The way he highlights the power of photography for capturing realm moments and emotions was an awesome reminder of why skilled photographers are so important
I think this whole talk speaks to the responsibility that photographers have to represent reality faithfully. There's a lot of reasons and excuses to stick our heads in the sand but when you see an image of an injustice or issue that's happening... it makes it a lot harder to ignore
So blessed to have been taught photography from this amazing professor in college! He was an inspiration then and still continues to be an inspiration! So amazed by everything he has accomplished! 😊
I had the incredible opportunity of being taught by Jim Loring in college. His lessons and stories stay with me today in all avenues of my life. He taught me to keep an open mind and always represent the truth. Glad you now have the ability to speak to a larger audience!
This concept becomes even more important in a time, where AI, filters, and staged photos are everywhere. The importance of telling the truth through Photography becomes even more vital. Thank you for giving me this new perspective! Your photos are gripping.
I know it is tough to see some of these things, but I always wanted to understand the world in which we live - that is one of my motivations for login this work. Thanks for your comment:)
This talk is excellent.. love Jim Loring’s photos probably because they do tell the truth… often uncomfortable truth… always emotionally moving.. and i couldn’t agree more with Jim’s younger self comment… we are all in this together.. we need more photographers like Jim Loring…
Your journey from an 8-year-old dreamer to a photographer with a mission resonates with me. It's a testament to the lasting impact early influences can have.
So glad to hear that - and wish we could all make those important connections to finding our unique path... I would love to hear more about your perspectives...
What a truly incredible talk! From the second you speak about photographing Nelson Mandela and throughout every story here, I was gripped. You have instantly impacted the way I look through the various lenses with which I capture the moments in my world. Thank you. What an enormous gift!
I love this comment - and so glad you picked up on the diverseness, I think we all have an important contribution to make, we are all unique and full of value.
The story of Sisly from Marley is heartbreaking but it's wonderful that your photo became a catalyst for a fundraiser. Also just a really cool example of how images can bring people together for a cause.
The Nelson Mandela quote at the end really encapsulates your message. It's not just about living but the difference we make. Your photos truly embody that philosophy.
Loved your message, Jim! And I enjoyed your storytelling and compelling style. It really drew me in,. Congrats on delivering thoughts on this important reality and opening another possibility for our current mindset, to be present in the moment.
Your dedication to capturing real moments that tell powerful stories is commendable. I think it's really important that we all use our passions to help improve the world.
Totally agree - one agency I worked for was transparent when they uncovered what might be considered an isolated misuse of funds. They immediately published what had happened and made amends - I thought we wold lose supporters, but no - it reinforced the trust of supporters. We all know there are backhanders driving way too many things, but transparency matters. Thanks for your comment!
It's evident you approach photography with a sense of responsibility. Your commitment to not manipulating images raises the bar for ethical storytelling in the age of digital alteration.
In a world saturated with manipulated images, your plea for truth in photography is timely. Hopefully it's just another thing that will correct itself as the pendulum swings back
Your dedication to traditional photography techniques is really cool! The artistry in using film and the way you describe the process adds a whole new layer to the impact of your work, it's really easy to tell how much it all means to you.
I so appreciate all the thoughtfulness you put into every photo and I think that's what really makes each one, so stirring and inspiring for us to take action

This are all really great points and I feel like it's actually something being felt a lot more than you're giving credit for. Lots of stuff on social media now about filter free and unedited photos
I suppose when for so long photography was for people wanting to capture something beautiful, makes sense that we would swing to the other end and need the hard truths from our images.
It's true - but there's a long history of photography being used to confront hard topics, the work of Dorothea Lange and Walker Evans, who I reference in the talk, produced so much great photography - certainly an inspiration for me. Thanks for your comment!
I understand the impact of a single photo, but can a photograph truly capture the whole truth of a situation? It feels like reality might be more nuanced than any image can convey
Greatly honored to have been one of Jim Loring’s photography students. Keep inspiring others to tell the truth with photography!
Thanks Laura - so great to have you go through the photography program... stay inspired:)

Doctored and filtered images bombard us daily. How refreshing it was to listen to this talk and soak in the authentic images.
It's not about perfection; it's about authenticity... Something that could come in handy to remember in all facets of life.

Well done, Jim. I feel lucky to have learned this live and in person!
What a beautiful talk Jim, with an incredible message you have gifted to the world!
With the sheer amount of edited and filtered content we see these days, this was really needed for me. Demand truth in every frame!

Photography as a tool for activism - that's my language!
That is great to hear, and photography can be used at all levels to make important connections.
Transparency is the only way forward!

Thanks so much Keya - I love your work too... we are all fighting for a better life and world, what a precious gift we have all been given!
This are all really great points and I feel like it's actually something being felt a lot more than you're giving credit for. Lots of stuff on social media now about filter free and unedited photos
At least people have gotten better at recognizing what's a real image and what's one thats been edited/shopped or just straight up AI
It's sad now that photographs can be so manipulated as to hide truths when they are meant to do the opposite and show us a truth that words can't
My concern is that people will stop putting their images to film. I think it is the digital part that wrecks the art form
I understand the impact of a single photo, but can a photograph truly capture the whole truth of a situation? It feels like reality might be more nuanced than any image can convey
You are right, but a single photo can be the catalyst for the greater conversation that we need to engage with. Thanks for your comment!
