difficult.

I love how Marshall is discussing a very serious concept of 1 point perspective at 14:55 and proko just responds "yea". And it's definitely a concept he understands so that's a great response.

Marshall's explanation of cubes to understand perspective lit up a light in my head. That was a brilliantly simple explanation, and I am very thankful.
Please make this Proko perspective course happen soon…I could really use it 🙏 I’m currently going through Marshall Vandruff’s old lectures and I have to say he’s a wonderful teacher! It’s a real pleasure listening to him. I’ll be more than glad to pay for his new perspective course

Gotta say, I love the vibe, knowledge and humour that you guys bring to your show. I’m a freelance artist and beginning art teacher, and your episodes are currently my favourite thing to listen to while I work away in my little studio. thanks for sharing your knowledge, I’m looking forward to taking some of your courses when I find a chunk of time.
You both are amazing! Proko your videos helped me understand things about drawing that before where very difficult and your episodes with Marshall made me want to be able to draw like a master. Marshall you're a very wise person from another dimension, I like listening to you, even singing in the intros. Thank you both for sharing your knowledge with us. Much respect!!
This has been the most helpful podcast to a beginner artist. Even your rough run down of the types of perspective has been more helpful than any video I've watched.
I watch a number of podcasts daily, but you guys have produced, by far, my favorite. You guys are great together!! Thanks for an awesome show!!
I learned perspective from your 94 course, One thing that really stuck was the lesson on ellipses, it breaks barriers when learning to draw anatomy and figure drawing.
really, how?
I guess I should say Perspective knowledge in general helped, foreshortening comes to mind.
I still always draw foreshortening intuitively and I still don't really see how length can be calculated other than relying on a reference
I'm waiting for a "Marshall's Greatest Hits" compilation. OR... Marshall does voiceover for my GPS. I'm not picky.
I have been teaching the Visual Arts and Music for 44 years, and I am currently teaching an Introduction to Architecture and a Voice & Choral Music and I truly appreciate your practical and respectful approach to History. I have been blessed to have taught 24 years in our district's Gifted and Talented Program and prefer a left-brained analysis of many techniques, critical thinking and productive / creative thinking. It saddens me to hear how many teachers avoid teaching Spatial and Linear Perspective because it is difficult. I believe our goals as teachers come in showing our students what things they need to practice to develop skill thoroughly and quickly. I still get very excited seeing students enjoy success. I appreciate you videos!
David Chelsea's Perspective for the Comic Book Artist is SO GOOD. Could not recommend it more. He explains things in such a fun and engaging way. Great book for beginners.
I occasionally come rewatch this episode just to get hyped about the perspective course

I literally thought about how I wish I could just learn perspective today and I open up UA-cam and this came up no joke THIS IS SAVING MY LIFE! THANK YOU!!
Modern Day James does a pretty great job explaining perspective. Even for someone that has struggled with it for years (such as myself).
I cannot express enough how nice it is to see an almost hour long video that doesn't have 10 ads in it.
Marshall is the GREATEST teacher I’ve encountered. And I am a harsh critic.
Just bought his perceptive lectures from his website. I’ve purchased many courses and the instructors range from very good to okay.
I thought I found the best (that instructor is now my second favourite) and then Marshall comes along. He has been teaching for a long and has acquired great skills along the way, but he was a very good lecturer even in his younger years, so he has natural talent for it.
I’m following him wherever I find him on the net. His charisma and humour also contributes to his magnificent teaching skills and he is absolutely pleasure to watch and learn from. Grateful to Stan for introducing him to me.
PS if you did a Master class course at Masterclass.com or Udemy OR finally did the Perspective Course here on Proko’s channel (please do) I’d pay for it. Hope to see more of you AND thank you for replying to my email immediately. God bless

Hey man how to use prespective in real life
What a lovely soul. This gent was a pleasure to listen to for an hour.
Marshall I belive in you ! You're going to kill it with you're perspective course and I'll be waiting full support !!!!
Marshall sings. Episode title contains the second most important thing about drawing, yet! Really good mood. Right in the feels.
I've been teaching perspective for a few years now and didn't realize until this video how much everyone hates it! I LOVE perspective! I think I love it because it's a technical skill with objectively correct/incorrect execution, and I can easily see where I need to improve. But I guess not everyone sees it that way, lol.
I loved Marshall's metronome metaphor as well as his line "You learn perspective so you can forget it." I also had never heard the term "carried horizon line," but I think I'll be adopting that terminology as well as the exercise where you compare the carried horizon line against your leading Y edge. That's an excellent way to check your work, and I want to give my students as many tools to check their work as they can. In fact, I'm anxiously awaiting Proko's box checking AI!
On that, I'm not sure Marshall's correct when he says that the leading edge will always be at 90˚ to the carried horizon line. In three point perspective, unless the leading edge is in line with our line of sight, the convergence is going to skew it one way or the other.
you two are honestly so funny. i love your intros :'))) Also thanks for teaching me more in a video than my teachers at uni could ever :')
This is a very productive episode.. i like when you get into detail about art techniques, styles, ect. 👍👍👍👍
I love Marshall singing so much, it's always a treat!
About Marshall’s 1994 Perspective lectures : he is one of these teachers you rarely meet in life who have a gift for making difficult subjects appear easy to grasp. He walks his students step by step through increasingly complex topics, which build up upon each other, creating the basis for a deep, almost natural understanding.
More than that, he does it with joy, kindness and generosity.
Marshall and Stan share the same gift for teaching. They form a terrific pair. I can’t wait to buy their upcoming courses.
I enjoy these so much, guys.
I've been meaning to post this for months: Marshall is awesome! :)

I am so impressed with Mr. Vandruff's skill and knowledge. When, or if, Mr. Vandruff's perspective course comes out on Proko, I'm going to jump on that, if I can.
Love your perspective lectures Marshall!
Oh damn, Marshal is love!
I want that Proko perspective course!
One of the most useful eps yet. Thanks very much.
37:10 this is exactly what I did today, and I'm extremely happy that I finally know what Marshall meant. The idea of a "horizon line" was the most confusing of all to a student like me, I thought that I initially understood it and moved on, without realising that it can be anything but horizontal.
I really hope Marshal's perspective course is going to be complete soon. I'm looking to commit a lot of time to perspective sometime in the next few months and the lessons releasing soon would line up perfectly with that.
God Love when Marshall sings
I love Marshall's voice, Interesting Episode... Really gave clarity on my studies using Scott Robertson Book
The first line, "Close your eyes, we're about to begin ...", I heard James Dewar singing with Robin Trower, their song, About to Begin, one of my favorite Trower pieces.
This episode is surely a building 'block' to learning perspective.
I came here to learn perspective and it was wonderful to learn it, then I ended up learning a bit of AI this channel I for sure the best!!
That chalkboard video is no joke, it’s awesome!!!
Really good content, Proko.

I love hearing Marshall’s singing 🎶
I hope the program is almost done! I'm trying hard to learn perspective :)
learning perspective easily takes your art to the next level!
You just dont know it, but you guys have helped me so much and I hope you continue to teach aspiring artists like me.
I’m glad you mentioned Mr. Robertson’s book because there came a point where I was drawing with the techniques laid out in the book and hankered for a more in depth look on the perspective techniques that were used. Like, “Okay I like this multiplication technique, but what’s the science behind it?”
At 39:27 I just about cried. I've seen that mistake a bunch of times because of all the times I've made it. Something about seeing a perspective master do the same was just... Comforting, somehow? Like I'm not _actually_ a spectacular breed of idiot, drawing boxes is just something that requires a series of checks that anyone can miss.
Of course! No one is perfect, not even the masters lol. They’ve just been studying so long and frequent that they can control those mistakes more “often” then not.
Holy shit, no one has ever explained WHY you use the different points. So helpful.
Love the Podcast!
Great stuff, guys. Thanks for the humor.
And the other stuff, of course. :)
been waiting for this, thanks, perpective man¡
Great 'cast! Marshall, I'd love to see you include in your upcoming course the reverse-engineering of perspective that was used in selected published works of art. Please include images from comics, stills from movies and animated movies. I'd also like a section of commentary on various artist's approach to and adaptation of perspective to their work, such as Neal Adams. Also please address using perspective to tell a story. Finally it would be neat to have perspective examples and exercises where perspective is utilized on the same composition at 3 to 5 levels of complexity (e.g. freehand to fully-ruled). Thanks for mentioning the "Framed Perspective" books by Marcos Mateu-Mestre; his book "Framed Ink" is one of my favorites! Another book I like, though I don't love the artist's style, is "Vanishing Point: Perspective for Comics from the Ground Up" by Jason Cheeseman-Meyer. In particular, I liked his sections on curvilinear perspective and drawing people in perspective.
When I took perspective for interior design we made space plans and perspectives of those plans. Grid paper helps too if you need it. I still have my hallway drawing from that class.
So much to consider while drawing
Excellent progeame.
Thank you both
3rd time listening to this podcast series!
This was remarkably insightful.
this is what i have in the background while practicing as a beginner xD
One thing about perspective that Marshall hinted at that I find interesting is that, if you picture a cube in space, there are the edges of the cube that are closer to the viewer and those that are further away. Those in the back are generally smaller (and of course never greater), but the closer the viewer is from the object, the more extreme the difference between those edges.
Also the closer the viewer is, the more you need to use curves to represent those edges.
Love the subject, thank you
Such an awesome app, thats what I need!
Hehe this was fun! A very nice feature of the overlay would be to show the back edges of the cubes. Drawing through the form with x-ray vision.
the way marshall describes what an AI art teacher could be really sounds like my dream. i never know what exactly i do right and wrong, an AI to tell me exactly what i need to work on would be amazing
Well that's just magnificent. Marshall explained in a few sentences some things about perspective it took me weeks (and several books) to find on my own.I eagerly await the Proko course and I'm off to buy Marshall's current offering. What would I like AI to do? An extended version of this would be great. If I think I've exaggerated linear perspective or color to achieve an effect/mood, it would be nice for AI to impose normative lines and colors so I can check my exaggeration.
I have that same Wrightson Frankenstein, what a piece of art.
I Really Love These!!
I check the latest comments on this video once every couple of months to find any new information on Marshall's perspective course. His 1994 perspective course has always been my favourite explanation of perspective. An updated course with Proko's production value, in my opinion, would easily become the definitive guide on perspective for modern artists. As someone who's been self-studying art for the past 3 years and fell into the rabbit-hole of perspective, I eagerly await any news on the course ^^.
Thanks for your continued interest! We're working hard on it full time now and are close to getting to share more details about it soon.
We don't want to announce it before it's fully ready to go this time!
