- While we have been focusing on political events here at home, there have been many developments on the continent this week.
These include the unfortunate revolts which claimed six lives in Kenya. The revolts were due to a public outpouring of anger over tax increases. Kenya's President William Ruto said the reason for raising taxes is for the country to meet its debt obligation, but the government has since withdrawn the proposed Finance Bill. Also, in the news this week is the death of two SANDF captains have been killed during an attack on a base in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Professor Everisto Benyera from UNISA joins us virtually to cover some of the events taking place on the continent over these couple of days.
