I heard the perfect description of Geoff the other day. A panther purring curled up inside a cello.
They definitely slayed this song.
All of their vocal ranges are ridiculously. Eli can sing bass an does when Geoff is doing lead. Cesar is still exploring his range but he can get some of those high notes. Layne has sweet voice and a larger range then Geoff (5 octives). Check out True Colors or Bridge Over Troubled Water
Definitely check out Carry On and Warriors. Then you'll need to check out Trapped, Billie Eilish in 3 Minutes; Panic at the Disco in 4 Minutes (part 1 & 2) then Queen in 5 Minutes. Recommend in that order for the storyline.
Thanks for the fun reactions
So. You thought that was high for Geoff? Bwa ha ha ha!! Go for the Little Mermaid Medley. Trust me.
And did we forget to mention that Geoff has a solo channel? He sings 4 and 5 part harmony with himself. You might as well start with his House of the Rising Sun - he's just showing off in that one.
Yeah, really need to check out Sound of Silence and Blackbird
@@dianeschluter9995 Here to second Geoff’s solo version of Sound of Silence and add Ain’t No Sunshine.
After hearing Layne making friggin' JINGLE BELL noises with his mouth (their Christmas Don't Be Late video), the ability to make a 'door slamming sound' and 'water droplets' seemed like a perfectly normal thing to expect him to do.
Yeah, one reactor who is operatically trained (The Charismatic Voice, Elizabeth Zharoff) also noted that, while a number of male singers may end up being able to sing over a fairly wide range, the ability that Geoff shows to switch in a single phrase from high to low or even subharmonic range is indeed really incredibly hard to do. She said something like, "He throws that out like it's nothing and, let me tell you, as a classically trained singer, that is NOT nothing!"
Not just jingle bell noises. Jingle bells that were clearly moving and not in one place.
In their monthly chat in December someone asked Layne about that. He showed us how he did it. Amazingly its not as hard as you think. Well. Layne made it look that way anyway lol.
@@jackyfriedman1963 Can we agree that Layne makes a lot of things look and sound 'simple' and at the same time I think there are very few people in the world who could duplicate what he does, LOL.
@@patriciaschuman4205
That's why I added the last sentence 🤣.
They are all so freaking talented.
Welcome in the Mad-Max/Post-Apo VoicePlay Cinematic Univers (MM-VCU) previous entries include cover of Warrior (imagine dragon) and Dream-On (aerosmith).
Dream On, along with Warriors, is "set" in this same post apocalyptic setting. The location for this one was an abandoned mall.
Actually it was an abandoned department store in the same mall where Layne & Tony have their Patty-cake studio. Voice Play do most of their production work.
I would love to see your reaction to Dream On! ❤
I chuckled a little when you said you might sing along... yes, after the fourth or fifth time, perhaps. But not first. Not seen a single reactor not left speechless first. I love that VP are becoming more confident, and doing styles nobody could imagine.
how Geoff can go from his normal voice to that subharmonic low so quickly? by practicing. he practices by singing a song and randomly replacing like every other word with subharmonics as he sings. this gives him a lot of control over his subharmonic range. the man practices throughout the day every single day. I'm a patron of his, and when we watch live streams from webchats or video shoots, we often hear him practicing his subharmonics without really being aware he does it, lol.
This is a guy who is choosing to put some work into his singing and it shows. He’s extraordinary.
@@lkayh for sure. people always say how lucky artists are for having their talent. as if they were just born with the skill they have spent thousands and thousands of hours perfecting for years on end. there's a LOT of work and dedication behind a good singer's voice.
@@huldradraco it’s the folks who work hard and then make it look easy that blow my mind.
@@huldradraco yes, it is both inborn ability and serious practice! So much admiration for both aspects!
I just wanna tell you that your reactions to Voiceplay always make my day! Thank you for all the kind words towards them and recognizing their amazing talent! Thanks for the smile! 😊
That really means the world to me! I love sharing a mutual love of music with my fans and I just want to spread positivity and happiness for all! ☺
Apparently, Eli was channeling his inner Negan LOL! This is so damn brilliant! Great reaction!
Doing it easy peasy, lemon squeezy!
Geoff can go much higher, lol. And that big drop he did? Check out Geoff’s solo work and find his cover of “Ain’t No Sunshine”. Not only is most of it sung more middle of his range, with background going higher, but there is an absolutely amazing moment where he drops multiple octaves for like one note then bounces right back up. You should also check his solo cover of Man of Constant Sorrow.
Layne has done the water drop/ bubble pop sound quite a few times. Someone else mentioned the Little Mermaid melody for Geoff’s performance, but Layne kills it there too - and does that bloop sound. So consider this a second vote for that, even if Disney songs aren’t usually your jam. (Not mine either, but VP sounds so good.)
Dream On rocks out. Wait for that high note hit in harmony.
Peter Barber recently released his analysis of Geoff's Man of Constant Sorrow, and pointed out a "high G", which I believe would be a G4. It isn't the highest I've heard Geoff hit, but it's really getting up there for a bass singer.
High and Dry Geoff goes super high and super low as well.
And he's totally by himself. No clones.
Its absolutely beautiful.
Rains of Castamere is an amazing one he did in August. From Game of Thrones.
Way Down is a super fun one where he is a janitor (janitors). He gets down to a C1. Same as Elvis Presley's backup singer JD Sumner. Its also when 3 of his clones got their names (Jeff, Jeoph and Goff).
The 4th clone got his name, Daryl in "Ghost Riders In The Sky".
In Man of Constant Sorrow Daryl is the one that walks the tracks.
Took him 80 tries.
If you think that was a high note for Geoff, check out his cover of High and Dry on his solo channel. He performs it alone, with just a piano, and his falsetto in it is beautiful. Of course, E1 cannot be missing from this cover either.
And let’s just say, Anthony has some Hella runs. That boy gives me chills when he does that shit I’ve listen to the song hundreds of times and it gets me every time.
One must remember, Geoff, Tim and Avi are Aliens 👽👽👽
Somewhere around 8:59 you can hear a "bullet casing drop to the floor when Geoff cocks an imaginary handgun 0 Nice reaction
Great reaction.
Geoff was a tenor in high school. Baritone in college and when he worked at Universal Studios Orlando. With age and vocal coaching he deepened his voice.
His talking voice it's low.
At the end of his solo videos he usually does a little speech and shout out to his top tier patreons.
My favorite speech is at the end of Man of Constant Sorrow.
Yes he reminds people not to hang out on railroad tracks because "you are soft and squishy" - well after listening to him, many of us definitely are! 😁
Ah, Geoff....
Yep, every time!
I really enjoyed your reaction- thanks!
Great reaction. I think you’re ready extend your VoicePlay reactions to some other genres. I would suggest We Don’t Talk About Bruno (which Disney liked so much they hired VoicePlay to sing it at a private Disney event) and Hall of the Mountain King (no words, but they included a storyline anyway.)
second we don't talk about bruno. also moana and little mermaid medleys are pretty iconic. Then there's Grinch and all the Nightmare Before Christmas songs... all great
Geoff defiantly reminds me of Swan from the late '70s, movie The Worriers. My two fave Capela groups are VoicePlay and Home Free. They literally broke into an abandoned mall to film this. The BTH video was great because Layne is always the one who says it'll be fine, it'll be fine. Now there is video evidence. OMG.
I hadn't heard this song before VoicePlay covered it, now I can't get enough of it. Love this cover!!!
I was hoping you’d get to this fast! I figured you’d really like it. I, for one, could not imagine them equaling “Valhalla Calling” and yet they did it again! And while you spoke on their voices I would suggest part of what makes them so unique is their arrangements. Layne on Valhalla and Geoff for this one. This is kind of pt3 in their post-apocalyptic group of song. “Warriors” is pt1 and “Dream On” is pt2. And the changes in singers just adds to the overall arc until we get here. As if they keep losing members of the group. They are much more fierce in this one.
I have to say that Anthony really surprised me. From what I had heard of his voice I pigeon-holed him a bit to more ‘pop’ and a higher register. I did not expect him to be able to rock out so well. And while we all knew Eli could, those screams were amazing.
I absolutely love your reactions! As long as you continue to do Voice Play you have a loyal fan and subscriber for life. So glad i found you. Please take care and again, thank you. Your reactions are so much fun!
Dude... never say never! You NEED to check out Home Free, another world class aca group (won the Sing-Off after PTX). They are completely different from PTX and VoicePlay (who I love), and have their own unique style. Each vocalist is amazing, and all are capable of taking the lead. VoicePlay and Home Free are my favorites, mainly because they are so entertaining and well, just fun.
Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. If you have ever played the video game Halo you are in for a treat with Voice Plays cover of the Halo theme song " Halo " The song has no words just music. The composer of the music was amazed & said Voice Plays cover was the best ever. Geoff gives us some of his lowest notes ever. Cesar, the guy with the big hair really shines in this one. Please do a reaction video to Voice Plays cover.
And make sure you continue watching the video after the song ends. Their guest performer, who was actually one of the groups original members, has a very important and heartfelt message at the end. And the friend he was referring to is the guy who does the walkthrough, dropping off the sandwich in their video Boy Bands in 5 Minutes. The 4 people you see off to the side earlier are the guys' wives/husband/girlfriend -- J None was still single at the time.
Fire 🔥 they are PHENOMENAL!
great reaction thanks Eli is a rock god! ❤🏴
I am forever going to be a diehard VoicePlay fan, but I have to admit, having never heard of Anthony before I saw him in this song. I actually gone and looked at his music because I love his voice. So I’m really glad I got introduced to him same thing with Jnone because I hadn’t really listen to him a whole lot, and when he started rapping in valhallas calling the bars that he was throwing down we don’t even wanna count how many times I’ve read around to watch that
Awesome reaction Ty.
Voiceplay is definitely multi talented. One of the reasons I love them so much.
This is an abandoned department store. All the graffiti and vandalism was already there. They had to cover up some of it before filling.
Dream On and Warriors are the other two apocalyptic videos they did.
My 2 favorite live videos they did awhile back before covid when they were touring are "Road Trip" and "Chicken Song". They are hilarious.
Great way to hear their true voices.
You won't recognize Geoff 😂
And "Elvira"!! :-D
@@DavideBaroni
That too but not one I love to listen to like Road Trip and Chicken Song.
Good suggestion though
And around Halloween I think it be interesting to have someone do a double header with Grim Grinning Ghosts: the fun video as the busts and then the one where they were singing live ( I believe backstage ) while they were on tour
@@janetdw
Yes. It was when they got off stage in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. They were exhausted but did it anyway.
Yes. Double of that and their Grim Grinning Ghosts video where they were busts.
For me any time of year is good for Halloween videos 😊
This location was perfect for them: an abandoned department store that was very close to their Pattycake studio.
They all blow me away, but Geoff and Layne OWN this one. I love how Geoff modifies the the baseline throughout the song. He keeps the same beat and the same structure. But he adds modifications and flourishes throughout the song that just add so much. As for Layne... Well, he's just showing off at this point. LOL
I've always loved this song, of course, but I think this is now my favorite version.
As always, I love your reactions. It really does feel like hanging on the couch with a friend, rather than watching a video on UA-cam. ❤
I suspect the setting and props (and maybe those of Warriors and Dream On as well) are meant to evoke a zombie apocalypse type of scenario.
Voiceplay released their new video on their patreon yesterday. It should be on UA-cam soon.
Geoff Castelucci just posted his new video on his patreon Monday. He brought back tthe 4 Dwarves from Far Over The Misty Mountain Cold video. He will premiering it on UA-cam June 9th.
If you think that's high for Geoff you need to check out his solo work.
😊 I was looking forward to this one from you! They really did fantastic on this one! 💜 And yesssss I'd love to see you react to dream on!
They always do a great job singing anything. Especially hearing them live (though I've only seen them w their old lineup) their road trip one is funny to watch cause you can watch them do all the noises.
It's how they arrange it and their commitment to the cover itself, it also might help that they are NOT human
Thank you for a truly great reaction and analysis. You have become one of my favorite reactors. This song is absolutely incredible! The more I hear it the more I like it.
Try checking out some of their short videos too! Hardly anyone reviews those, and they're gems! You could easily do a several on one review.
Welcome to the odysey that is Voiceplay. Only getting started my friend. Try Phantom if the Opera. Little Mermaid medly. Moana. Geoffs solo work Sound of Silence or Blackbird. Better yet Ghost Riders in the Sky. Have fun!
I remember when. White Stripes first came out, i think i just aged myself😂😂😂. Awesome cover as always and loved your reaction
I loved this so much! I could really tell you were into the song, and that made it all the better. Great reaction!
Lanes beatboxing is so damn sexy. Oh my God I love it when he does it he gives me chills.
Nice reaction to another epic VP cover. ❤
This scene reminded me of a post zombie apocalypse mall maybe is my age maybe it’s my love for zombie apocalypse type things but that’s what it reminds me of
Water drop was a little use to has seen in The Little Mermaid Medley, Mona Medley and then one of The ACA Top 10 they did which I love them lots. Thanks to Geoff Villian of the snake in the Jungle Book song as Kid I wanted to punch the snake because I hate it but after seen Geoff singing it I don't want punch I even went back to watch that song all I could hear was Geoff sing it.
If you like classic rock, don't miss Carry On Wayward Son.
Phantom of the Opera is often overlooked, because they did it a really long time ago; but it's quite good.
Layne does the water drop in Moana Medley and can't remember for sure in The Little Mermaid Medley, but know he does a bubbles sound for that one.
Geoff can go so much higher. Have You seen Oogie Bogie song? That one shows his range well
Waterdrop: you get a good look at it in their Moana Meddley and Little Mermaid Meddley
And Bubbles!
Layne makes inhuman noises. Some other beatboxers can do similar. Home Free's dude can sound just like he's playing a jawharp or harmonica.
And you might try giving Home Free a listen. Their cover of Man of Constant Sorrow is nice. they're very country.
Wait, was that CESAR doing that inhaled “YEAH???”” Looks like it in the video but I’m so used to that coming from Layne. Anyway, I’ve been meaning to say I’m glad he got a little more play this time-he sounds fabulous!
You’re going to have to get used to making room for a new favorite every time Voiceplay drops a new one. LOL.
And I’ma going on a rant about Eli’s acting again. Do you have any doubt at the end that he’s fixing to mess somebody up?
Great reaction!! This is fun!
Eli’s acting!! He manages to sound and convey weariness as well as that protective menace. As if he’s tired of all the fighting but knows he must go on.
@@hwyla4416 And there’s that utter confidence that comes from long experience. He knows he CAN “fight ‘em off.” I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the movie The Three Musketeers, but there’s a moment in the movie where John Malkovich’s character and the others are about to fight, and he has that same weary look like he’s tired to death of this but he’s going to get it done (in his case there’s more of a tinge of regret as well, as if he’s tired of seeing his enemies die under his sword). With really excellent actors that kind of thing sticks in a viewer’s mind. I see signs of the same kind of acting ability with Cesar-he could easily have brought the same kind of fierceness to this that he brought to Valhalla calling-we all loved it. But he chose to take a different approach here. He still looks dangerous, but he also looks like he kind of gets off on it. And there’s that moment when he’s (FINALLY-GEEZ) gotten to the top of the escalator where he shows a moment of fear, but runs towards whatever it is he sees.
I’m sure someone else has said so, but Layne makes the funky noise at the beginning by breathing in the noises he makes. By doing this he can also go bass - not as low as Geoff, but pretty skippy.
Ya definitely need to check out home free
I can't beatbox to save my life but I can make the water sound. It's fun. :)
adam from home free is also insane on the beatboxing
4:04 You think that was high for Geoff? You should listen to some stuff where he really stretches his range.
It's the whole arm movement thing he does. Jk.
Please do not use the word "like" so much. Was hard to watch.
