- The first pile of wood is cut, split and finished. The dumpster shows up and we get things cleaned up. The new puppy. Farmhouse cooking.
Wow. If your hernia Doc sees this one he's gonna have kittens. For those of us who purchase our winter firewood pre-split, this is what it takes. Glad I tipped the boys with a heavy hand...
Looking at the tomatoes in the garden reminded me of a story my dad told me. He always had a lot of tomatoes and this one year he told a neighbor to help herself to some tomatoes. He got home from work the next day and she had taken EVERY ripe tomato in his garden. So much for being generous.
Wishing you the best with your surgery and a speedy recovery.
That new puppy makes a nice new addition to the family. Her and Joanie were having a good time together on your last video.
That dumpster is just what you have needed for awhile. Nice work. I would keep the puppy if there is no owner. Cute.
Wow! You did get a lot of work done. It really looks nice. The puppy, that was found, is really cute
Sorry I'm late looks like hard maple that is very dry thanks 4 the video
Thank you Joe for the videos we appreciate the work that goes into making them. I tuned into UA-cam during lockdown in the UK and yours was the first to pop up , I've been hooked ever since 😊
You should keep that puppy, Joe. Joanie and Chunky are getting older. You don't want to become dog-less, and this pup looks like a keeper!
The old dogs teach the young dogs way we always do it.
lol, you need to have a wood splitting and stacking party with all the kids for a couple hours to help put it all away.
Those freeze dried seasoned tomatoes look marvelous! ❤. You should have a bigger wood splitter. I hope that you get to keep the new puppy. Love your videos ! ❤
Joe, would it be possible for you when you tear down the house trailer to take the trailer frame with wheels and use it to stack your firewood on then pull it to the wood burner. maybe even build the floor, 3 walls and a roof and leave the one long side open to pull from? save you from multiple moving of firewood and will help keep it out of the weather. Just a thought i had.
-Bill
I suggested the same idea.
Joe, you are a super busy and a hard worker!!!Take care.
At 28:50 made me laugh hard LOL Colour blind guy at dark picking ripe tomatoes....
You can tell Winter is coming ......Joe broke out the ratty thermal flannel shirt😅
I love that shirt!..
You mean the beloved comfortable, cozy favorite shirt?
That is his work coat. 😄
@@jmar665 the reason I love that shirt is I have one exactly the same...and in the same state....the wife wants to throw it out but it's my go-to comfy warm thing...
Nice to see you working on the guest house again Joe. The clean up is looking great!
Hiya Joe 👋. Love the videos. Take care of yourself. Hope your repair goes well.
Good to hear the deer are back! Lucky you, your mom's baking! Zucchini is so versatile. Love that farm. The freeze-dry tomatoes looked awesome!!!. 👍😎🇨🇦🔥🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
Joe cutting and moving that wood could not be feeling good with your condition. You are one tough dude. Be safe
puppy stays!!
Wash the dog in Dawn soapy tub of water and keep dog in tub for 10 minutes? This will clear off all fleas? Cool tip
Yes. Get it wet and then lather it up with dawn dish soap. Let it stay on for 10 minutes and then rinse everything off. Every flea will be dead. It works flawlessly.
Thanks Joe. Great job! I just admire so much how you share all your hard work with us. I’m getting older and having the issues that age usually brings on so all your jobs are things I’d like to be doing and can’t. I have this homesteader love of the land and I enjoy watching you do all the things that owning property requires. Such a beautiful property you have and care for. Big admirer from Canada’s capital
You are a hard worker. Your woman is a hard worker. Canning woman.😊 youns are the best.God bless.
The guesthouse will be awesome when it gets done. Really a nice build.
Is it locust. That's some hardwood there..🇺🇸🌹❤️
Actually I think the hay around the trees keeps the ground from thawing and refreezing over and over which kills the plant. A vet will check for microchips for free. So I've heard. Shes a cutie but it seems like she was dumped.
Hope you guys have a lot of fun at the Ice Castle festival Joe, yal deserve it. You work to hard. Tyfs God bless you
I can remember cutting wood on my grand patents farm. Everyone would gather on a fall day and cut wood all day long. My favorite part was running the splitter.
It set me back when you talked about your Mom. I lost and miss my Mom since 1997 and it's tough! The time we got a roll off it was always $300. no tires unless they are cut up. I managed to fill 5 of them since living at this house. On the first one there was a 10x8 ft. metal shed that was in bad shape and the thought of taking in down wasn't working for me, so with the fork and bucket attachment it went down quickly. Scooped it up and dumped it in, in less than 20 minutes. I mowed one big pasture today and finish up the rest tomorrow, so I can park the bush hog for the year.
Your pile of wood looks like a log cabin kit from ikea..
Joe, your compound is looking great getting cleaned up.😊
You wore me out just watching you!🤣🤣
Thanks for the video. Enjoyed it. Love the new cute puppy.
Joe , be careful … got to get through that surgery so we can watch your Superman self.
Keep the puppy Joe.She's adorable and a great addition to the family.
That pup reminds me of Old Yeller and would make for a great farm dog! Careful now before you get too attached...probably too late already!
Seeing you throw lumber in the trash made me think [ Oh man that is some good wood. I would have kept that.] Then I laughed and thought how many other guys thought the same thing. Now after reflecting, I would have thrown it out also. Reminds me of moving from Kentucky. I threw out 4 tons of crap I had accumulated over twenty years and never really needed to keep.
Fall ushers in a lot of changes. It also is a blaring neon sign that the cold north winds will be nipping at our heels. It is an annual rite that those who have abundant resources must lock down those resources so winters blast can be tolerated. Getting our wood setup for our furnaces. It also signals good times around the campfire trading hunting stories throughout the years.
Good morning Joe
Like the saying goes Joe "No rest for the wicked"...You must be as wicked as they come!!!...Another great video, thanks for letting us tag along...
When ee had an elm tree to cut and split it had to be cut in square chunks, so wet sap would run out, and wouldnt burn it wad so wet!! Even after it ls
aid a yr it still too wet, wouldn't burn!!
@16:08 ,,, that's locust ! And yes,,,,one of the hardest woods that there is !
Chickens love those bugs. Have a treat bucket ready for them when harvesting potato
Homestead looks good. It has been awhile since I watched you, missed you. Keeper moving
Found away from anything on a rural farm road is very typical in a dumped dog. Lots of that in my area.
The wood looks like Hickory. Very hard and lots of BTU's.
hey joe,you need a big trailer you can pile your wood on, and just pull it over to the Wood Boiler! Always Goodddd to get to that last LOG!
A+ Content Glad you guys rescued the Puppy (!!)
Your place is really looking good. Take care of yourself.
I had the hernia surgery done in February and it was the best thing I ever did
Bet they good. We make a bunch of Zucchini bread along with Orange slice cake every year around holidays.
You can adopt the puppy
Joe the home is really coming along, it would be cool if you had pictures or video of before and after 😊
Your very cute and smart puppy looked to me like she was home!
Can't beat a tuff STIHL once you break one in it becomes your best friend. Love mine always reliable very hard working 💪
So glad you can feed the dear again, I have missed that. Yes been about 4 years since earless, because the last time you were able to feed them she was not around. 😊
totally agree what a lovely puppy she would do well with your other dogs, love beauty. lots going on great to see. thank you
Great video. You can never have too much firewood
The log that you said was really hard looks like locust. Locust is a hardwood, makes firewood that burns hot and long and is rot resistant, makes good fence posts.
Yes I’m pretty sure the potato critters are grubs. They’ll destroy yard turf before you know what happened. I guess potatoes too. Moles love to munch on grubs and that presents a whole other issue.
I agree that you got a lot done, good idea to get things wrapped up before your surgery, although it's hard to picture you taking it easy. The puppy is so cute, if no one claims her keep her, she'll make a nice addition.
I'd keep that pup if I were you! She's a keeper!!
Beautiful new puppy.
Can’t wait for duck camp ..always one of my favourites to watch
I dunno Joe, I think I’d be looking for a way to grapple that wood from the pile at maybe waist height and then cut it up, maybe a skid steer with forks or some sort of grabber on the tractor, you were bent nearly double there sometimes, which can’t be good for your front or your back.
Living Traditions Homestead, had very good recipes for tomotoes and peppers snacks meals for the freeze dryer
I vote to keep the puppy!😊🎉
You finished the pile! 👏 The puppy is a keeper but I think you (Melissa) already knew that 😊
The green patch on the bark makes me think the tree you mentioned is sycamore. Dense wood and burns really hot when dry.
Ahh the old wooden, I remember laughing at her when it broke. Only to be shown a draw full of them. Lol
Also getting ready for winter in West Fargo ND...Can you please ask Melissa to start posting more videos on As The Rooster Crows???...my wife misses her cooking videos. The freeze dry videos would also be great to do.
Joe, just a suggestion.. I have a wood boiler and I don't split my wood, also instead of double handling wood, once I cut it, it goes into the bucket of my tractor and gets dumped right in front of my wood boiler and covered with a tarp. I don't Stack it or split it if it will fit in the boiler, then I'm only handling the wood one time, I'm very busy as well so I try to make it less work for myself.
I thought you might be able to use those wooden pallets?! If nothing else, for stacking your firewood on? You are a hard working man! My back hurts just watching you!
We already have lots of pallets and can get more very easily.
Joe all mothers are the best for sure.
Great video as usual, Joe. Wish I could be as busy as you, but struggling with arthritis badly at the moment. 👍🏻
I have a dr appointment for an MRI on my neck on the 26th. The xray they took when I was in for my hernia and neck shows some serious arthritic degeneration in my neck. If fact, when the dr looked at it he said "wow, that is bad, you need an mri." They will then figure out if I need pain management or surgery.
@@NorthernSeclusion sorry to hear that Joe. I had an MRI on my back a few weeks ago and they found serious arthritic degeneration in my spine, particularly in the lower back. I have a dislodged disc at L4/L5. They are talking about injections initially, to hopefully stop some of the pain down my left side, but surgery sounds a real possibility too.🤦🏻♂️
I am cutting up some ash wood here. It can be extremely hard to cut. Cutting a trunk of a standing tree it cut great with a Stihl saw about 3/4 of the way then the saw got into a bit that wouldnt cut. Smoked the oil on the chain. Made me think the chain was dull so I switched it out with a new one and same thing. Moved about 24 inches along the trunk and tried again. Cut like normal. I have seen liquid water flowing out from a snow pile on a subzero day. snow is a great insulator. I shovel snow onto my rose bushes to minimize cold damage.
Take care of yourself Joe!!!!!!!!!!!
They say a person who cuts wood for heat is warmed twice. That is a lie. You get warm cutting it. Splitting it. Stacking it cleaning up after your done carrying it to the burner and when you burn it. Man I don't envy you cutting all that wood.
Nice garden.
I think your right Joe that it’s 3 years.
Joe, Love all your videos and have been watching for year now. Maybe if you got a pickaroon you could pull the logs off the stack safely by standing back a bit? Just a thought. Out here doing a lot of work bucking, stacking and moving wood my pickaroon is a game changer.
milky spore kills those grubs.. in TX and FL the moles dig all over your yard looking for these grubs. putting the milky spore down eliminates the grub.
You are so hard working.! great jib!
Thank you for sharing.
Great Video. Guess you get a new puppy.
Ooh rah! The logs are done! Yippee!!!
i was wandering about Earless,,earless burgers i reckon
Here’s another zucchini recipe for you and your Mom - Mock Apple Pie. Peel zucchini, cut
seed strip out of middle, then cut into small pieces. Use instead of apples in an apple pie recipe. You seriously cannot tell it’s zucchini! Another way to use excess zucchini!😊
Joe, we need our Pork Steak fix!😂😂😂
Duck Camp is next weekend. We usually have pork steaks on the fire. Stay tuned.
Here in the Southeast we have never heard of a pork steak. Is that a pork chop?
Have been through hernia surgery... the sooner you do it, the better you'll be in terms of recovery. I had both sides done... with mesh... open surgery. Have heard that doing it laparoscopically shortens recovery time, as incisions are smaller, but they won't want you doing any heavy lifting for several months. Painful getting around for a few days... not bad after that. I kept a broomstick close by to help me get up off the bed/couch the first few days... wasn't bad after that.
I was just in talking to the surgeon and they want to do the robotic surgery with the mesh. only 1 to 2 weeks of down time. After two weeks I will have no restrictions.
Love all the videos man
Thanks for video.
That wood might be Yew, it's one of the hardest, if not THE hardest of the softwoods...
You can use that sawdust for something
I remember how the property looked when you and Melissa first bought the farmhouse. What a difference 4 or is it 5 years make.
Joe,I think your sprint animal is a woodchuck.
Good Evening Sir,thank you for all that you do for us and the channel!!!
My question is, now that you can feed the deer again, will you be feeding them between the chicken coop and the front garage? If so, will you put the camera back up too? Love that Beauty is in the videos too. Looking forward to the Land Castle video and Duck hunting video too!! Safe travels Sir!!! And thank you again!!!
I am not sure where we will be feeding them this winter. It all depends on how much snow and where it is plowed vs where I can walk to. I guess that will play out this winter. I do want to run the cameras again. Thank you for the nice comment.
Joe you work hard regardless of the hernia and I pray that you’re ok. Please try to take it easy and God bless! 👍👍👍🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️
Looking forward to duck camp 2023 video
Mind boggles that you can do so much physical labor sporting two hernias! I only had one and could hardly walk!
