the sound files were broken when I first got it so I thought it was supposed to have those haunted carnival vibes with occasional muted glitchy UI click sounds
On twitter he's been at pains to stress that it's a numbers-go-up game and that "he prefers strategy games". He probably comes off a little more disdainful than he actually is.
As a long time StS player and an even longer NL Hold'em player, I thought this game was going to be right up my alley. After crushing it on my 3rd run, I didn't really see the point of continuing to play it. It's fine, but not that great.
So pleased to see you playing this! I will gladly devour any Balatro content you produce, as I love you but have totally burned out on StS unfortunately. This is such a treat. Would especially love analyzing specific jokers/strategies and such, but the game is just so deliciously breakable that those could go in any number of directions.
Jorbs is playing Balatro? My dreams have become reality. Also, Square Joker and Green Joker are a really great combo. Getting to upgrade both chips and mult for each hand played is a really good combo. Rare to find that kind of thing that early in the run.
My first Orange stake win was with the same two common jokers lmao, just carried the run on their own. Except I also had a burglar for +3 hands 0 discards. Which allowed me to pump up both the green and the square jokers even more (just played high cards with 3 other trash cards almost every turn like you did lol) I like the game on base difficulty but the higher stakes are really bad. Just Red Stake alone completely ruins early game economy, and then it just gets worse and worse. Orange Stake and up I'm just restarting until I get good tags first ante lol. It's borderline impossible to get through the early game without a free shop or the extra gold on boss kill imo.
Just won my first run didn't run into the wall or violet verdant and my jokers were golden joker, red card, square joker and 2 others I don't remember the names of I got red card up to 99 multiplier cerulean bell final blind
probably. That's what he did with Slay The Spire iirc. I remember him saying that he's only really interested in the highest difficulty in games like this
I was confused by that too but then reading the comments here I was reminded that in the main menu settings of the game, there's a button to simply unlock everything. Which I assume means all stakes, all jokers, all vouchers etc. It just disables your achievements if you select this.
How does he have only 360 thousand on ante 8 with highest difficulty. For me it was up to a million on ante 8 boss, and closer to 350-500 on blinds. Am I crazy?
Okay I gotta know did he just hit the unlock all button or something because to me a lot of the fun of this game is working with what you’re given at the start and discovering all of the new stuff as you progress
So Jorbs bought one thing in the first shop and then easily won the entire run and never had to actually engage with the game’s core mechanic (making poker hands). Game seems well balanced.
This game looked good on the surface but has so many issues. It has some really 'feel bad' mechanics. Early game rng pretty much dictates a run. Economy is super sink or swim too with the hermit, temperance, and 5 cost rerolls (how are you meant to roll early to mitiage bad early rng? It's almost never a correct decision since it destroys your economy). Some boss blinds can completely destroy a strategy and theres not enough time to find solutions. Theres stupid things too like finding jokers that are too expensive to buy in the first shop.
I personally enjoy the permutations you can make, even if they don't reach to infinity land. Fizzling out early because of bad rng is just how it is, it's a game of chance after all. Runs are short enough that you're right back into it
@@SimplyDood sure if that how's you want to play the game. I like trying to aim for winstreaks and playing around bad situations. It just doesn't feel rewarding to do that in balatro like it does in STS.
Farming content. Balatro is the game to be posting in this sphere right now so even tho he clearly doesn't really care for it, he's just going to farm it for views
Why should only positive impressions go on youtube? He's 1) playing the game 2) winning at hard difficulties 3) not having fun. That's just as valuable a perspective as someone saying Balatro's the best game they've ever played.
Jorbs is on Gold stake, yet is shocked about everything like it's the first time playing. Love it.
Balatro without the music is incredibly eerie
the music in this game is such a bop
the sound files were broken when I first got it so I thought it was supposed to have those haunted carnival vibes with occasional muted glitchy UI click sounds
The square joker starts at 16 chips because thats 4 squared
I legit cannot tell if Jorbs likes this game or not.
Jorbs is the true wild card.
On twitter he's been at pains to stress that it's a numbers-go-up game and that "he prefers strategy games". He probably comes off a little more disdainful than he actually is.
He feels it beneath him. I think it's reviewer brain, though I generally trust his judgement.
Casino games are designed to be a fixation that you don't necessarily enjoy but like you black out and it's 9pm and you're down a grand.

Just what I needed. I bought the game recently and I will gladly watch someone competent play it for a change:)
I've only heard "easy game for babies" on Xcom long war, this doesn't feel like long war
so unbelievably hype for jorbs belated
i was hoping for some jorbs early :(
I have travelled back in time from the year 3224 to tell you that your jokers were at the wrong place.

giggling at work because of the "Um, Actually" joke about 16 minutes in.
33:07 Love it when Jorbs thinking about joker order realize the game just became twice as deep
Ugh I've been so excited for this game, and to see jorbs play it
ahhhhhhhhh
Yesss, we need more balatro content
I was just daydreaming about jorbs balatro :)
What's with some of the cards being Blue and yellow?
Helps you distinguish suits when you've been staring at little symbols on the cards for a long time
Just won my first run didn't run into the wall or violet verdant and my jokers were golden joker, red card, square joker and 2 others I don't remember the names of I got red card up to 99 multiplier cerulean bell final blind
I can’t tell if he likes this or not. Did he just unlock everything from the options and is yoloing it?
probably. That's what he did with Slay The Spire iirc. I remember him saying that he's only really interested in the highest difficulty in games like this
Kinda confused on how it seems like he doesn’t fully understand the game despite being on the hardest difficulty
I was confused by that too but then reading the comments here I was reminded that in the main menu settings of the game, there's a button to simply unlock everything. Which I assume means all stakes, all jokers, all vouchers etc. It just disables your achievements if you select this.
Meanwhile I'm still trying to get my first win
I'm so happy

You were probably playing the deck that evens out chips and mult but doubles all antes
37:35 stupid streamer putting flat mult after multipliers reee /s

I was wondering this myself, especially how Jorbs is acting completely unfamiliar with all the cards and yet everything is completely unlocked.
i played three runs without unlocks, found it extremely boring, and then hit unlock all.
@@Jorbs well I’m sad to hear you found it boring, but I appreciate you responding and giving it a shot.
@@Jorbs and here I am deliberately sabotaging my runs to unlock stuff.

Yeah, Jorbs seemed a bit unhappy with that as well. Just from the jokers seen in this video, the variance in how good jokers are seems crazy.
technically one thing at each of 2 early shops, but yeah scaling goes stupid with some jokers
yeah its fun but mostly for trying random jokers, not for deep strategic gameplay
Don't underestimate how good the jokers were that game xMult. Those gave a really big % of the score. They were relatively late to be aquired too.
high rolled 2 jokers in first 2 shops. that can happen

It’s not all about RNG, it’s actually the overwhelming number of “states” that human brain cannot handle that makes it seems “kind of bad”.
Jokers misplaced, unsubbed
Man if youre going to be so negative about this game i dont get the point of you posting it on youtube.
